  • Did the rubinoos made this song or was it some other artist?

  • @alexandra royce - COOL...re : Royse Ader (1975–1980) - Bass, vocals

  • alexadnra royse, tell me more re your dad is bassist, danny bloom, reporter in Taiwan, class of 1971, email me at danbloom at gmail

  • Hey Nicademus666! I saw that Costello Ripoff Show too! The Rubinoos were astounding ("Please Please Me'!) and shamed Elvis. He cheaped us out, no audience contact and when I left I slugged the dude who tried to sell me his poster as we walked thru the windy exit zone. He owes me a free show, but I doubt he'll ever pay up!!

  • Love these guys and play them on my show whenever I can. I was turned onto them when I was 12 by a friend of my uncles that forced me to buy their albums, along with Earthquake. He wasn't wrong, just a great band.

  • I was at their show with Elvis Costello. Berkeley Community Theater... a high school auditorium. 1978 The Rubinoos played much longer than Elvis and the Attracttions... for some lame reason, they left the stage after maybe 30 minutes. We felt so ripped off. The freaking tickets were 10$ what a rip!

  • these guys ruled Beserkeley!

  • Man I love this band. Thank you for posting this!

  • the lead singer is smokin'

  • My dad is the bassist!

  • I remember your dad. How's he doing? He was a very decent player and could sing great harmony. I used to see the group at the Keystone Palo Alto and the Old Waldorf in SF. My neighbor (Kim) had a big crush on Royse.

  • Your Dad was/is a really nice guy!

  • for real??

please send my best to your dad

ask him if he remembers opening for elvis costello

    i was at that show

  • Your Dad was part of a great and most underated band. I saw them play the open air theatre in Regents Park, London. They were brilliant and they couldn't get the crowd to leave if I remember. Capital Radio recorded the gig and did broadcast it.

It is now one of those gigs that if everyone who says they were there really were, there would have been a crowd that would have filled a stadium!!

Still playing the CDs regularly today.

Still one of my fav bands.

    Keni.

  • @kenisurfer I have that concert on CD and they were really brilliant that night.

But I don't understand why no one posts any of the great songs from their 1st album except "Rock and Roll Is Dead".

  • @smokeemonkee Totally agree I had 2 albums and they were sensational. Never got to see them live so this is a real treat

  • @alexandraroyse Coolest dad ever ... I'm jealous

  • We Did gigs with them at "The Stone" and Mabuhay Gardens.

There was a great underground of Punk Pop that they kind of spearheaded.

My two bands Alex the Kat and The Donuts were part of it also.

  • I miss Psychotic Pineapple :(

  • me too...i was a denizen of the stone back in the day

  • Is there anyplace I can get the whole video?

  • Tommy definitely knows what to do with a Stratocaster! (Check out Rock and Roll is Dead!) And the band's dedication to garage pop in the midst of the 70s ounj thing is really prettyy f***ing original. These guys are great!

I used to see them at the Keystone Berkeley c. 1978!

  • One of the best bands ever, despite the fact that few people have ever heard of them -- or maybe BECAUSE of the fact!

  • I use to do gigs with these guys.

    They were SO Good...

I wish there was one band these days who play and sound as pure as these guys.

  • me too

  • hate it

  • Not anywhere near as classy as P J Proby's original restructuring of this 40s song.He made it in the style of the Beatles

  • Yeah, they're class!

  • The rubinoos are sooo good :D

  • damn skippy- i was a junior in high school when this stuff was coming out. i had to say VAN HALEN-YEAH! UFO-YEAH! to my amigos- but this was (and remains) my guilty pleasure. They sing like birds, and are virtuosos. They deserve ALL the notoriety and cash. long live the rubinoos!

  • I love them. Stupid fuckin avril.

  • these guys rule!

  • Great Band!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Brill vid! Does anyone remember them doing 'I think we're alone now' before Tiffany got her hands on it? And does anyone have them performing it? Good band at the time - them and The Knack!!

  • anyone know the venue ???

  • They were good! I just remembered the name when I was looking for the Rubettes' Sugar Baby Love. This band reminds me in a way of the Greg Kihn band, also good, and yet without that star quality. I'm listening to more good bands now instead of starry ones.

  • amazing you would say that

khin and the rubinoos used to share the bill in clubs in san franciso

  • Yup Old Waldorf, great shows

  • These guys were almost as great as the Raspberries at doing power pop. Thanks for posting this!

  • Beautiful! Anyone have a video of the band playing "Falling in Love"? Heard them play it on their Elvis Costello and the Attractions tour back in '79(?)

  • Wow! The Rubinoos were awfully good! I will always love John Rubin's vocals - they were spot on for the Rubinoos. I'm also a big TV Dunbar fan. Great stuff! Thanks for posting.

  • Wow, oh Wow, I'm back at the Old Waldorf in SF or Longbrach. Where is Royce now days?
