1990 ford ranger 2.3 L same exact problem. ive changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, all spark plugs and wires, both ignition coils, ignition control module, cleaned the iac, cleaned throttle body, changed the tps, changed the egr position sensor, cleaned the egr valve, replaced throttle body gasket, changed battery and cables, changed fuel pressure regulator, used lucas fuel injector cleaner, and seafoam. my truck is still the same someone help!
@LMLFE You can not clean a malfunctioning idle air control valve, it has to be REPLACED. EGR valves also cannot be cleaned if you suspect they are bad, they must be changed.
My truck is doing the same thing, except I notice that the gas peddle feels stuck, sorta, then once I get it started, I can feel the pressure relief from the peddle.
I look in the Ford Forums. One suggestions was the pump rely. Something about a short, and just go up to the relay and jiggle it, wack it, whatever... I'm going to try a fuel filter, and rely and new spark plugs...
gunk in the gas line this happend to my old car i just mickey moused it and bout fuel hose and put it from the tank up to the carb you can test it by un pluging the line after the tank is empty and try to blow on the line and if you cant really fellt the air their is probly something blocking it
hi i think u should check ur plugs. maybe the plus holder might need to be replaces, battery or posably ur altnator,,, But if it wa sme i get the altinator checked first :) hope its helpfull
Ever find out what was wrong with it? Mine is doing something close. Except mine will start then shut off after an few seconds then won't start. I have to wait about an min and try to start again and usually fires right up and stays running. I have replaced plugs/fuel filter/aircontrol valve still does the same thing.
fuel pump relay switch most common reason rangers die after start up or don't start at all 15$part i keep an extra in both my trucks

Fuel pressure regulator, maybe, I know Fords can be real finicky about that.

get some seafoam, run that through it, if that does not help, it is the wiring to your fuel pump or the fuel pump itself

well, your truck is turning over, but its not catching. check your battery and your battery terminals (cables).
