One thing I do believe in is Obama's sincerity in seeking social justice against the overweening interest of big business in our civil and political rights-oriented society. The USA needs to focus on social and economic rights

Ah, good luck with that. Part of the reason I was rooting for McCain is that he doesn't think that the Federal Government has the right to limit gay rights. And by our Constitution, it doesn't. He wanted it to be a state's rights issue, which it should be. 0bama had flat out said he doesn't want gays to marry, but they can have something else. Something that's "Seperate but equal", if you will, even though it's not. I'd sooner go with a candidate that promised what I want, though.

Ah, but from all I have read, Obama once supported gay marriage. That is, until the Pres run. So I have confidence that his true opinion is pro-marriage or at least neutral. I think when the time is right, he'll step up to the plate and do the right thing. I wholeheartedly agree with what you say, though.

Actually, if I recall correctly, he was more open about opposing a real gay marriage and legalizing civil unions (which were already legal in most states), but changed his tune a bit when he saw that neither side was happy with that.
