The universe in its cold cold darkness and bright hot stars which drift apart, resounds somewhere in this man's soul. Someone sings outside my window. Is it the wind? Should I go out?
@cosmicrider287 Raak!!
Can't understand why he shuns his early works - their quite brilliant. This was the epitomy of Scott's undoubtable progress. His later works didn't have the melancholic punch attached to them. This is music to cut your throat by - we've all been there.
Scott Walker is a real musician. Everytime he is involved in a production, singing, arranging, writing, he gets so close that you shiver. His latest stuff is really frightening, operatic, but it's music that you can't predict. I love all these old numbers and by God don't they stand the test of time!! They are still amazing.
I think it's just because people are looking for instant gratification, and most songs start off pretty slow. You have to make an investment of time in Scott Walker to get the most out of it. If only we could convince people to give an ENTIRE song a chance.
@Blueveiner Indeed, we used to say that sort of thing about people not sitting through albums but the attention spans keep getting shorter! I swear American television is intentionally rotting brains to keep people unaware and subservient to the capitalist game. Oh well, the mainstream audiences may never suddenly jump on this sort of music en masse but rest assured there are still plenty of people who appreciate music of styles and eras that are out of the spotlight.
signature 50: Scott will not tour nor is it likely that he will perform --but like the Barbican premier in 2008 of Drifting & Tilting it is possible that if enough of us impress upon him what his early works mean to us (he is not personally impressed with these....) it is possible that he might agree to a celebration of selected pieces fr Scott 1 - Scott 4.. this effort would need coordinated organization....
I would like there to be a Facebook / Twitter pressure group of some sort whereby signatures could be collected to try to persuade Scott to tour again with the songs from this time - I'm sure it would attract a lot of interest. These numbers need to be heard by the X-Factor generation.
@signature50 I don't know if that would happen because he has made it well known that he has no intention of hearing his songs again, let alone sing them, after spending so much time in the studio perfecting every tiny detail of the arrangement.
Much as i like Scott Walker's songs, I have to agree with namtap . We have all this great music - let the guy live his life as he wants.

When I hear this beautiful song I think of Van Gogh's Café Terrace on the Place du Forum, anyone else?

How about we just accept that the past is the past and now is now and that Scott should do what he wants?

10 years ago I felt in love with the music of Scott Walker. Scott 1 - 4 is my holy grail (especially Scott4). IN SCOTT I TRUST

Timeless brilliance that follows its own path. The more I listen to Scott Walker the further he takes me.

I was living in Europe in the late 60's and 70's and Scott was HUGE there.

A gem. Heart rending string arrangement. Why aren't these tracks more well known?
captainkundalini1 2 years ago 5
I agree, it's frustrating and puzzling that they remain so obscure... I hope that in some small way I can help bring some attention to them.
Thanks for your comment. :)
