From WWII to today, this song will forever have a special place in the hearts of soldiers and their families. Remember waiting for Dads return and my family waiting for mine. Thank You!
Not a dry eye in the house!!! Magnificent job!! Thanks so much for this holiday tribute to our troops. May God bless the brave men and women who so selflessly and graciously honor and protect our country. May Christmas be kind to them, and may they all return safely and soon.
The Almighty protect the troops in Iraq who just want to return home safe & sound to their friends and loved ones from a war that was never theirs and which has caused much suffering and misery to all...
This video makes me appreciate what our men & women do, whether in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, etc. They are our heroes. They are protecting OUR world so that we can be free to post, watch,&comment on videos such as this one. Thanks to the person that posted it; thanks to Josh for singing it;above all, thanks to our troops wherever they may be.We ALL love you and are bursting with pride for you!
Absolutely love Josh's version of the song and the video. This will be my 1st Christmas without my Mom and this definitely touched my heart. I'm sure this song effects many of you the same way.
I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!!! Thank you so much for making it. If you liked this one you need to see " Bring Him Home Santa". It is another one that will bring tears to your eyes. God Bless Our Troops and Our President. Keep safe everyone! Merry Christmas!!!!
I think that I would like to bring this online argument to a close. It really wasn't why I made and posted this video, and I'd like to steer away from it. I thank every family member and friend of a soldier for your comments. And to MayTanner, in spite of our strong disagreement, I wish you a very Merry Christmas.
And the same to you and everyone out there! ~ Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! ~ Frohe Weihnachten und ein glückliches Neues Jahr! ~ Joyeux Noël et une bonne Année! ~
Feliz Navidad y un Prospero Año Nuevo! Sana sa'ida! :)
I don't bash your soldiers! They're simply pawns in a bigger game. Just thik of it... The thread of another attack like 9/11 comes from outside Iraq/Iran or any other country that might be involved. They live among us and are financed with money that can't be traced... So how will your forces protect you from so far away? I'm really sorry for all the families who have to miss their loved ones but I still stick with my opinion about the song.
Try to understand that this song is not meant to boo-hoo and whine about soldiers not being home for Christmas. It is a tribute to them, to recognize what they have given up for us and to say thank-you.
I don't think you have any just reason to say such things. I'm so sick of this attitude from most (here I say most) Europeans. Who was it that came to your aid against the onslaught of the Nazis?
If you still have a problem with this song, then don't listen to it.
This was a very long time ago and I think that Germany paid back for it like all other countries involved. Just note that some European countries weren't involved in WWII (like my country of origin for I live in Germany but I'm not German at all).
And I was born long after WWII just like you I'd assume.
And I don't listen to this version of the song, thanks anyway for the suggestion, I simply came back for the cause of replying (as I get notified).
If you make your videos public in here you'll have to endure criticism of your work. Isn't it still the Land of the Free? Some people will like it other won't.
This video practically made me cry...but it seemed like the troops pictured didn't match the ones who were speaking (their names don't match) which is a kind of weird thing to do.
Yes, the soldiers in the video do not match the audio. I had a very difficult time finding even a few clips of soldiers sending greetings home, much less trying to get their names to match. There is a note on this fact in my video description. Thanks again for taking the time to watch.
I'm sorry, folks! I feel really bothered with the spoken comments of the Soldiers in this song. I live in Europe and was against sending troops into the Irak from the start so my compassion for the soldiers there has its limits. It has nothing to do with a Christmas CD and should have been added to the end if anybody wants to listen to it.
That's how Josh wanted to do it. We Americans are very proud of our troops, and I'm glad he included the messages in the song. The members of our military are fighting to keep us safe from people whose entire purpose is to destroy us. I'm very grateful to our soldiers. Freedom isn't free, you know.
(I know, but as my First language is German I spelled it accidentally wrong.)
You can be as proud as you want to be nobody will deny the families with relatives over there that it's a hard time for them. But do they really protect you? There is a lot of evidence that they don't but that's another topic. As for the song... I like it best when it's pure Josh.
Our troops - our sons & daughters, brothers & sisters, fathers & mothers - don't protect us? That is such a ridiculous assertion that I'm not even going to bother to refute it.
What does this have to do with Christmas? Everything. Who better than a deployed soldier to say, "I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams."?
And think of how much our troops sacrifice for us. Isn't that what Christmas is really about? Jesus Christ was born into this world that He might give Himself as a sacrifice for many. Josh's version of this song has more to do with Christmas than you think.
PLEASE! Don't compare Jesus Christ with professional soldiers! They don't sacrifice their lives with greater cause. That's really exaggerating things too far. The soldiers only do their jobs and obey their commands nothing more and nothing less. I won't deny that it's a hard job but nobobdy forced them to do it. They chose it knowing they might be sent into action some day.
Perhaps it helps you to understand that Europeans don't tend to get carried away (patriotically) concerning the missions of their troops even if they have personal worries about their own friends/relatives.
I believe Jesus said: "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." How many Patriots have died for a people that say it was just their job. What price is your life worth....
God bless our troops and the family members who watch and wait. This patriotic American loves you very much and is grateful for your service. Merry Christmas.
For goodness sake, what a beautiful song and video. Our hearts are always with the troops. Let's not forget those families that are without their lovedones this season. God bless.
This is our first Christmas together as a married couple & our last Christmas together until 2009. I don't want to spend any holiday without my soldier, but unfortunately we'll have too. Just a note to all of those who are spending this Christmas without their soldier, you're always in our thoughts and prayersw & may God bless all of you.
Don't you hate it when songs hit so close to home. My husband is also downrange and we will spend the holidays without him. Home is where the heart is, and so that means even with a huge distance between us we can still be "Home" for Christmas - I pray my dreams will grant me that.
My son is in Iraq this year and his 2 babies are with me. Today is the babies first birthday and the older one is three. This is my sons second deployment and i am having a very difficult time. I seem to cry at the drop of a hat and this video makes it even harder. God Bless all of the troops ad their families that are sperarated this year! My prayer is that all return home safely.
Holy cow...I cried like a baby watching this video! I recently purchased Josh Groban's newest CD with this song on it and I had never heard it before. This was such a beautiful video, thank you for making/sharing it. God bless all our military heroes, because that is what all of you are. Merry Christmas!
This video was so wonderful! My husband is in Iraq this Christmas and it is so hard to be without him. This video is a reminder to everyone of the sacrifice all of our troops are making every day, and especially around the holidays. Keep praying for them to have a happy holidays even while gone and to come home safe. Thank you, Happy Holidays!
My son Anthony will ship out to Badhdad 12/05/07. this song has touched me greatly this year. The video is good...a little bit superficial from a family of one in Iraq, but still the best out there so far. Could go a little deeper. A lot of competition out there, I know. But forget that and go with the real. That's what we all need. I posted the video. Thanks and God Bless!

Thank you! I made a video as well of this same song, and I cried while making it... I used internet photos of soldiers as well as footage and photos of my friend who spent 18 months away from his family, including 12 months in Iraq. He will be spending Christmas home this year, so we are very grateful and thankful for that. Thank you for a wonderful translation of this song.
Amazing video, made me cry instantly. My husband is in the Navy and I am very thankful we will be spending our first Christmas together. Next year we will not because he is getting deployed. My brother is in the Army and will be going to Iraq next year. God bless all the men and women in uniform!!!
so wow...that was amazing...when the soldier came into his sons classroom...i almost lost it...simply stunning...i hope i do all the soldiers justice out there when i sing this on christmas for the families who have members still in iraq...have a merry christmas...if only in your dreamsss...<3
I love this song and this video. my boyfriend has been in training camp for the army for 2 months... he graduates in about a week and will be home in 15 days. we're unsure as to where he'll be going after that. Thank you for this video and thank you to all the troops active or not. Hope everyone comes home safely <3
OMG,I love it! I don't know anyone over seas right now but I do feel the sorrow for each family. My Spouse is an ex-marine and it hurts to know that there are families torn from their loved ones. God Bless, and Hope everyone comes home safe.
This song always makes me cry. I know all too well how it is to be without my family on a holiday about love and togetherness.
I feel for everyone who cannot be with their loved ones on this holiday season. God bless you all...

It is absolutely classless to bring politics into this. Please go elsewhere with the debate.
