WE got to study are butts off people. Even when you think you have arrived. You still study your butt off anyway. And most importantly, always be very creative within yourself people. You digeeeeeeee'''''
The genre is called Fusion. It had its peak in the late 70's - early 80's. Later evolved into smooth jazz. But there is still some great fusion out there. You could say its the mix betwen Rock and Jazz.
Scott Ambush, an old friend of mine is the absolute BOMB! "Otis... my man!" (only Scotty will pick up on that) Although my opinion is a bit slanted, he is the best bassist period. He was awesome 25 years ago with "The Method" when he auditioned for Spyro Gyra... he's only gotten better!
Scott is a good friend of mine also. But he wouldn't call himself the best. Scott is Great Player but I suggest to get out a little more. Maybe check out Alex Al
I've never heard of Scott Ambush before. But that was a blistering solo. And here I though Victor Wooten was the only one who could play like that....silly me!!! I used to be a huge fan of Spyro Gyra. I guess I'll have to jump back on the band wagon!!!
Yes, Spyro Gyra are nice guys. I used to work for a concert promoter and one of the gigs was Spyro Gyra. I had a great time. They were a pleasure to work for. They are gentle men as well as truly talented musicians.
Tommy Schumann is a gentle man as well as an incredibly gifted musician. Scott Ambush is a sweetheart who most certainly does build his own basses. I also LOVE to watch Julio play guitar! He's great!!!!
These guys are too talented to be dismissed simply because the weather channel has the good sense to know that this music will keep peole looking at their channel.
It's true, he has his own line of basses, he builds them himself. It's hard to get one ordered though, but I got lucky. It's as smooth to play as polished glass.
I understand that Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and his Tiger Rag, and all that is jazz (since it's some of my favourite music to listen to). But that doesn't mean that jazz hasn't taken a turn. Call it World Jazz.
These are the kinds of musicians that get me to buy recordings and go to concerts. It is a shame that labels don't push this type of music in the mainstream a more.

Man, I'd forgotten why I love this band so much! I mean, I fell out for awhile, but now I'm back! Good night! Each of these guys could easily make it on their own, but we all benefit from them sticking together. This kicks!

A song written by Tom Schuman. Beckenstein and Schuman are a great duo. Other great players come and go but they ARE Spyro Gyra.
