I think a lot of you JD fans are being a bit too precious.
Barney didn't kill Joy Division, Ian Curtiss's tragic mental illness did.
I sometimes think you guys would only have been happy if the rest of the lads had secured the legacy by throwing themselves on Curtiss's funeral pyre in 1980.
its a shame that the tone of the voice doesnt suit so well, but thats the idea of a cover, still very good in the chorus and instrumentally. They are new order after all, they have the right to play any joy division song :D
I was reluctant to play this in case of disappointment.....I was right. Some songs should just be left alone and this is one. But if you want to really see IC's memory desecrated, check out Pete Murphy's awful rendition. Shame on you Peter, using JD's genius to prop up your demised, flacid career as it meanders into the bargain basket of time.
Great Job. Barney is not Ian but they are the original band members, so they can do it better than anyone else. Great performance, Barney, Hooky and Morris. Who's the other guitarist?
OK, I concede that its unfair to compare anyone with a performer as incomparable as Ian Curtis. New Order were always just the runners-up after Joy Division, and its not their fault. But c'mon, Barney's looking more and more like Roger Taylor from Queen with each passing year...
its not the same without Ian Curtis.. Ian sung with energy.. and his dance with the violently wavey arms..all adds to the effect. bernard just kills this track live.

@kusraback Phil Cunningham. He took over for Gillian in 2001, and now performs with Barney and Stephen Morris in Bad Lieutenant.
