  • I'm in love with this song. It was one of the best my high school choir ever sang.

  • Thank you for posting this video. My college choir sang this last year on our tour in England, and it just brings back wonderful memories. Thanks!

  • I too remember this from the end credits of the movie "Nixon".

  • This exact piece was featured in the soundtrack to the 1995 Oliver Stone movie "NIXON",the best version of this i have heard, thanks for the video.

  • My chior is taking this to competitiion.!! We're an advanced chorus but we're only 8th graders.. But most of us have been doin corus since 2nd grade... I hope we do good at competition.!!! :)

  • thats how you put some stank on it Mormon style!!!

  • i have to admit this song makes me cry its so beautiful. i don't usually cry for anything

  • my choir sang this at state contest last spring. we got 1st place with it!!

  • If only the thousands of American heroes lying in Arlington National Cemetery could hear this song just once more.

  • Although this performance is amazing, I think my favorite version is the 2010 Texas All State Choir.

  • i seriously almost cried while listening to this. so pretty.

  • Very beautiful.

  • it would be so awesome if they held it out a little bit longer.

  • Incredible song! Tight on unison and harmonies! Wow!

  • I Think they are the best choir in the whole world :)

  • I'm not religious and I certainly don't believe in any higher power or God. But I do find Hymes and choir music to be so relaxing.

    Thanks for posting, emily

  • Thank you for posting this amazing piece. My sister sang this for her concert at ESU, and now I appreciate it even more than the Celtic Woman's version.

  • America! America! America!

  • This must be what the heavenly choir sounds like. Absolutely beautiful. Once heard, it can never be forgotten. Who did the stunning arrangement?

  • This is by far the most stunning arrangements of this Classic! I was privileged enough to perform this arrangement while attending Pepperdine University under the direction of Milton Pullen, a man who makes the world a better place just by being in it. Hearing this again brought back so many memories. To the previous poster, enjoy every moment with this song. When it's done correctly it is an experience you will never better and you will recall until the day you die, dare I say it can be a Reli

  • My choir is singing this. It is probably our fav piece right now. Cn't wait to sing it =]

  • I love this version sung by the MoTabs! Beautiful! :) (Well, everything they sing is lovely.) :)

  • this song is so beautiful i love it.

  • I used to be sooo jealous of the ones that sang this in High School. Made me wanna cry every time I heard it.

  • Yep, I remember this from Nixon

  • My mother would sing this to me when I was young. I had them sing it at her funeral. I love this song

  • @hishaj Very sad! :(

  • This song is so amazing and makes you want to cry

  • Could you possibly upload For the Beauty of the Earth? It is difficult to find the version that MTC sings :) It was a favorite of mine and my sisters when we were little girls. Now we would love to introduce our children to it. :D

  • This song, played at the end of Nixon, did alot to humanize him. He played by the political rules of the time but when the times changed he got caught in the transistion. RIP Richard Milhouse Nixon.

  • I can here the crunching sounds of footsteps as a platoon of confederate soldiers march through the countryside.

  • America's soul is in this song.

  • @LEOPARDTWO , I cannot agree more. This work of beauty, strength and dignity towers over the offal that is considered music these days. After a hard day at work,or when I grieve for what my country is turning into,I turn to this, and my soul is refreshed......

  • Hands down the best version of the song. I got goosebumps when I hear this at the of Oliver Stone's Nixon.

  • @EliCross I felt that way also, at the end of ''Nixon''when the credits were rolling. What a tasteful and dignified piece of music. THIS is,as you state,.the ''Soul of America''.you hit the nail on the head with your words!!!!! Semper Fidelis

  • this is beautiful. no words can describe this. in the few choirs ive been in, 2 of them hav attempted this song and we were very good, but not nearly to this level

  • I think the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is the best in the world! I've always loved their sound :)

  • just beautifull, i love it!

  • nativeindianfeathers. I kno how you feel we sung it to on our last day. I love this song.

  • The school choir sang this at my graduation yesterday. Now when I listen to it, I get sad and want to eat my gun. =( I will miss high school so much. I want to be forever young.

  • Hola! Esta canción es hermosa y me fascina como la interpretan... nosotros (Coro ESPE) acá en Ecuador tambien lo estamos cantando! Gracias por compartir con nosotros este video

  • this just always gives me chills

  • so peaceful and raises my spirits :)

  • Oh, dood, after 3:52 it is absolutely TERRIBLE!

  • I first heard this version during the end credits of the movie "Nixon". Been hooked ever since. So moving and inspiriational and yes, brings a tear to my eye. Thanks for posting.

  • I sang this song as a member of my high school choir many years ago. It is the most beautiful arrangement of this song. I loved singing it then and love listening to it now. Thank-you for posting it.

  • Shenandoah IS a place. I live in Shenandoah County, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. It's SOOO pretty. I love the river but there is a ton of trash in it and a lot of the fish are starting to die from the acid levels in the water. I think we should sing this since we live here lol

  • MORMON WONDERFUL QUIRE

  • @Escargency2008 Choir^^

  • we have 2 sing this song 4 choir but it slower. im an alto

  • I'm an American woman living in the French speaking part of Switzerland and my community adult choir is singing this at our annual state choir festival this Saturday. I hope we can sing it HALF as good as the Mormon Tabernacle choir!!!!

  • This is pretty darn good. Tenors could have been a little stronger.

  • this song is one of my favorite songs that the MTC sings. Hey, cherokee, our youtube names are almost the same haha

  • The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is just awesome!!

  • I'll always remember singing this during the bicentenial celebration back in 1976 - I was 10 years old, and didn't really understand what the fuss was about, but when I hear this song now, it always brings tears to my eyes ")

  • I consider this a straight 10 - one of the 500 best pieces of music I know - and I know many. When men and women sing together for the first time, it gives you goosebumps. And the description of the rolling river - isn´t it just wonderful?

Thank you, James Erb, for a really mind-blowing composition.

  • I find this very spiritual and so uplifting.....very moving .divine I love this version thanks for posting this ..bless

  • Sang this in ensemble back in high school. Have loved it since Dad first played it for me many years ago :).. Check out the Robert Shaw Chorale version also. Older.

  • Best version I've ever heard, so beautiful. :D I love the MTC! (Mormon Tabernacle Choir)

  • Shenandoah is a real river that the people in the olden days depended on a lot, and that's why they made this folk song and passed it down from generation to generation. And we are singing this version in choir, it sounds so hard but it is really beautiful.

  • pretty sure its in virginia

  • Astonishing!

  • 2nd best rendition I have ever heard.

Chanticleer is my very first choice (also available on here), and that is ONLY because of their slower tempo so that is all compliment to you.

  • Hi! I love this song! I'm in my church choir and we are singing this song when we do our tour in Europe. This is the most breathtaking rendetnion of this song I have ever heard. Its a lot different than the one I sing tho, with my choir. In the "tis 7 long years" segment the 2nd time we sing it the sopronos split and its very difficult but I didn't hear it in this version. Also we don't have any stacked words exept at the verrrrry end. I loved this version alot tho. :D

  • I get to sing this next month for Texas All-State choir! Mixed choir :)

  • This song is so beautiful. Our choir is singing this song for our spring concert. I can't wait :)) but we're only 7th graders. I want to see how well we do. OBVIOUSLY not as good as these singers :D

  • Oh, that's awesome, you guys will be great!! Good luck!!

  • @cherokee1002 The school choir sang this at my graduation yesterday. Now when I listen to it, I get sad and want to eat my gun. =( I will miss high school so much. I want to be forever young.

  • @nativeindianfeathers Ah, believe me, it gets better from high school. Worry not. :)

  • @nativeindianfeathers me too......but this is a chalenge we have to face .

  • we are 7th graders too and we are singing it with the 8th graders, i'm an alto and none of the other alto sing except like two and so i practically i have to sing the part by myself

  • dude woah. same. but im a guy and a tenor. hahhah. this song is so beast though

  • @whyareuonmypage yea no kidding

  • @Popsicles9922 I'm singing this song in choir too :)

  • @Popsicles9922 it's good to see the young appreciate the treasures passed down from their elders. You have a wisdom not commonly found much anymore. I know it has been 4 months since you posted this message but wisdom transends time. Good luck and God bless

  • @Popsicles9922 I am somehow sure that your choir's rendition was absolutely stunning. God I miss singing songs like these. Enjoy!

  • @Popsicles9922 7th graders at my school are also singing it...(:

  • yes, this is the best orchestration I've ever heard, although the lyrics are different from every other. It's just heart-rending in its beauty.

  • There is not one time i hear this song, that it does not bring tears to my eyes. Tears of joy, it is so well sung

  • I love this version of Shenandoah, beauifully sung!

    Stu

  • VERY GOOD SONG!!!! especually in the movie Shenandoah!!!! great movie and great actor James Stewart!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well...it's the best version I'VE ever heard. Really good music gives me goosebumps. Great music brings tears to my eyes. I'm reaching for a tissue right now, if the truth be told. This is as good as it gets.

  • @busdaddy65 God Bless you, man. I feel the same way, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

  • Try the Sound Track to "Nixon" or at least the ending credits has it at end of the movie...this was Nixon's favorite Hymn, reason Stone choose it for the end of the film...

  • Does anyone know what album would include this version of the piece?

  • There's a compilation CD called "Essential Choral Classics" that has this version on it. There are two other MTC songs on that CD as well, an arrangement of "Simple Gifts" and and arrangement of "Deep River". Hope this helps!
