  • Nice looking strat

  • wow i wish i had this guitar, i think the fender custom shop has done a great job on it!!!!......and what is with all this comments about ppl talkin you a dumb ass for payin 5G for this guitar it a custom made by hand guitar, and dont get on other ppl cause your broke ass cant affort it!! just get your lazy ass up and make more money!!! fuckin bums!

  • OMG!!! real DG strat *_*

  • I love the bit at 4:26secs where he opens the flap inside the case right when the music kicks in again. It's intense.

  • this isnt a 100% relic cause on daves black strat the pickup cavities are shielded with copper tape for a perfect seel to help with the single coil pickup buzz.

  • nice geetar libertyfalls, congratulations ona awesome sounding piece of history!

i dont know how much they run for,but i am looking to buy the HENDRIX WOODSTOCK STRAT.i am amazed at how much they want for the axe, because they have gone up in price but then again,so has EVERYTHING goine up in price!!

if you want to buy american made, get ready to pay out your arses! but you get what you pay for! good luck bro!

  • @gibsongold1970 My website sells Hendrix woodstock tribute strats. We build em in house and relic them to be exactly how they REALLY are. You can order it right hand reverse and play it upside down even f youre a righty or we can build you a regular right handed one. We just started selling them. go to

    custom-relics

send me an email or something.

  • Wear and tear must be earned!! not bought - your musician friends must be laughing their asses off at you behind your back, i know I would. lol

  • @Vortigon Youre a fucking idiot. You obviously missed the point entirely. The point isnt to wear your own guitar in. If it was this wouldnt be for sale. It is to have a replica of an existing guitar. A replica. A replica. A replica. A replica. A replica... Its a fucking replica. Maybe if you were worth a shit someone would replicate your piece of crap guitar.

  • What a mug! Only an idiot would pay that much money for something 'designed' to look like it's been played for years by some fucker else. Get a life and wear your own guitar in.

  • Comment removed

  • @intherageoflove nope.

  • @libertyfalls Sorry, and for my writing mistake. So those crashing bores are painting effects? You must be a huge fan of David.Anyway congratulations man.

I have a black Squire with white pickward and I wanted to replace it for another new and black, but mi Strat model is very unusual and standard pickward doesn't match with the body.

  • you'll never remember the sound of David that comes from his fingers

    anyway congratulations for purchase

  • you payed too much for two pieces of wood and some steel.

  • @bordn21 You paid too much for a hunk of wires and metal.

  • @libertyfalls im sorry man... i hope you can tell im jealous when I shouldn't be. Thats a bad guitar. I think the case is outstanding (ha right "the case"?!). But seriously im in the process of modding my "black" strat to somewhere close to this... of course that means I have to learn to play better too! i didnt mean any harshness sometimes i find comments funny when they r totally from smart asses! no hard feelings?

  • @bordn21 the words of a poor person

  • LOL! perfect for people who haven't learned how to manage their money yet. Or maybe it bestows Gilmour-like skill levels upon the player. Hahaha

  • play the damm thing!!!

  • what color is the fender logo on the neck? is it yellow, greenish or grey.

  • @AASKICKBUTT Its gold to be exact. I just looked.

  • I loooooooove this guitar. But I have to admit that I will feel very bad to play it. Is a guitar without spirit. If u give me gilmour's guitar... that's another story. Know what I mean? My Squire has more credit than a replica....

  • @nevovi I agree with you somewhat. But to say your squier has more credit is a little out there. Since fender can sell thousands of something there is only one of they did the next best thing. There is no guitar closer on the planet. That definitely includes your squier.

  • @libertyfalls Can't argue with that. A fender is a fender. I just have something that can't dig with the replicas.

  • who would spend this kind of money for a guitar that looks like its been beat to shit????

  • @bearboneskentuck If you have to ask that question in the first place you will never understand...

  • @libertyfalls ....oh come on', this trend of relic guitars, beaten to shit like "bearboneskentuck" said is ridiculous, absolutely RI-DI-CU-LOUS, how can you think one second that because your guitar looks old -artificially- it will give it more personality or character or whatever.... That is just 100% retarded ?

I LOVE Fender, I have 3 of them, including custom shop and reissue 57 (NOS :-) but they are ALL overpriced.... and you, you paid 1000$ more than what it's worth just for the relic...

  • @F3FisGoodforYou - As Ive said before... If you ask a ferarri owner why he bought a 300,000 dollar sports car that goes 200mph when he only commutes to work 20 minutes a day and the speed limit is only 65mph... If you have to ask in the first place you will never understand. Its not your fault. You just dont get it. Insulting people wont make you get it any quicker either. :-)

  • @libertyfalls .... No comparison... Ferrari is like buying a Luthier guitar for 6000$ when you can barely play, I totally get that, it's just the love of beautiful things... buying beatup guitars is like buying a new Ferrari with factory made dings and dirty to look like a true race car.... it's just fake... Get a used Strat with REAL beatup from real players, that I would TOTALLY get it, it has funk and soul in it !!

Sorry, I apologize, I was rough in my comment, don't take that personally.

  • @F3FisGoodforYou You obviously dont get it either. If you hate relics so much why did you click on this video to begin with?

  • i'm not a big fan of fender guitars, but this is a dream guitar. I´ll change mi girl for one...

  • omg its beautiful!!!!

  • How much did u pay for it and were did u buy it ;D

  • @CoDsick I preordered one of the first 500 that came with more goodies. I got it for $5200 all said and done at my local Guitar Center.

  • @libertyfalls aha ty very much ;D

  • cool guitar :-)

  • take good care of it, you don't want a scratch on that beauty hahah :P

  • Heaven is right in front of my eyes

  • That there's a right beauty.

  • The most beautiful thing in this world!

  • Hey, how do you change the strings to this guitar? How do these tuners work? Thanks!

  • Standard string change. and tuners. nothing special. no locking tuners or locking tremolo or anything. standard fender tremolo and fender tuners.

  • ohhh just beautiful

  • Holy Shit... they make gilmour replica strings now? why was i not informed of this? And where can i get some?

  • I would do anything for that guitar!!! Including making a deal with the devil ( or my dad... its not much different) or castatin myself with a cheese grater, You are so lucky!!! Dam my squier, why cant it be a DG replica...

  • you do know all they use to relic the guitar is sanders, chizels and hammers etc, youve paid nearly double for a shop worker to beat up a guitar. DICK.

  • Don't listen to this tool! Regardless of what they use to relic the guitar, it is, and always be more valuable than the NOS. I can't believe that they replicated the patch hole from the XLR input and the block wood repair from the Kahler tremolo. I am jealous just like this guy, but i will admit it.

  • i did it with turpentine an acetone so i dont damage the wood or have to beat my guitar

  • You're an absolute dullard.

  • blame my bender friend jack for this gay comment, im not even into guitars :) soz guys

  • how much did you get that for!?

  • I preordered one of the first 500 that came with more goodies. I got it for $5200 all said and done.

  • what the hell man, they sent you an already used strat! i would call them and ask for a brand new one...

lol just kidding i'm not that stupid xD

congratulations on the guitar, looks awesome.

  • iv'e got one of the first 500 in the uk or in the world, im not sure, well its my dads, but i play it more than he even looks at it, and its definatly the first 500 because its got a signed book by phil taylor and a certificate, allsorts, and i tell you, this guitar is fucking beautiful, it can play metal good for gods sake, awesome guitar, but very costly, i would never sell that thing, amazing, i love it.

  • Did you pay for it? Than it ain't yours.

Also. Playing metal on that guitar is pretty stupid, in my opinion. It's not meant for that.

  • imo i dont care, why did you have to be like that?

  • Hey congratulations buddy, Guitar looks fab.. I paid a small fortune for a Gretsch Brian Setzer 6120 tribute only 59 in world and just to have it and admire it & all the dents scratches etc, I totally understand you buying it. A great investment too, and one you can really enjoy yourself. So you enjoy buddy, ive always said if youve earned the money, then you earn the right to have such things. Enjoy, kindest regards

    Carl ( UK)

  • It´s so stupid to be paying that lot of money for a guitar with a few symbolic issues, best to buy some crappy hardware and just tune it up, I did so with my eagle and I have a really nice performance, and cheap and above of all, MINe.

  • I can assure you without any prior knowledge of who you are or your playing ability I can 100% guarantee that you are a horrible guitar player. Your comment is like asking someone that drives a Dodge Viper why he wants a car that fast when the speed limit is only 65. If you make those stupid statements you will never understand...

  • Did you get the Phil Taylor autographed book?

  • Yep. You get a good shot of his signature at 5:12.

  • You've got good taste bro!!

  • Was it worth the money?

  • As much as a pink floyd freak as I am, yes it was. But for a regular guitar player probably not.

  • Ah cool, can you really tell that it's a top end model? I'm asking because I'm tempted to get one also...

  • You really can... the wood is top choice (the grain on the neck is perfect) and the intonation and action is 100% perfect. I know you can set that stuff yourself, but somehow its more perfect than perfect if that makes any sense. It has tiny fret wire. thats the only thing i would change if I could. (I know I could change it but I want to keep original parts)

  • I'm a fan of the slightly thicker fret wire myself...but yeah I know what you mean when it's set prefectly! Congrats by the way looks fantastic

  • AWESOME!!! I Envy You!

  • take it back its fuckin chipped

  • @diveplane ,

Don't take it back, I'll save you the shipping cost and pick it up myself for half price ofcourse :)

    Awesome guitar man , congrats.

  • congratulations on this lovely guitar m8. My friend has one, except the NOS version - plays - LIKE A DREAM. Ive seen the relic one at my local music store, and it was gone the next week :(. My word, it was a fine looking guitar though. I, personally would Gilmourize an EJ strat - simply cos I like the feel of that massive neck, easier to play imho :)

That doesnt mean I wouldnt want a DG relic though - hehe :p

  • One more thing...scratches and wear should be earned not deliberately applied.

  • You are obviously missing the point of why they made this guitar in the first place....

  • The point is Fender wanted to make an exact replica of David Gilmour's guitar in tribute to the man and to his iconic Black Strat, but more importantly wanted to capitalize on the opportunity. Even Mr. Gilmour said it himself that he resisted the idea for years when asked by Fender to make a signature guitar under his name. He built his Black Strat himself, modified it over the years, along with the help of his guitar tech, Phil Taylor. If there's any other point than that, then please do tell.

  • you are right this guitar doesnt come with these scratches

  • This new 'Relic' model DOES come with scratches, and so do the 'Road Worn' series Fender Strats and Teles to imitate the look and feel of vintage guitars. I think it's phony, but it's to get as close to a vintage guitar without paying a fortune for it...in the tens of thousands of dollars which is ridiculous too. The new 'NOS' Black Strat DOES NOT come with scratches. It's suppose to look brand new, and that is why I made that comment, a suggestion to build your own and still save over $1,500.

  • Build your own Gilmour Strat...I did! A brand new American Standard Strat + exact same pickups + same pickguard w/"magic switch + shortened tremolo bar + labor to install everything = $1,420.00 ; It's still half the price of the NOS model. It looks and sounds the same as the NOS model without the Custom Shop "sticky neck" feel to it. It was the best thing I did! Look on Ebay for these parts.

  • What are exactly the pickups , pick guard w/ magic switch you bought , cause i cant find them and i want to build one as well , once im not so much into spending 4 k in a guitar , even though i would love to have one .

  • the neck is a fat 50's, the middle is a 60's and the bridge is a duncal ssl-5. All custom wound. Klein pickups puts out a black strat gilmour set. Havent heard em but klein pickups are fantastic. CHeck ebay for the gilmour pickguards with the built in switch. youll have to dig for em but theyre there.

  • hey you should of opened it up let us see what the routing and the wiring is like

have you actually checked to see if the body is stamped ? ive heard lots of fakes about

  • iam touching my self!!!!!!!!!

  • anybody want to pay 5 grand for my squire ?

  • Take a breath, take a deep breath now

  • congrats!

    Nice axe :-)

  • Hmm. It costs $5k for his guitar...how much would it run me to buy Dave Gilmour?

  • cant see much point in all these signature series, just another way to make more money out of guitarists, why not just buy a good U.S strat and sling it about a bit, thats what David did.

  • I see your point. But some people love his guitar and have done so for decades. Now there is an opportunity to get the closest thing to it.

  • Didn't Gilmour play a red strat for a while like Marvins? I love the Guitar you got but for me a guitar should develop its own character and identity, not what someone else in Fender thinks it should look like 30 years from now.

  • Gilmour played that red guitar in the late 80s and 90s. He used the black strat from 1970 til 1985. Then brought it back out at live 8 and has used it since. Every ding scratch and wear mark is exactly what is on his guitar. there was zero guesswork.

  • Probably not, but in my opinion a new guitar should develop its own original dings and wear marks as it ages and be a bit unique rather than a carbon copy (albeit a very well made one!) Didn't entirely agree with Fender on this with NOS and Relic guitars, New should look new in my book. How many wear marks and dings were on the original when Gilmour bought his?

  • @richard2008michelle Yea he also fucked with it so much. All the technical shit. Thats the whole point of the guitar. So it has the same feel and plays the same. Its the whole point. Its for people who really appreciate it all. All the marks, everything. The marks that david made.

  • The main thing is the sound. Can you make the guitar sound like Gilmour's?

  • I have several videos on my profile page of me playing Floyd stuff. With that guitar and some of his pedals it sounds perfect!

  • Cool beans, it really wasn't a challenge though, I was trying to add to the conversation... you know everyone is worried about how it looks, which is important to an extent, but what really counts, at least to me, is the sound it produces on the recording.

I will definitely check out your stuff. I'm all jazzed about Strats right now - I just picked one up myself....

    Rock on Garth!

  • i can see why people would want these. like the EVH strat and the gilmour. because you are getting something that looks exactly like your hero's guitar. but like the dudes i think the relics are insanity.

  • agreed..... like buying a porsche with chips n dents just cos someone famous has a porsche with chips n dints. BANANAS. Make your own mark on the physical stuff you want to own, I'd sacrifice a toe for a gilmour Nos though :-) so I am as mad as the relic crowd. We're all just ANIMALS HA HA CHARADE YOU ARE..

  • I really think these "pre worn" guitars look cheesy as hell.

  • why?

  • to each his own. I personally don't own any relics but would love to. Gotta love that broken in look.

  • the artist series relics look awesome but the new "road-worn" series look stupid

  • im with Ginnas on this one. Relics are stupid. Paying EXTRA money to make it look like its something its not. And to buy a replica of someone elses guitar is even worse. Buy a guitar and then MAKE IT your own. Fender is laughing all the way to the bank w/ relics. Theyre able to take their old dinged and dented bodies/neck that would normally be unusable, then beat em up more and make you pay MORE MONEY for it. Its INSANE.

  • I depends dude. Bought a used relic (not artist series just a 60ties olympic blonde from 2000). Some relics its easy to see, this one has only one"scratch" that looks slightly fake. Anyway I will play a guitar of any description as long as it plays and sounds great and this one is the best I've ever owned - or actually even had my hands played. It really is beyond regular standard or deluxe strats. hail to custom shop

  • Been playing it for a week straight now (and I mean straight :-) . I can tell you, I've never played a better strat in my life and i've played a few. Can't wait till I can try this little wonder on stage.

  • Isnt it a wonder of the guitar world? Ill tell ya what... look at my profile page and my two latest videos I added are me playing comfortably numb and in the flesh at a huge club in central illinois and its a bizarre feeling because I feel like gilmour himself when Im on stage with it. I expect to turn to my left and see roger waters with his crossed hammers trench coat on. Its a beautiful thing.

  • that's one thing of beauty....

  • Het awsome guitar i only wish i could buy one. Anyways could you tell me what other bits you got in the case i couldnt quite make them out, thanks

  • Thanks!!! Besides the guitar, live in gdansk dvd, and black strat book, manual and strings I have a fender custom shop sticker, extra tremolo springs, polishing cloth, david gilmour pick, evidence audio melody guitar cable, guitar case keys, and certificate of authenticity.

  • I may not have the guitar, but I HAVE the revised hardback second edition of the book AND the Five Disc Version of Live in Gdansk. I don't have a good argument do I?

  • Just received mine woohoo. As expected close to godliness. Plays and sounds great and worth every Euro. I'm having a hard time putting it down and can't stop playing it if even for a few minutes. Even the case makes me want to take sleeping bag and crawl up in it haha. This is the stuff dreams are made of. At least mine were for the last 2 weeks :-) I think my other guitars may see me a bit less for the next couple of years :-)

  • Congratulations!!!! What an amazing instrument it is... I have four electric guitars including this one and ever since I got this in October Ive never played any of my other ones.

  • If you can't appreciate this guitar, you're nuts. Yeah it's a lot of money but trust me it's worth every penny. Don't talk about getting suckered. No guitar is worth the sum you have to pay for it. In 10 years time this guitar will have doubled in value (not important to me though) whereas your homemade welfare guitars will still be homemade welfare guitars.

I'm receiving mine next week. Finally! Can't wait.

Shame it doesn't come with the brown, cross strap though. Would've been nice!

  • Once that guitar case opens for the first time your heart will skip a beat... its like looking at Jesus himself...

  • make yer own gilmour for 1 grand

  • (roughly)

hand selected alder relic body $900

relic neck from an 1983 54 ri $500

    relic hardware $400

custom wound pickups from fender $600

custom wiring and pickup switch $400

    master luthier's craftsmanship $?

you are obviously content playing your shitty $300 guitar that your mom bought you. Ive been playing for my entire life and I got my degree in music. Ive owned guitars ranging from $300 to $1000 and this is worth every penny of what I payed for it. You simply dont appreciate quality.

  • yeah ok . Fender strat american made 2000 deluxe plus '57 reiusseu maple neck i bought off ebay.

1000 grand total dollars. Immaculate condition without scratches.

second hand. It's a masterpiece and I don't have a degree in music. Face it man, you're just another brick in the wall.

  • fender deluxe vs gilmour relic.... give me a break dude. If you knew that much about guitars in the first place you wouldn't have purchased a deluxe. Ash bodies and noiseless pickups sound like dog shit together.

  • face it man.....u got suckered

  • Yeah ok

  • or it would be cool if Fender didn't mark up a guitar to $5000 that was worth way less than what they are giving you. That would be cool!

Ernie Ball for example makes great guitars that are worth more than they sell them for. I think if Fender were to be less greedy they could make a great guitar for less than 5 grand

  • You obviously dont know what the hell you are talking about. A single human being hand selects and creates each one. Over 2 weeks is put into this guitar. Much better quality than the assembly line ernie balls. I like them dont get me wrong. But this is a special guitar. You obviously dont get it so Ill stop trying to explain it.

  • why doesn't it come with a plate to cover up the springs?

  • Because David Gilmour's guitar does not have the plate on it. Being a relic strat it is exactly like the one he owns all the way down to the 2 paint jobs and the imperfections.

  • Cause Gilmour's strat hasn't got one either.

  • too bad gilmour fucked up jimi's strap by putting the white laces... and if the strap was sold, where's jimi's black strat?

  • hahahaha nevermind i found it!

  • Strange thing is that the second selector switch is nowhere to be seen on any of these "replicas" or signature series guitars. Please tell me if the whammy bar is shortened like the one gilmour has?

  • The second selector switch is in plain sight the majority of the movie. You just dont know what you're looking for. Its a tiny silver toggle in between the volume knob, middle tone knob and the pickup selector. The tremolo bar is shortened like Gilmour's. It is a replica you know...

  • reply with a time in the video where it is in plain sight, I just cant find it

  • its about half an inch away from the volume knob. at 1:05 you see a crome thing sticking out, thats the switch.

  • What is the switch for?

  • it enables the use of the neck and the bridge pickup to work with the 5-way selector switch in the bridge position and in the bridge/middle position enables all the pickups to work. i have the switch on my guitar, check out my video "blues in hi c minor"

  • would you buy a red 1957 custom strat with emgs if fender produces one?

  • if it was a gilmour signature... probably. It would cost a lot less than the black strat though.

  • wouldnt that be sick

  • It would be cool. Im not a big EMG fan though. That and I personally never thought the red strat fit him that well. I think it would be cool if fender came out with his white #1 1954 strat! THat would be sick.

  • yeah, it would.

  • I can't play a lick, but I still want one.

  • Whats the name of the song in the backround

  • Its "take a breath" from Gilmour's On an Island CD.

  • Thanks alot man! btw Nice guitar id love to have one.

  • ill give you my address to send that to :)

    You can keep the strap

Have fun with that thing PLEASE!

  • Geeez, I'm so jealous, the closest thing to a legend.

Enjoy it as much as you can, man!!!

  • i think the video is incomplete... am i right?

  • is this actually davids guitar!

  • Ha ha... I wish! But its the closest thing to his guitar on the planet!

  • Its All!!!!

But in my brasil, i don't buy one fender standard, imagine one black strato.. ;´(

    i love pink...

and i play with pink tendence

    so

    It all!

  • men, wish I had that guitar

  • trash, i want hear the sound of this piece of shit..

  • you want to hear the sound? Well I guess if gilmour's pedal rig isnt good enough for you the guitar straight into the amp wont be either. Jackass.

  • the song is fucken shit.

  • it doesn't have the extra pickup selector switch that David added so he could play out of the neck and bridge pickup at the same time.

  • Yes it does... Look at 0:40 on the video. In between the volume control and the middle tone knob and below the pickup selector is the selector you claim isnt there. Its small and probably looks like a screw or something in this crappy video. I need an HD video camera!!!

  • cool

  • nice sound.

  • I played it in GC last week along with the SRV Lenny Replica and honestly, I was impressed. it played just as well as Lenny but had the extra parallel switch, which was cool. love the case, also!

  • But there isn't the 'David Gilmour' signature on the guitar?

  • Nope. None of them come with the signature on the guitar. Custom shop wanted it so exact they didnt want the signature on it. If someone is going to pay $5000 for an exact replica a signature decal on the headstock would void the "exactness" of it.

  • This guitar is a fucking dream!

  • This video gives me the chills. Truly awesome.

  • it's beautiful... i think i'm gonna cry...

  • I agree... when I opened the guitar case for the first time I about came... lol!

  • no no no no no not a david gilmour one just like the 400 dollar ones

  • Lol... I was gonna say... Best Christmas ever!

  • ahhhhh bc i was gonna say u say its perfrect but all the dam scratches id be so pissed. thank you. i think im getting a relic for christmas.

  • A David Gilmour relic? that's a nice $5000 Christmas present!

  • is it all scratched up or did it come like that?

  • It came like that. Its an exact replica of Gilmour's guitar down to every scratch, ding, and wear mark.

  • its a relic they come like that.

  • i prefer gilmours white strat with the 01 plate maybe that one will be next from fender

  • I adore that white guitar. Too bad he rarely plays it. I'm glad they went with this guitar though. He wrote two of the best selling albums of all time on this one. I was half tempted to make a replica of this myself by piecing it together part by part. I was saving up money for the build when they announced they were coming out with it.

  • SEXY!!!

  • RANDOM QUESTION:: Does one side of the pick say "Fender Custom Shop" and the other side say "David Gilmour"???

  • yep.

  • now all you need are the strings he uses, GHS boomers and his amp brand of choice(that im not sure of) and your all set. Nice guitar man. I envy you.

  • I already use his GHS signature string set. He uses an all purpose Hiwatt DR-103 and WEM cabinets... The DR-103 is a 100W all tube head and costs well over $2000 and the WEM cabinets are almost as much if you can even find them... I will have them one day but for now I'm content with my little fender combo. Thanks for the comment!

  • id just get a new one and wear it down myself

  • not that easy...

  • i had the honor of playing one of these at Guitar Center today... i was sitting there, playing "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on a normal Strat, and the manager walked up to me, with the Relic in his hands, and said "here, try playing it on this." incredible guitar. i would love to own one
