This is what I call "Putting On A Show". I get excited just watching this PERFORMANCE. Danm I'm glad I came up at this time when he artist was so REAL and origional.
Cholly Atkins was choregrapher for the Pips, who brought him to Motown and he taught dance to The Temps, O'jays, Four Tops, and the Jackson Five among others..
Wasn't Bubba the main choreographer for the group? The Pips had moves like this BEFORE coming to Motowna dn their momentum didn't stop once they left the label, either.
Actually it was a group thang, but Bubba was the head of the entire group. However, they would have Cholly Atkins to clean it up. And like most groups had someone in the group to help with the dances. Overall the group members worked together to achieve their own special GROOVES.
Bubba actually danced the hardest (to Me), William was smooth and Edward was laid back and they all did their thang.
Bubba was my neighbor in the palmer woods , area of livernois and Pembrook, corner house I always thought Gladys was drop dead gorgeous with the the voice to match, Detroits gift to the world
Thank you SO MUCH for posting!!!! Gladys Kkight and The Pips were ALWAYS a class act. I know that they got the name Pip from their uncle's nickname, but, everytime I see then, it is Perfection In Performance!!!! Thanks, once again!!! And keep on groovin'!!!
They started using Perfection In Performance during the early 70's at Buddah Records. They did it with Ben Vereen in 1975 in an act called The Pipocratic Oath, on the summer series "The Gladys Knight & the Pips Show".
Can you believe I missed every one of those shows except for one opening number. I was 10 years old, and started my 1st job, taking out trash, and sweeping offices with my grand dad and had to make that decesion to work instead of watching tv. And to this day, I have not seen 1 show. I hope they put it on dvd soon.
I became a 4th Pip in 73'. A girl named Judy Scruggs was walking out of the local music store singing "Best Thing." I had to have that song and was mezmerized by Gladys' voice. Got all of their pre-73, 74 stuff and have been hooked ever since. And of course, "The Gladys Knight & the Pips Show" was like a personal gift to me. I edit her Wikipedia page a lot and have added a link to the Internet Movie Data Base, IMDb. Check out her filmography on Wikipedia. I added that.
Of course, and thank you, largo3point0, LOVESOMEGLADYS, soul07 and the rest of the 4th Pips out here who continue to hold it down and represent for the EMPRESS!!!!

Love the music. They kept it funky. Usually on all the shows like hollywood palace and ed sullivan they whitewashed the black music ans sped it up.

During this time, there were really only 2 groups that really danced at Motown-
The Temptations and The Pips. Others came along later.
