he doesnt even have the story right. they said he chocked on weed. and then when that was proven wrong they claimed he was a druggie and a dealer. that was of course proven wrong too and they were forced to give in a do a autopsy...which they lied about 3 times and NOW this week the cops went on trial...after a year of excuses to not but them on trial.
I am sorry this young man lost his life but his death was not in vein because it prompted change that will hopefully benefit the people in his country.
I don't know you, I know only what you by your comments and by saying " BTW, fuck you Obama. You don't represent the people at all" implies that you are saying Obama is the problem. When there is a Democracy the person in charge has to be able to be balance between conservative and liberal. He was not elected as a liberal democrat. He is just a Democratic , he has some liberal views and some conservative. You have to remember that the U.S. have relations w/ Egypt b/c of the oil its important to
Why do we have to ALWAYS fix the worlds problems!!! Fix your own Problems. The reason why Obama administration said that Mubarak should stay in office until you guys figured out your own mess is because you all didn't have anyone to step up in his place. You all would have ended up like some of the places in the middle east. Anyway, why did it take 30yrs for you all to get this man out of office. should have done it along time ago. Beautiful! This is how you start your own democracy. THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! But if the people allow ANY undemocratic group to take over, if the people give in to threats from any religion or socialistic group, all of this glorious revolt was a waste.
The great people of Egypt: Separation of church and state, freedom of the press, freedom to assemble without fear, freedom for men and women to bear arms, free elections, free market, NO SHARIA LAW. For peace, prosperity, for all children.

I still believe in true democracy.. unfortunately at that point when Obama backed down on his support for the protests, then AIPAC... the Israeli Lobby in Washington stepped in and said wait a sec, if u want to serve another term etc etc etc... I think things are changing not only in Egypt, but even here in the USA
@samsalem11 There is a reason why the founding fathers made sure that the United States is not a true democracy. To paraphrase the constitution, "...so that people are not governed by the tyranny of the masses..."
Nevada is a good example. If it weren't for the electorate college the inner city of Las Vegas would dictate and overpower the voice of a rural rancher in North Eastern Nevada. How fair would that be?
Wow, the internetz promoted freedom, something America has been lacking to apply in the Middle East. In fact America and israel wants to keep dictators in control of the Mid East countries. So much for freedom -_-

2)There are good people and good causes left in this world that's wroth fighting for and worth the effort.
I'm not a religious person at all, but if there is a diety or dieties, these people should get a very special treatment in their afterlife for what they have done and are still doing.
BTW,fuck you Obama. You don't represent the people at all.
@nielsboex The people mainly reffers to those Americans that either put him in office (mainly liberals and democrats) and actual Americans. The problem with Obama at this point in his term is that he has become a conservative democrat and his administration is saying that a dictator should be in charge of a country whose people are trying to establish democracy. He doesn't always paint a bad picture of what we really think but with the current issues, he's abstract and scewed.
@Jarethenator The only reason America is in the situation we are in now is NOT because of President Obama it is because of President Bush's train wreck of an admistration we had for the eight years before Obama became president. Check your facts. If anyone was not in touch with the People it would have been Bush. Shit I don't even think he knew what the hell was going on with his own country. His lies are the reason son many Americans have died in that war. Do some research.

You obviously don't know me if you think I ment Obama was the problem. Bush was one of the worst presidents ever to set foot in the whitehouse and make mouth sounds. He left America in a horrible economic mess. If I had been focusing on that when I wrote my comment then maybe you could have a fuss at me. I was reffering to his conservative positions and actions. He was elected as a liberal democrat and the US is indeed more liberal than conservative. He's not how he should be.
Isn't in weird how Ancient Greece is the only country to have had a perfect democratic system to date? I say we just bring back the monarchy and put an end to this charade.
@Chnamanjx The biggest difference between now and then is that people *think* they're free. At least everyone knew they were someone else's bitch back in those days.
@SkullXII Dude! Ancient Greece a perfect democracy? I mean, come on, women couldn't vote, slaves couldn't vote... Greek democracy was VERY FAR from perfect(i'd prefer our current 'democracy' any day). In ancient Greece the army generals had way too much power. And your solution is bringing back the monarchy? How the hell is that democratic? Besides, I live in a constitutional monarchy, so the king's never been gone, he just doesn't have power. We should just strive for a better democracy.
@demanvanhetstokbrood Bringing back the monarchy wouldn't be democratic at all, but as I've already said, I've lost faith in democracy. We're too stupid as a species to deserve democracy.
And I didn't actually know that about Ancient Greece, so cheers for that... my professor might've skimped out on a few details after all.
Gretchen: "New news that Egyptian protest had largely began through the use of Facebook. So does this mean we should now get rid of Facebook? Or all social media for that matter?!"
They tried to prevent the prophecy of Egypt from happening but it will happen and theres nothing anyone can do to stop it. They will have a feirce ruler in these last days you will see....
This really makes me think of the movie, "The Power Of One." and the message at the end of it.
In south africa and around the world the struggle to gain human dignity and equal rights for all people continues, change can come from the power of many, but only when the many come together, to form that wich is invincible, the power of one.
This man is what a patriot is supposed to be, someone who bleieves in the founding ideals of their country and defends those ideals to the death, not some guntotting idiots who never question the govt, and only care about a dman flag.
The US has always supported dictators -_- it's for their OWN benefit I really hope the people of Egypt over throws that old man hopefully this will inspire Puertoricans to become independant and get rid of the US who has been their opressor since the Spanish American war. COme on Puerto Rico is a Colony that needs freedom Lolitas dreams will live on in her people.
@yankee82090 Um, first off yes we are assholes for doing the dictator thing, but puerto rico loves being part of america, they get massive support since they are apart of the country.
NO they don't. Have you gone to PR? Have you talked to Puerto Ricans that LIVE ON THE ISLAND? THEY WANT TO BE INDEPENDENT 70% of them are Nationalist they BURN US flags on fourth of July for christ sakes! The US uses PR for HUMAN EXPERIMENTATION and they tested nuclear bombs on PR too you think the people like the US ha ha ha please dont make me laugh. I have gone there many times and people hold a lot of grudges and resentment against the US. Just look up the Young Lords. Lolita and others.
@ForgottenMemmory Of course not. Why would the US let its image look bad. I know because every fourth of july in the spanish networks and puerto rican networks like WAPA they show people burning US flags people protesting for independence. The US only shows the wealthy elite rich puerto ricans never the poor working class
These are NOT democratic protests, the protests are spearheaded by the Muslim Brotherhood, a pronounced enemy of Israel, and the Communist Party of Egypt. If the terrorist forces seize egypt, they will use it as a launching post for terrorism against Israel and American allies in the region. Mubarak may not be the most pro-democratic guy, but he is no terrorist, and he is a friend of Israel, America sometimes has to support unsavory people for the greater good, this is one of those moments.
@tehant1liberal The Muslim Brotherhood were not involved in the protests in the first few days. They didn't even issue a statement until the 28th or 29th. Furthermore, the organisation itself doesn't seem to be making any kind bid for power. Get your facts straight dude. Or just keep on watching Fox news...whatever.
@5233484 that's so true look at the polls on so many subjects they are completely at odds with the actions and policy's of our government i wish there were protests here in San Francisco against our governments stance on egypt....Obama and his false hope it's now that he should be campaigning for change
@5233484 the last real president was JFK but he was surrounded by the American military industrial complex and the American Industrial Complex who ultimately set him up for murder... Peace
Same thing happens in America, only difference is Egypt let their guy out American terrorism laws allow for life in prison with no charges ever being laid.
Unfortunately, the American government have betrayed their values that they advocate for and bombed other nations to spread by supporting these dictator regimes knowing that they're oppressing their people. And then we ask "why do they hate us?" What Obama, Biden and Hilary are doing now is brutally selfish. Mubarak and Saudis can imprison legit opposes of the government, torture, rape and execute them without any trail or media coverage whatsoever. Yet, the US insist on calling them "allies".
Mr. Obama, for once in your lousy presidency be the man you promised you would be, I heard your fake speech in Cairo when you said that undemocratic tyrants were on the wrong side of history and you have proved that you are joining them. So do the free people of Egypt a favor and just step aside and shut up. The more you speak the more you shame yourself.
Facebook is not what caused this revolt, this is pure Western propaganda. The Egyptians really needed a Jewish kids social network to learn how to revolt.
Give me a fucking break, 30 years of economic injustice and dictatorship is fuel enough. Lets not forget the weeks of unrest and protest in Tunisia which much of the Muslim world was watching. That if anything was the spark to provoke the Egyptian uprising.
Any nonsense about social media is Western spin, trying to distort reality.
@youngbuck189 I'm not sure if Facebook was the motivator or simply the last straw, but it wouldn't make a difference whether the site was Jewish-owned or not. People have always used tools to turn against its creators. Like, the weapons that the US supplied to Afghanistan.
Now... Ive rarely seen Cenk that mad about the Obama admin... but he's damn right. Another proof of how much that lame duck is a fucking traitor. I supported him so blindly 2yrs ago that It makes me sicks.
Is that all the choice we have? Him or McCain, Palin & co? Fuck that system.
@TitParty In this case, yes. We need pro-US people as leaders in the Middle East. We need our oil. If their people have a democracy they will demand a greater share of the oil profits. We can't have that. The oil belongs to America, and the oil profits belong to American elites. No one else gets any.
@HomleandSecurity are you being sarcastic? because if not your fucked up then again your probably a troll tieren brauchen keinen gott denn gott ist nicht echt
@gottsein234 No, I'm being serious. America needs to boss the world around a bit more. All the oil is ours, and all t he oil profit is ours. Democracy cannot be allowed to stand in the way of our profit.
@HomleandSecurity Fuck their oil, we can grow our own now. Wouldn't it be nice to pick from a barrel of oil that says "Made in the USA"? Refining oil is one thing but MAKING it here, whoah!!
@HomleandSecurity. You live on the second floor of a manssion on the beach on a different continent than your parents and have bodyguards to protect you? Yeah whatever you say little boy Why don't you show us pictures of your "mansssion" and "bodygurards?"
@HomleandSecurity. BTW. I forgot to say that it must be sad to still be living with your parents while bragging about how "rich" you are and being too much of a coward to show your face. If you were half the man you thought you were you'd show your face. But you're like most racists and hide behind your computer and/or KKK hood.
@cne08 If it makes you feel better to say those things, keep saying them. The only way you feel good about yourself is to insult other people anonymously on the Internet. That's pretty sad. Couple that with the fact that you live with your parents and you're too much of a coward to show your face. You also seem to know a lot about what racists do, isn't that curious?
Obama wouldn't know a good thing if it hit him on the head repeatedly. Obama and his administration are complete failures on foreign issues just as the previous many before them were.
Khaled Said's mother traveled to Cairo to find Ghoneim. She thanked him, hugged him, and told him she was very proud of him and everyone there. It was incredibly touching!
Cenk, very well said. We are losing an absolutely picture-perfect opportunity to stand for our founding principals. Unfortunately for modern America, we've got so little backbone in our capital city. What do we even stand for anymore if not the freedom of man? A great man once said, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."-MLK We've got a lot of work to do...
when Ameriaca wants to remove a dictator, they give him a 24 ultimatum, but when the people demand that the dictator leaves, America then wants to keep him forever.
@bluefootedpig maybe it is because both representatives we have to vote for dems or reps are liars in some way, its just having to chose the better of two evils.
Obama lied, what?!?! who would have thought. This is so unlike him. Man, if only we had a president like Bush, who is honest.... oh wait.... Maybe like Clinton... crap. Why do we keep voting for these people?
@psychokillercrab I would agree, I follow egypt all the time. I almost always vote third party. See Egypt basically held an election and voted for "not the current party". They were willing to go against the standard and demand a different system. Until people in the US start voting outside the two parties, maybe for one of the other 3 parties, then we would have our revolution. But the people in power were smart, give them a vote every 4 years, they won't risk that vote on 3rd party.
@bluefootedpig well both parties are the same. And I try to vote for one of the independent candidate instead. But sometimes I feel like it doesn't make a difference
@lorentsenjr To the two parties? there are about 5 parties that run for president, and for lesser offices there is almost always a third party. But like I said, people don't want to "waste" their vote. But if everyone voted for whom they actually wanted, I bet third party would do much better. What really needs to happen is a rating system. Vote 1-10 for EACH canidate. Highest overall average wins (granted enough people voted for them).
What is the program of these protestors? Is it to bring in the IMF and let the free market ravage Egypt. I ain't no fan of dictators, but should the US be messing with Egyptian politics through Facebook and Twitter and West. NGO's? Let us just get out of the Middle East now and stop funding rotten regimes, and I include Israel in this. These movements in Egypt kinda smell bad to me, it is not a movement of the poor, it seems to be a movement of the middle classes, like many other countries.
Cenk when will you start judging Obama on his actions instead of his words? when will you stop believing his bullshit? Let him make good on one promise and my opinion of him will improve, until then, Obama is nothing more than right wing corporate gutter trash

The problem with Obama at this point in his term is that he has become a conservative democrat and his administration is saying that a dictator should be in charge of a country whose people are trying to establish democracy. He doesn't always paint a bad picture of what we really think but with the current issues, he's abstract and scewed.

SkullXII 1 year ago
@SkullXII Dude! Ancient Greece a perfect democracy? I mean, come on, women couldn't vote, slaves couldn't vote... Greek democracy was VERY FAR from perfect(i'd prefer our current 'democracy' any day). In ancient Greece the army generals had way too much power. And your solution is bringing back the monarchy? How the hell is that democratic? Besides, I live in a constitutional monarchy, so the king's never been gone, he just doesn't have power. We should just strive for a better democracy.
demanvanhetstokbrood 1 year ago
@demanvanhetstokbrood Bringing back the monarchy wouldn't be democratic at all, but as I've already said, I've lost faith in democracy. We're too stupid as a species to deserve democracy.
And I didn't actually know that about Ancient Greece, so cheers for that... my professor might've skimped out on a few details after all.

yankee82090 1 year ago
These are NOT democratic protests, the protests are spearheaded by the Muslim Brotherhood, a pronounced enemy of Israel, and the Communist Party of Egypt. If the terrorist forces seize egypt, they will use it as a launching post for terrorism against Israel and American allies in the region. Mubarak may not be the most pro-democratic guy, but he is no terrorist, and he is a friend of Israel, America sometimes has to support unsavory people for the greater good, this is one of those moments.

Any nonsense about social media is Western spin, trying to distort reality.
youngbuck189 1 year ago
@youngbuck189 I'm not sure if Facebook was the motivator or simply the last straw, but it wouldn't make a difference whether the site was Jewish-owned or not. People have always used tools to turn against its creators. Like, the weapons that the US supplied to Afghanistan.

psychokillercrab 1 year ago
@psychokillercrab I would agree, I follow egypt all the time. I almost always vote third party. See Egypt basically held an election and voted for "not the current party". They were willing to go against the standard and demand a different system. Until people in the US start voting outside the two parties, maybe for one of the other 3 parties, then we would have our revolution. But the people in power were smart, give them a vote every 4 years, they won't risk that vote on 3rd party.
