Notice how sometimes people offer TOO MUCH information about someone or something. It really doesn't matter what she does now, it only matters that she made terrific music in the 50's and 60's, terrific enough that it is so legendary and unattainable by anyone in this or any other era to come. Just enjoy it for what it is. COOL
2007? Over here (usa) we were told she retired from secular music in 2004 to devote more of her time to her "Messianic Ministry Outreach". When it first happened back in 1987, those of us amongst her american fans thought she'd lost her mind. You said she's still performing pop music there in England, thats news to us here in the states considering that throughout her fabulous career she never had a proper "American Tour",
I've an odd confession to make. As a teenager growing up in the United States, I can remember hearing "Can't Break the Habit" on American radio in the 1970's and thinking it was Helen Reddy or Anne Murray. Can the Helen Shapiro fans of the world ever forgive me?
I HAVE forgotten the words and I wrote the song! My original version went out on CBS and this was only the B side of Helen's single. The A side was written by the lthen lead singer of Manfred Mann.
My originally issued version can be found if you search on YouTube for Earl Okin: Stop And You will Become Aware.
Naturally, I still prefer MY version. not only do I get the tune right, but the tempo, slightly slower, works better, I think.
Dick James had me record it before it was sent tout for cover versions. MARION from Germany also did a version on Page One I remember.
