There were plenty of Jewish Boxers prior to the WW2. Actually after the First World War many Jewish immigrants that settled on the Lower East Side turned to boxing. One of the most famous being Benny Leonard. Leornard and many other Jews trained at Grupp's Gym on 116th street and 8th ave. Then known as New York's boxing headquarters but the owner was a drunken Dutchman that hated jews and lost Leonard and the rest of his fighters to Stillmans gym.

Anotrher thing I want to say. I follow boxing, so I know what I'm talking about. Max BAER was NOT Jewish, although he wore a Star of David on his trunks. His father was Jakob Baur and they were from , I think, Bavaria. They were Lutherans, always had been. In those days to be a "Jewish" or "Irish " fighter brought in the crowds, so many a good German or Italian lad, became "Jewish", or "Irish", mostly "Irish". It was only later that being "Italian" became popular.

Hello. Jackie is my favourite comedian ever since Myron Cohen died. That's why I remember his boxing routine from over 40 years ago, when he was sparring with Ed Sullivan. It's on one of his records....GREAT.
