Hmm, I think I'm a Youtube "Commoner". This being that I come frequently to check up on my few favored subscriptions and also co-staring in a show of our own.
so i hear you ask way ent you...i have a webcam but i dont have a mic i have stuff i would like to say but cant and i also hear u say buy a mic i got a lone of a mic of a friend and couldnt work out how to get cam and mic to record at the same time to make a vid u can hear ...like the silent b&w movie age is gone for ever
idk, i always come to youtube and check out my subscriptions and occasionaly email and comment the people who entertain me. hmm, i guess im kind of renting an appartment.
I was a tourist but now am an official resident. It interesting though, once you finally decide to establish your very own channel, it's liked creating a new home or establishment or perhaps its like setting shop like those vendors you see in the park selling their hotdogs, ice cream, etc. I am now a resident and proud of it.
I'm not sure. I would consider myself a resident because I've been here a while. But I'm not considered famous or anything, so I'm not sure what to say. Nice vid though.
I consider myself a YouTube resident, because I am a member of the YouTube community for more than one year, I have more than 150 favorites, I look for new videos everyday and I'm working on my second video now.
I consider myself a resident of YouTube. I have my own channel, which I post videos to somewhat regularly, and I have a good group of people to interact with. I visit this site just about everyday, and watch videos that catch my intrest, such as this one.
Tourist through and through, i have a couple subscriptions, but only because I only started a youtube account about about a month ago, and in the near future i want to make a few videos and become a resident
I'm a tourist, I watch videos and stuff, I don't want to make videos because I know they would'nt be good, and I don't want to spam the site with crap. I'm fine with just watcbing the videos that I like, especially the funny ones.

I'm a tourist all the way. I come here a lot, but only when there is nothing else to do. Usually I'll be sent a link to a fun video, then end up watching eight other videos by following the links YouTube provides at the end. I don't consider myself a resident, though, because I don't really interact with other people. Just watch their fun videos. ;D
This was really kind of interesting to think about. Thanks!

Seriously, though. I haven't decided if I want to be a resident. I appreciate what everyone does, but I'm not sure I want muck up the scenery by adding my own shabby housing development. Visiting is nice. Really great.
hi well i guess i would call myself alittle bit of both! I want to become a resident if I only had more time in the day! I like to come here to check in on my subscriptions and see what else I bump into!
Hmm...resident. Ive had my youtube account for over a year and can't stop coming on here. Tried to take a few breaks, but I always ended up back here. :) I got my channel set to my liking and some videos I check regularly. Also a frequent commenter. ^^
I'm a full time resident. I spend every day on youtube. Whether it's watching AMVs, anime, or slideshows, or random funny videos. I also have like 40 videos and lots of friends, so i'm a pretty active resident.
I lurk here on a regular basis, like I do in most places I like. Back when I started finding online communities I used to post a lot, but the general rudeness of internet people scared me into permanent lurkerdom, so now I'm a lurker by habit.

resident. here everyday. have my channel set to my liking. i watch tons of videos. music vids, hilarious vids, tv snippets, full episodes before they're taken down. i talk to ppl on here. i love it here.
Hey, you forgot the third group! Does anyone still use the age old internet term "lurker"? I come here daily to watch other people's videos while dreaming of engaging in the conversation. However, I have no camera right now and I'd rather not make slide shows. So, I'm not a tourist and I don't technically live here. I'm in lurker limbo for now.
Hey, this vid was engaging. It's out of my usual path but I watched the whole thing. Liked the outdoors. I'm more of a politics--anti-religion--science--space person (right there on the end of lonely street). Liked this vid though. I'd say I'm a resident who sticks to my own hood, or hoods.
I'm a gem-hunter. I look on YouTube for those classic snippets that I thought I'd never see again; Rudolph Nureyev on The Muppet Show, for instance, or Herbert von Karajan conducting. I also look for more local stuff that no-one else would be interested in, like The Battle of the Bands at Wootton Bassett. So neither resident nor tourist really; more of a couch Indiana Jones.
You seem like you're genuinely interested and I did watch the whole video since it was interestING... I simply come here to find entertainment, I'm subscribed to 3 people -- One comic, one artist, one everyday "girl" who's interesting (I find the UK quite interesting). Other than that, I'm here just due to random links. *shrug* Classify that as you wish :)
I guess I am more of a "I own a holiday house there" There are other places on the web where I would say I'm a resident where I have friends and what not. Here I come to watch friends videos or search for something interesting
If I had to pick between the two. I'd be classed as tourist
The big question is: does it really matter who's a tourist and who's a resident? In all reality, it's a website that a higher conglomerate is making money off of because, once again, people are taking a website too far like they did with Neopets, Live Journal, Xanga, and Myspace.
catch is, most people who comment will be residents, cos while some tourists might sign up, im sure that there are many many more who cant comment cos they cant be stuffed to get an account.
I am the kind of resident who mostly watches and sometimes participates, I comment, I have an extensive list of favourites and I have a few videos but I do not "meet" people here. Real life is full of people who I need to spend time with.
i am a resident, i may have no vids yet but i try to keep myself up to date on the people that i have subscribed, waching commenting and talking to the directer, people with usernames such as blunty3000 or wobblebottom
I absolutely love this, very poetic, in your own Blunty way. As for the question:
I've a nice apartment, no real friends but a couple good aquantinces that I listen to on a daily, or sub-daily basis. The camera's coming this winter, the subscriptions are becoming more abundant, and more fulfilling, and me and my friends are already writing our short vids, and I'm getting into animation. So damn straight, I'm a resident.
I guess im a tourest, but I visit youtube everyday for a good amount of time. The reason why im calling myself a tourest is beacause I havent posted any videos. I REALLY want to.
Im a resident. Speaking of being a resident, I once went on youtube for about 16 hours a day for 6 days. I know what you're thinking. "Damn, he must smell like a pile of horse feces covered in vegemite." Well, I smell lovely now after about 6 hot spring water baths using 25 litres of body wash.
I guess I'm a little of both, working on a series that I haven't put up yet, and would be my first, and I love to poke around and check on my subscriptions and read replies to my comments.
Am definitely a tourist though I come here regularly, not just when I encounter a YT link. This is a gold mine. Where else can I find out that Charles Trenet was as bad an actor as he was great a singer, or view old TV shows, or see a dozen versions of a student being tasered by guards hired to protect his university from indiscreet inquiry? But "fine intimate entertainment" is not quite right: it's rather "attention whoring". Do I mind? No, it's always fun to see the energy that goes into it.
I'm not a resident or a tourist. I consider myself a visitor: I come here semi-regularly to watch the peeps I subscribe to and occasionaly take in some other sights. But mainly just for my regulars.
I enjoyed your video. Thanks for posting it also as a response to the What Defines a Community? video because it has similar themes. I agree that it is interesting to make distinctions and not judge between types of YouTube participation that are short or long term. And yet, the term "tourist" carries with it some negative connotations, doesn't it? Do people judge others negatively if they are a tourist, versus a YouTube "resident"? Some good food for thought. Great idea for a video!!
Reasons: Every one you listed. Music videos I have never seen of 1980's songs, debate, learning, curiosity, by ratings, by most discussed, music vids fans have made, etc. Basically, I treat youtube like google except I want multimedia (video). When I got high speed internet, I thought it would save time. Now I just spend more.
I'm trying to be a resident. I have no cam...yet, but I make animation vids until I am able to obtain a cam. I would make vlogs with my animations, but I have no mic either. I am truely a youtube looser, but working on changing that for I'm here to stay. :o)
I think im a kind of mix, im here nearly all the time yet I don't make the videos people want to see (mainly cus im camera shy). It's like you've lived there for a long time but no one actually realises you do live there.
Hey Blunty! I love being a tourist - it's like window shopping - costs nothing. I also love listening to you ramble on - you are like the town gossip - no need to go anywhere else to get the biz! Just don't emigrate...PLEASE!!!
I'm the tourist who just stepped off the bus!!! Thanks for being my tour guide, and your country is beautiful. So much to see and do here, it must be full of tourists, and I'm sure the population is huge. Can I get a Green Card? I want to stay longer.
i'd say i am a really keen tourist and want to live here (as i have posted videos) but don't think i could handle the time and devotion it takes to be a regular video poster like yourself.
I think I fit right between a resident and a toerist... Cauze sometimes I spent realy much time on comments and stuff like that. But sometimes I just click away.
I would like to think of myself as a resident. I view videos on a regular basis, have created a profile, took the time to save favorites and subscribe, I actually watch the people I have subscribed to, and I make comments on videos. The only thing I currently am not doing is publishing videos, but that may change soon since I have purchased a new camcorder.
I'm the 3rd cousin twice removed who likes to come in and watch the family and make comments although I have yet to keep any videos I put on youtube..on youtube, I tend to take them down. This is my summer home I think...
I would say Tourist. I come often, every day for maybe an hour and leave if I can. I would not consider myself a resident of YouTube as I spend more time at other sites than this. Also I can not create a video to save my life. So I am a proud tourist!!!
I´d say tourist, sometimes i really like the place and visit several days just checking things out, sometimes I hate the site and dosent come near it. Anyhow, im not a resident thats for sure :)
I would call myself an "on-campus" resident. I come here to learn and discuss, and I have an account (obviously) and I subscribe and save favorites. However, I am not an instructing "resident", since I have no means to make my own videos yet.
Maybe you could think a bit more about what you're saying so as to actually produce something of at least a degree of meaningful substance. Why do we bother watching videos of people asking why we watch videos? Are we that bored? Are we that bland? You're listed as a 'director' with a bunch of videos, and I certainly am trying to find a beam of light. Unfortunately this didn't make the grade. Still very self serving, very unoriginal, very obvious commentary. Nice scenery though.
Tourist I guess, but that's because simply I don't post any videos (which is ironic because I'm getting my AA in broadcasting) and I lack the self-esteem to film myself, and have other people look at it. But I do come to this site almost everyday, sometimes for even hours at a time.
I'm most likely a tourist trying to come up with money to buy an apartment. I have no videos of my own (Yet I plan to make a machinima using Lego Starwars II) but I happily leap from topic topic. Brickfilm to some guy playing the piano. Clips of family guy to music videos.
I'd say I'm a tourist mostly. I don't regularly visit the site, discuss videos or post my own. However I do like being able to go onto my subscription list and see what's new, or just pop something into the search engine and see what comes up. I guess maybe I fall in the in-between category...perhaps YouTube is simply my vacation home.
I don't think the chances of a tourist seeing this vid are very good. Why is this player like this? And, I guess I'm a resident just looking for any video I find entertaining in some way. Funny, fun, dramatic, intelligent, contraversial, funny, specific topics, funny.
Frappy: are you a tourist because you only watch videos and don't upload them? Is someone a resident when they don't contribute material? Can someone be a resident without making their own videos? I am not being a sarcastic jerk, I really want your opinion!!!
yay the gorge.....u drop those things off the chair lift that bang wen they hit the ground haha......last time i went there..my cuz cought a fish in the pool lol twas after the floods
Would consider myself a resident. I like to find new and interesting things on you tube. I don't make videos, yet, (no camera) but do comment, vote etc. Its much better than TV. If you dig long enough you can find really good stuff. Free Hugs is my Fav video. WE do Free Hugs in my small town, most of the peole I know here are younger, but I also share a lot with friends and my kids. I extremely dislike ads and haters.
blah, i guess im a tourist thinking to move in :P got my own channel and a few vids .... not quite any friends...hopefully i'll have more vids online soon once i get a camera, and make friends! :D
It started with my friends finding the site and sent me some links. I think some used the Share function which gave me "Someone wants to share vids with you! Login and see!". I didn't make an account at first, but then I decided... Meh, why not. A place for random little vids. At first i decided might as well put my RCT3 vids here because I didn't get enough feedback at the RCT3 Forums. So, now I'm rooted. Resident. YouTubed 4 life!
I'd say im a bit of both (my god that sounds way too dodgy....)
I keep wanting to do more Vlog type videos, but when i get the camera on I totally forget what im wanting to say (dont know if that's just nerves or what...)
In normal face to face situations I can talk & talk (blame my mother for that...... sorry mum lol)
At present I'd just call myself the artist that comes and sings at the weekends on the karaoke....
Hey I live in Tasmania, Hobart to be more specific. I went down to the same gorge when I visited Launceston (have done quite a few times, my relatives live there), and is sure is beautiful.
I'd say I'm a resident, but sort of a minor one. I upload videos, but the time spans between those uploads are pretty big, so a new video I upload would be quite rare for now.
I'm a tourist but it's becoming more like I'm looking to move into the neighborhood, if you will. Gathering courage to post things. If everybody was as nice as you are Blunty, it wouldn't be a question, I'd already be here.
WASSSAAUP!!! Hey blunty, whats up? im a resident. i got my rock videos. anyway, i love the way you came to the gorge to support your subject. great example! i admire you're work.
Regular tourist slash lurker I think. I tend to be here at least 1 out of every 2 days, but I tend just to watch and comment, I don't post many videos (have tried, and it's mostly technical bits holding me back right now)
If you put videos on Youtube you are a resident, if you don't and you just watch and comment, you're a tourist. Either way, both make a community worth being part of in my view.
I am a resident. I am the kind of person who really wants to know something about this world before I leave it. Books give me part of that world, friends and family give me another, moments of lonely reflection give me another. The beauty of YouTube for me is perspective.
I'd like to think of myself as a resedent; problem is, I don't have the equipment or know-how to make or upload a video. I do interact with people as often as I can, and I have my own channel, barren as it may be. yeah...
I'd say I'm a resident who just moved here.
Thank you.
PS. I love debating politics, thank you very much.
I just came to YouTube a while back looking for good BSL videos.I found Wallace the Pitbull, became sort of a celebrity Pit stalker, then I found Zak George and his dogs.I was kinda miffed that he wasn`t doing all dog videos but as I`ve watched his videos,he`s quite funny and witty all on his own and tonight I discovered you and subscribed because I love this first video.I guess you could say I came to town for a visit, found some nice people and I`m thinking of moving here.
I don't know what the hell to consider myself.. I really don't care much for youtube, blogs, or any of the sort.. the sole reason I came on here and joined was to watch Top Gear video clips whenever I felt like it.. from there I've seen many videos, mostly car related but some musical stuff pertaining mostly to my taste in music.. some RHCP covers etc.. I've only just recently subscribed to Blunty and Tokenblackchic because well, I thought they were funny, simple as that.
What brought me here first as more than a daytripper was my friend Jody. The stuff I found through her was really interesting and now I spend a lot of time here. I haven't furnished my YouTube house much as yet, but am planning the decor....
Definite resident. That gorge looked cool, would love to see more outdoors from Tasmania now that Springtime has arrived. It seems like such a remote place but I know it is home to many. As for YouTube, it has basically replaced TV and even movies as entertainment. The content is so much more real and unpretentious (usually). Cheers.
I would say that I am a regular tourist. I may however consider moving to your lovely community if I can think of something worthwhile to contribute. YouTube is a nice community where I have yet to find my own niche.
your voice sounds so much like the aussie tv voice overs , very professional hehe like the government ads, you know they say; authorized by the state government Canberra? yeh ... anyways nie vid. i'm a resident ;D but have switched between two 'accounts' now i'm only on this one ;)
I was firmly a tourist for a long time...even posting comments under my partners account! But now I would say I'm a semi-resident tourist. If that makes sense. I visit not daily, but several times a week. I've added a bit of content, but not anything "substantial". I visit to see what you've been doing yourself Blunty, as well as looking for music vids, TV themes, TV ads, etc and seeing what's popular.
half and half. I have my own account and I use it daily and have my own videos but I only have one friend and no subscribers

Tourist (I highly value my privacy).

I would like to think of myself as a resident. I view videos on a regular basis, have created a profile, took the time to save favorites and subscribe, I actually watch the people I have subscribed to, and I make comments on videos.

I suppose I'm a resident.
Resident. YouTubed 4 life!
etc.

Cheers.
