I was there! I remember Phil:s calling out the band before the awesome set II Box opener, and the train whistles. There was a great moon out inspiring the Standing (and a Picasso the night before - or was it after).
It was possible to see a decent show in 92. Vince's voice grew on me but there are times when his keyboards were simply awful - but he would hit these big cheesy, sour chords went about as well with the music as a fart in church.
WOW, that tear going down Jerry's left cheek during Standing on the Moon at 1:58:08 just makes me tear up!!! We all miss you so much Jerry ~ EPIC SONG
Hell in a Bucket Sugaree Same Thing Tennessee Jed Masterpiece Bird Song Box of Rain Saint of Circumstance So Many Roads Terrapin Station Drums Space I Need a Miracle Standing on the Moon Throwin' Stones Not Fade Away Knockin' on Heaven's Door
was also there. a day before high school graduation. up all night with chiseled smiles. no sleep. and then ran the last day exhausted. great times of being young
i was 18 that year, i was a new dead head just discovering them. This was way before things got bad. I was at Riverport auditorium in St louis in 95 and the dead sent out a letter before the show on day 2 and they threatened to quit forever if the dead heads didnt get control of the crowds. I would definitely say it was already bad at that point but soldier field..their next stop would also be their last , for jerry passed away 30 days later :( R>I>P>Jerry but we all knew it wouldnt last 4ever
This is the first GD show I took my sister too. While there may have been a lot of hit or miss shows this was a gem. the crowd gave a great vibe, the weather was great and a full moon to boot. Same Thing, Bird Song, So Many Roads, Terrapin>Drums/Space and Standing on the Moon were killer. I'll never forget my sister having to "wash the ants off her face" during the intermission or the train rippin through the stadium...Give SOTM a second look-Jerry sheds a tear at 1:58:10-what a tune...
This was my final Grateful Dead show. It was a great 6 year ride, but I'm glad I got off the bus before things got really bad, and the most played songs every year were "Eternity," "Liberty," "Corinna," "Samba" "Way To Go" and all that other crap. The only thing I liked about this show was that it had a GREAT Bird Song. Otherwise it was very forgettable. Leyla Ustun, whatever became of you?
Pretty sure this was my first dead show. It was this night or the other show they played at Giants in the summer of 92'. We are at the very last row of the upper deck, right below the "HESS" sign. Isn't this the show where there morphed each member's face into a skull on the big screen sometime after they came out of space?
i had so much fun at this show!thx for the great mems. although I believe they were on a downward slide from this tour on,they played well at Giants i.e '91...Eyes opener!! + DS, Saint of !!! In Chicago they played "Sketches of Spain" out of space, enuff said.
