Well you have your tastes, but in my opinion TF:A ranks up on the same level of bad 70's designs like Diapolon or Kotetsu Jeeg in epicness scale. In my opinion it's american designers that tend to overdesign mechas, not japanese - take Bay's Transformers for starters
Japanese are the kings of over overdesigning mechs. Look at almost any super robot wars original robot, or even the japanese transformers. Some of the later gundams are even suffering from this.
@geniusbob so... you're telling me robot designs such as the one you see in about any western movie involving robots, such as Transformers, Matrix, District 9, Terminator in average are actually LESS complex than Shin Getter Robo, Daiguard, Gurren-Lagann and Godannar alike?
The only cases of giant robots having simple designs in western media I remember were Transformers, Go-bots, Orbots, OMF:2097 and Megas XLR, and those first 3 were based on japanese toys
No, not I'm not. But most Japanese robots are far more over designed. In addition to what I listed before, theres Gaogaigar, Later Gurren Laganns, almost any combiner from the brave series or the early 80s/70s, Strike Freedom, Dancouga, Gravion, etc...
So I really don't see where you're coming from. A lot of Japanese robots have been over designed to hell and back(and while they're still awesome, they get pretty busy and over done).
@geniusbob If you're putting early 80s/70s as overdesigned (which would include Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, Daimos and God Sigma), then what the fuck is not overdesigned to you? Tetsujin 28-Go?
And stop putting Gundam in the equation, they're not on the super robot genre to begin with. And Gravion sucks baloney anyway...
@geniusbob Also, you are calling the japanese kings of overdesigning mechas and then says you're not trying to deny americans tend to overdesign mechas more than japanese do, what are you trying to argue here? Being king of overdesigning mechs is supposed to imply that they overdesign mechs more than anyone, you know?
And they do over design more than anybody else. I'm not saying other countries don't over design. I'm saying Japan does it more frequently than they do.
All I'm doing is calling bullshit on somebody who says Japanese don't overdesign robots. Watch enough of them, and you'll see that I'm right.
@geniusbob Japanese designs more Robots PERIOD. You're obviously gonna find a good ammount of any line of design when there's tons of mecha games and Animes. At least japanese take things seriously when designing more convincing robots like on Votoms, Macross or Patlabor, western designs just slap a bunch of LEDs all over then till you have power armors/robots that look like a fucking raver.
Want to see overdesigned shit? Start reading comics drawn by rob liefeld.
TFA looks like how it does because its easy to animate. When you look at mechs like Getter, Mazinger and more recently Gurren Lagann they are simple and sleek for the same reason. You really have no clue what you are talking about.
The interesting thing about Gaiking and GGG units is that their series skill (Flame and Bravery respectively) are almost identical, if not mirrors of each other.
GGGG and ZA GURETO in one game... it would be too much awesome.
You should watch GaoGaiGar. There are some really tense moments where you don't really know whether or not Guy and co. can really pull out a victory.* This goes double for GaoGaiGar FINAL.
(* Well, that is assuming you can temporarily shut off that part of your brain that says "It's a Super Robot Show! Of course he's going to win!" You have to be able to do that to enjoy anything in the genre, anyway, I think.)
"In any case Mech A vs Mech Mech B (vs Mech C, ets) said mecha will ether team up after minorly trashing each other or will be teammates from very beginning. Than they will kick someones ass in especially epic manner."
A well thought out and interesting discussion about robot comparisons? ON YOUTUBE? Pinch me, I am dreaming.
I'm personally going for a draw. Guy's ever-increasing G-Stone power and SHEER TENACITY is matched by Daiya's determination, ridiculous power multiplications and...SHEER TENACITY. Anything either threw at the other would just be withstood =p
The Great is also a LOT faster than Genesic. Hell, even regular Gaiking goes into DBZ-blur regularly, so that would factor in.
@ArmageddonV2 Everyone forgets something important here. Daiya and Guy fighting each other would be boring compared to them teaming up and fighting a greater enemy.
@ArmageddonV2 I just had a thought, is the motion blur the actual result of speed, or the end result of the desire to save money for the sake of staying within the budget requirements set forth? Just something to think about.
There's no chance of it being used in a normal situation, however. Against Face Open: The Great, there's no chance of Genesic getting to the handle and connecting. The Great would have to be immobilized first, and preferably, they'd have to fight in space to effectively use the Crusher.
I just don't feel that the Crusher is effective for anything -less- than Z-Master size. In a fair fight, Genesic has to rely on his own strength (Genesic vs. Palparepa Prajna).
To be fair, Genesic was nowhere near 100% output, what with Gai not using the Hyper-energy Canisters (the hair) until utilizing Crusher, not using Galeloria Road, not using the other 2 Drivers, having been injured horribly, his spirit still unstable from constantly having his ass handed to him. If his body was at 100%, the output would probably have been a whole different level. Gai's a living computer for GGGG, if he's weak, he processes worse, and hence GGGG is worse in combat.
@ArkRiley: "The Great would have to be immobilized first"
And that is the first thing that happens on any successful execution of Hell And Heaven, so long as the opponent isn't G-Stone-powered.
The question at that point would be whether GGGG could manage to pierce GTG's armor, which is admittedly iffy.
Still, there's plenty of abilities that GGGG has aside from H&H and the Crusher. Furthermore, I don't think we ever saw GGGG at full speed; Gai was too sluggish to move it right at the time.
@haineko1101 "Still, there's plenty of abilities that GGGG has aside from H&H and the Crusher." Well, yes, that's why I mentioned Genesic fighting under his own strength, as against Palparepa Prajna.
I don't think Genesic's top speed is all that higher than what we ever saw- Guy was at top strength when he fused and final fused into Genesic and he didn't start slowing down until Palparepa took the upper hand against him. I at least don't think it's on par with FOTG.
@ArkRiley I agree that GGGG speed cannot top GTG but GGGG strength surpass even MazinKaiser, again if any mech that fight a never ending regenerating enemy and still fighting at same level of strength not lowering unless trick is stronger than any mech. Again if and only if GGGG vs GTG Guy would win if he fights with all GGGG power, Guy did not fight Palparepa at 100% strength if he did he would use Genesis Dividing and Gatling Drivers yes the drivers are there but not shown.
Don't act like Genesic's only power is in the Goldion Crusher! That's a last-ditch weapon for highly selective situations. Genesic is strong enough with his bare hands!
But it's a tough matchup. The Great is much more maneuverable than Genesic is, but Guy never, ever gives up- he went far enough as to pull the heavily outclassed, already wrecked GaoFighGar together with only his willpower and -kept fighting sans cockpit-. (Minding that it didn't last for too long after that, it's still amazing)
i love the genesic vs the great joke but genesic kicking the greats ass ?
nah. they would be equally crazy breaking the world apart to kill each other.
Genesic GaoGaiGar is known for power
The Great. if you have seen the series has a enormously huge horse power on his back 0.o he can easily go left or right quickly. his power is tremendous. to many differences @.0 but this serie was awesome and stays awesome alongside GaoGaiGar series ^^
I don't know... GaoFighGar might be a bit too strong. Star took out the Z-Master program, its nothing to be laughed at. Even if it was fueled by "Za Powa". But... I suppose a Face-Open Great's speed might make it a bit too weak.
Ah, robots. Hard to match up because they focus on different things.

thx for uploading.
and BTW, IMO the best mecha designs are those from Gundam.
i'm a big fan of real robot more than super genre.
but i still like mazinger, mazinkaiser, shin getter robo , jeeg and gaiking designs.

A big design mistake that the japanese make is they often overdesign their mecha.
Students of mecha design please look up on youtube "Transformer's Animated" and learn how to design proper epic mecha.
fvgbe342 11 months ago
@fvgbe342
The day of simply designed mechs was around the 70's and 80's. And for the record, Transformers are giant robots, mecha are piloted.
I personally like the designs of Japanese mechs, they are not bound by realism. Thus making full use of creativity.
MVGkaiser 11 months ago 26
@MVGkaiser
Actually, "mecha" refers to anything mechanical in nature; from guns and cars, to real robots and super robots.

True, but I'm speaking specific "Robot Anime" terms, that's the general definition.

It's sort of impossible to measure how strong Gaiking the Great is compared to anything since it's never really challenged at all in here.
Sort of annoys me in these sort of shows, there's no tension if the main character is able to steamroll through everything that comes his way.
