Hello! How different is this from changing the HDD in the 20" version of the same computer? 2.16 Ghz, White iMac intel... I'm trying to figure out if it's to hard to change the drive. Which are the most problematic areas of this "surgery"?
Thank you so much for taking the time to demonstrate this process. I have followed each direction closely but I started the computer up and it worked. I went through the language, and accepting the terms of use, but when I got to the screen where It asked where to install the Operating system the screen did not have an icon for a hard drive. Help???
I did have one disparity in taking apart my system. You cite your system required a T-7 driver to remove the screws from the video cable. I don't know if there's some variance between issues, but in case anyone is going out and buying "just" the drivers they need, my system required a T-6 for this cable fitting.
Also, because the HD fan is practically inaccessible, stick the tube of your aerosol blower down the exit almost to the fins to blow it out.
Thanks, I'm glad I found this video since I have the same iMac you have. Would have been a bit baffled had I followed most of what is out there. (Not that they were not helpful)

Great video! I own a 24" white iMac that I bought two years ago (didn't want the glossy model but my local Mac shop was selling them at a discount)
It doesn't have any problems at the moment but it's reassuring that the drive is relatively easy to replace it, if it'd ever *did* fail.

You rock - the only person I have found who has taken apart the 24" IMac - I have managed to replace my optical and hard drive - thanks
