Does anybody else see that strange look in Philip's eyes? He is a genius beyond what most of us could possibly imagine. This is the sight of a true big picture guy, get used to it. xD
If there's one thing i've would wanna do over everything else, it would be to just hang out at that place. I live in Sweden, i'm a software engineer and i don't have any good excuse to not do it, not today, but maby tomorrow i'll sit there, take a sip and write some lines and have Philip walk by me and i could go, "wow there's a guy with common sense.. and i just saw him IRL". The ideas in that brain of his, they're just, down to earth and so great!
Yo Kevin you naming Diggnation Milknation now or whats the deal? Would love to see a nationwide tour thing, maybe Rev3 tour with some musical acts, do like a geek music festival tour or something.
Here's an idea I had for coffee shops afraid of "camping" geeks: coin-operated coffee tables. Stay as long as you want, but when your quarter runs out the table has a simple pressure sensor, then it vibrates or does something embarrassing until you drop another coin or move on.
Great job Kevin! I am a long time viewer & fan of all your work. From screen savers to diggnation. I'm am self a employed music producer/tech geek recently signed with universal music! Over the years your advice has helped me immensely. Keep up the awesome work! Please check out my channel and some of my work if you have the time. Cheers!
This is more and more turning out to be one of those shows which I found really lame when I first read about it but is starting to like more and more by each episode. Great job Kevin!
I don't know who this guy is or ever used or thought about using "Second Life" but I fucking love this guy, and the 3 question CEO survey sounds genius. Might have to do that with people I know.
Been a content creator (scripter/builder) in SL for many years now, and have attended online events in world where he spoke. Always have seen the genius in him (as everyone in SL has) and looked up to him. This interview gave context and understanding I would have never had elsewhere, thanks Kevin! Really appreciate the deep dive on what are essentially genius minds.
Great episode. Phil was a very interesting person. Had some great ideas and steps for being part of a start-up. It is about being passionate about what you are doing. Thanks Kevin.
Best episode so far! Great interview, I didn't know anything about Philip Rosedale before this but liked all he had to say. Also the cafe idea sounds amazing!
Very cool. BUT I have one complaint. The bell dinging noise at the beginning and end of your video... is stolen from The Social Network!! I swear it is! It's the very first sound you hear in that movie or something. I'm going to go watch it now... brb.
Ok, fine, I'm wrong - it's not the first sound or even in the beginning, but I swear it's somewhere in the movie!
@pyjammez Kevin interviewed Trent Reznor and has his number. I highly doubt he STOLE it. Plus Trent ecourages his fans to use his music. Also, it's from Ghosts I-IV
@pyjammez He didn't steal it. Besides the fact that Kevin and Trent are friends, Ghosts (the album the track is from) was released under Creative Commons and Trent encouraged people to use the music for non-commercial purposes. As for whether or not it's in the Social Network score, I'm not sure, but two pieces from the score are reworked tracks from Ghosts so this could certainly be one of them.
@aveslp Ah, cool.... I just imagined Kevin saying "We need to use a sound from the social network that people will be familiar with to subconsciously convince them that foundation is as cool and high quality as the movie." So he more likely asked Trent to create it and Trent sent him an mp3 file of a bell dinging. Who knows, I just feel strange every time I start watching foundation and hear that bell... It makes me feel for a split second that I'm watching my favourite movie, then I'm not!
@pyjammez It's a track from NIN Ghosts. Released under Creative Commons from Trent. Since a lot of elements from Ghosts found their way into The Social Network score-- you can indeed hear the chords from Foundation in the movie. The only time you hear the chords is when Sean Parker sees Facebook for the first time in the movie.
So enjoyable to listen to two people discussing such an amazing period of history and referring to so many 'old school' terms and applications. A really good interview.
This is the gayest interview ever. They're almost making out like every 5 min.
