  • ahhhhhhhhhh 240p.......

  • i havent watched the video yet and i bet he is going to say staggering

  • dang v12

  • haha 7.000 more like 35.000 CL 65

  • Now for sale for just 7000 pounds, now even poor chavs like me can afford it. :D

  • @rock3tcat No, That's the cheeaper and far less powerful Cl600. The CL65 is about 30 grand still :D

  • Even the bi turbo v12 from 2003 on wards will be at least around 15k for a decent one. 7k, that will be a high mileage standard 600. And then of course you will have to consider insurance, and living with a realistic 10MPG daily.

  • rubbish car

  • @chrisluvjh rubbish comment

  • @fopperer rubbish reply=D

  • 738 Pounds of torque?! this thing could pull a skyscraper

  • wherez the HD at??

  • @MrElment0 Which HD? This season wasn't in HD. That wasn't until 14 or 15 or there abouts.

  • That's what i really don't like about MB. They make good cars, but when they are trying to make it go fast they just go down the old school american muscle road, with a German badge. Massive power but in the corners... oh my god.

  • I'm not a fan of Mercedes, but this car is amazing. That said though, I'd take the CLK Black instead - better to drive, and costs about the same to.

  • will it move the world backwards?? xD wonderfull guy!!

  • fucking ariel he test the best cars of the world!!! ferrari, porsche, lamborghini, mercedes, bmw, audi... what else???

  • valeriy1987 CL isn't really built for handling more for grand touring

  • Congrats MB you built a 200k German mustang. I'd rather get CLS or even CLK- much better and less expensive cars. Btw you can get used CL AMG for 50-60k now, but why would you?

  • @valeriy1987

you can get a used MB CL500 for under $20 000

that's why. One of the best grand tourers on the road at the moment

  • So MB made a German muscle car??? The Mustang isn't meant for turns. It's meant for the straights.

  • vaccines suck

  • i liked the part when they did a tug of war contest between this car and 8 blokes.

  • i feel out of place with a 302 that only has 185hp & 270lb.ft stock

  • @Thepatton420 yea ditch the rustang

  • its an f-150

  • you can pick one of these up nowadays for under 50k 1/4 the original price

  • Really !? sounds like it may have ALOT of miles on it.. or salvage/flood title ?

  • Maybe, but it must be an older C140, which was built between 1992 and 1998. At this price, it cannot be the same model as this one here...

  • it looks exactly the same as that one but our one has much more boring wheels and has no turbos

  • i drive an e350 and believe me it has plenty of power and i think it handles a bit better than the 500, but mercedes is more of a point and shoot other than a sly handling car.

  • Damn, the Stig has skill.

  • even if it isn't too good in the corners, i still like the car. driving a merc just makes you feel good about your self... and besides, most of the time all a person is doing is between lights anyway :) ... i love driving my dad's E500 and thats only got 380hp!

  • o yes, ONLY 507 hp! haha, that pretty great... i just love the way the car goes it feels so nice... i drive an '06 325xi that was my dads old around town car and i love it, but its nothing like the way the merc makes you feel (only 215 hp)

  • @daflubbernaut123 a to b - you should have just got a E320

  • yeah its too bad you weren't informed enough to know power is only a component of performance and not even the most important one

  • u poor thing living in the city :D

  • own one.love it

  • damn nice really nice i dont care ifits not comftorble ill still take it haha

  • HA ha it's only JUST faster than an STi!! This is why you need to pay for the AMG. cud see the stig finally got used to how the thing cant handle and did some decent stuff at the end

  • Sucks. new one kills it.

  • true but i can afford this one but not the new one so ill take this

  • Damn, where is the review of the new Cl65... :(

  • I completely agree. There really are very few cars I'd have over one of the new CL65's if I could spec it myself. I think they are absolutely stunning and so comfortbale. (I sat in one in a dealer! hehe)

  • it does look dated but i still take a merc over anything

  • hell no it doesnt =P

  • i agree. that cars so sexyy

  • enikol11: cos it is... omg

  • nice

    but it looks dated

    next 2 tha new 1

  • gawd..i cringe everytime it wobbles during high speed driving sessions..but dat wudn stop me frm buying mercs, well apart frm being financially restricted that is..

  • Can someone inform me as to the names of the bottom most cars on the track times board?

  • like Golf GTI , Honda Civic Type R

    and cars from this cars

  • Google "Top Gear test track"

  • What episode is this?

  • that is one of my fravorate cars

  • that is a very nice car

    - MERCEDES-BENZ FOREVER!!!!

  • I love this car...

  • It's

    1. the old one

    2. a gt not a ferrai competitor

  • Your right, but even in a AMG vehicle its a merc and merc is lux. the power is just an extra. the interior is extremely engineered and the best of technology is there.

  • for real man its handle like shit

  • uh? almost every car company does that man. Audi has used the 1.8t from 1996-05, they have used the 4.2 V8 from 1996-08, and the R8 and RS4 and S4 still use the 4.2 V8 well the new S4 has the 3.0 S/c motor. The W12 has been used by VW/Audi for many many years. Lexus same thing. Jaguar has had the same 4.2 V8 for a decade. BMW has used the 5.0 V8 for nearly a decade.

The idea is that the motor has been perfected for many years so why change it if it is working? why add more power? do u need it?

  • As for the handling, i agree these cars are not track queens but i bet if any of u drove this car on the street u wouldn't say handling sux. Think about it the people who buy these things don't know the difference between understeer and oversteer and most don't ever get near to using the power. A performance oriented driver with cash would already steer clear of mercedes because they know a better performing car is available for less. I personally like cars with shear power with some handling.

  • soft, squnigy executive car!!!! exactly what a merc represents

  • i really don't like how the back of the roof/back window looks.......

  • I sure hope that was sarcasm...

  • LOL me too. I owned a CL55 and it was only good for cruising.

  • Thanks

  • Does anyone know what song Stig is listnening to while he drives?

  • Yes. Moon River by Janis Joplin.

  • Mercedes should try to replecate their CLK-GTR, and not like the SLR McLaren.

  • Ha yeah well.

This car isn't about track driving lol. It's got a soft suspension for comfort which results in 'average' track behaviour.

Still car is awesome. AlthoughI wouldn't want it myself.

  • its a traditional mercedes - it has an unusually large engine with a pretty good tuning but a very soft suspension which gives a really smooth and comfortable ride under normal daily driving conditions ride but the handling really suffers from it - and mercedes intentionally made it that way because mercedes built this car to be a daily driver - not a supercar to be taken out on weekends

  • @buchenrad handling suffer ONLY from big weight .No matter how soft is suspension handling is great because this cars has ABC suspension

  • So ein geiles Auto! Macht mich nur jedesmal wuschig, das Lenkrad auf der *falschen* Seite zu sehen :-)

  • Until you own a CL65 you'd never know how awesome this car really is. The power and torque are just amazing!!

  • Ur nuts

  • review the new cl

  • the new cl is a beast.really beautiful,REALLY FAST

  • To lylelammers: There is no V 10 TDI... There is a V10 FSI with 525HP on sale now and I don't know if they want to sell it, but they started the "Audi R8 V12 TDI" project...

    LuckyFriend1993

  • millenium falcon.yes please

  • sweet!

  • what song is the stig listening to? lol

  • the intro to Becker

  • no it aint

  • cl 65 is amg.. if it wasnt it would be a cl600.

  • that one wasent amg though

  • i just won a 2009 CL65 in las vegas

  • Congrats! you lucky bas.... :)

  • congratulations man!

..if its for real that is..

what i'd give for one of these...

  • f u interested in sellin it lemme know :D (seriously)

  • I'll sell it and buy an R8 and an S8

  • I'd buy an R8 and an RS4 if I were in your position, I like Audi's the most but I think I'd want an RS4 over an S8 I mean you already got a monster in the R8 why get something that is so big when you can get a quick nimble RS4

  • Dude i already sold it and i got the R8 on a waiting list, i should get it in the first week of feb. about the S8 i allready have it. i love big cars, besides i have friends. and where are friends gonna sit in an R8. Think about that. Ha in yo face!!!

  • Okay no reason to get so "in my face" about it, I'm just not that into big cars I guess, except for the R8 which is definitely one of my favorite cars, what type R8 did you get, V8 or V10?

  • no no i got ordered the V8 because they sell way more of them so i wont have to wait long

  • If I had that kind of money I would definitely wait for the V10 TDI and be one of the first on the list because it is worth the wait

  • well first of all the V10 cost way more, and i guess you haven seen the list i wouldn't get that car til spring 2010.

  • why would I have seen the list? a year is worth it in my book but whatever to each his own, he who has the money thusly has the power

  • R8 on the waiting list.... lol Where, in GT4? :)

  • first of all the is no R8 in GT4 except the LeMans Race car ans second of all i got a REAL R8 on Sunday. In yo face. what do you drive?

    Steelers stil suck. (Da Bears!!!)

  • Well, seeing that you have the REAL R8 now, you'll upload a video, right? Do like a little walk-around, show us the features that it has

  • yea, make a vid of your imaginary r8! BTW, r8s are nice and all but theyre not THAT great. you must have no life at all to go and reply on youtube bragging about your shit. gth

  • Yeah you don't have a "REAL R8" because you type like your uneducated, and really a waiting list, all your fat ass waits on is McDonald's.

  • tbh if you can afford an R8, thats your privilege to brag about it- you earnt it. forget the jelous haters in their mondeos and vectras

  • FAKKEEE you dont got SH*T

  • ure all stupid.. have a look on autotrader and u can get one for less than 20,000quid...

  • beautiful car!

  • this car wasn't made for the corners but im sure it would walk all over ur cars on the highway

  • i was going to buy one of these, but couldnt justify spending so little money on it...

  • Too expensive, and doens't sounds good. The new 6.2 V8 sounds awesome !

  • red or yellow looks better than silver for this car

  • the other car's a jaguar?

  • shut up dumbass it is an epic looking car! just not that good at corners :P

  • the only down side of that amazing machine is weight

  • Uhmm...what about the price??? :) Definitely cannot call that an upside LOL

  • Mercedes are always overpriced and ugly. The new model looks a lot better.

  • if the cl is ugly to u then what do u consider fine?

    the car looks incredible men!

  • Fuck the green party. "green" is just the new "red" from the cold war era.

  • .... Germany did do nothing in the cold war, west germany and east germany had tough times, I think if you try and learn history you'll know red is the colour of soviet russia.

  • I was BORN in the USSR you dope. The green party is just another socialist organization hiding behind their "environmental concerns."

  • Mercedes the best !!

  • top gear is the best

  • the top speed is limited because of the green party in germany

  • Yeh but do you really expect every manufacturer in Germany to comply with the green party?

The BMW M5 and M6 are capable of 200MPH+ if you take the limiter off...

  • cl65 is capable of well above 200mph with the limiter of

  • Cha0sLord93 the cl65 is also capable of going well over 200mph if u take the limiter off. almost all the german cars are elecronicaly limited.

  • ohh i hate the green party!

  • WOW what the Germans do with their cars is genius, they have the number one economy in europe lol btw Mercedes aren't for everybody

  • Well, Merc has here in Germany of being a manufacturer for old wealthy men. I also do not think that this Mercedes is particullary good, it simply does not handle well around the track and besides the looks are just horrible.

I think that the Audi RS6 or the BMW M6 are way better cars than this and they alos look a lot better, not to mention the image.

However if you do want a German car that comes close to a racing car you will have to go with Porsche imo.

  • Yes, yes, great advice from someone who has NOT driven the CL65, the RS6, the M6, or the 911...

  • Precisely! The important (and lets not forget expensive)engineering work is done in Japan.

Once the design is fool proof enough, and there's no way in hell the Americans can screw things up Toyota lets them build the models (mostly aimed at US market). Just so that you guys can feel a bit better about yourselves whilst your plutocracy rape you up the pooper and pillage your land.

  • idiots who dont know a thing about this car, and have never even driven one, have no right to say it sucks.

  • but wait till it gets on a straight line

  • omg, im looking at the comments and they're all rlly long paragraphs that have nothing to do with the vid. well, soem do i guess. how pathetic

  • random question but what is the stig listening to..does anyone know the artist?...

  • sounds like porn music

  • just what i was thinking

  • Dude, I'm giving you times recorded by Road & Track and Car & Driver magazines: both got Z06 to do quarter mile in 11.7 s (Motor Trend got 11.6 I just found). Now these guys KNOW how to test cars, they r PROS and if they get 11.7 +/- 0.1s, then thats what it is! WTF r u trying to prove? I gave u that Dragtimes website just so u can see that 10.8 aint possible with a stock Z06. Dang, just accept it: CL65 CAN compete with a Z06 and there ain't nothing stupid about it!

  • Ed> The guys at R&T and C&D, while great, don't really get all that much cockpit time in the cars they test/review. People who own/race them do. Again, go to dragtimes, click on COMPARE and compare the Z06 with the AMG of your choice. Be sure to click the "stock" checkbox. You'll see a STOCK Z06, driven by Ranger, did 10.856 in 2006. There's even a picture. Hell, there's even vids of Ranger and his Z06 here on YouTube. CL65 can't run with the Z06 on the strip. Stupid race.

  • Ed> The only thing which might be throwing a wrench in here is the possibility (probable, actually) that the Ranger time was done on drag radials. Still, as far as the mechanical portion of the car, it was stock. I wouldn't be surprised if there are any number of AMGs with drag radials on dragtimes as well.

  • Yes, but you forget something else: on a dragstrip, they give you a start and then time you, ergo your reaction time is important and I've seen amateurs race at PIR and some REALLY sucked with their reaction time (some took over 0.5 second). So again, how can you trust an amateur to produce good results? There are too many factors. The only way to be sure is to trust professional drivers who are UNBIASED and just do their job. Sorry mate, dragtimes website is not a resource that IMO is accurate

  • And yes, he did have radials on, so yeah, possible that he shaved off a second off of a quarter mile time. BTW, there really are no stock CL65 AMGs that I saw on that site. So do me a favor: find me 3 REPUTABLE sources that support your theory and then I'll give you credit for what you are saying. Otherwise, I'm done arguing with you because I provided reliable info to you and I proved that CL65 can run right beside the Z06. Have a nice day

  • 1. The Z06 is faster than the SL65. The SL65 is faster than the fat@ss CL65. The SL65 can be referenced at dragtimes. The Z06 can be referenced at dragtimes. The Z06, therefore, is faster than the CL65. If this simple logic escapes you, there's little hope for you or your progeny.

  • Don't insult my inteligence with your witty comment. Using an inferior source that does not take into account the DR and reaction time to prove something is absolutely ridicilous. You are a stubborn dumb@ss who cannot get over his silly ego and actually prove something. Quoting a single source over and over again isn't how you prove a point. Let me guess, you have never graduated from a university, or even attended one, have you? Little hope for me? My @ss you jerk.

  • "intelligence". Also, there is a comma between "@ss" and "you jerk." Oh, the irony.

  • Ha ha, just adding to my impression that you are a moron. Going from talking about cars to grammar errors! Ha ha ha, I think you should find a life or a girlfriend to keep yourself at least somewhat busy. Oh, and while at it, how about attending a higher education school? But I must warn you - you will never be able to argue about a point in a paper by just referencing to one source! Ouch, maybe you shouldn't even try... Aigh? LOL

  • ed> Furthermore, I can argue a point in a paper by referencing a complete set of data. Most papers do this. Dragtimes has presented me with a fine collection of data points. The raw data is there. As far as your magazine sources, what are the data points again? Hmmmm? What? You don't know because they didn't present them? WHAT? Well, everyone knows that a good journal paper actually presents the raw data. Perhaps we shouldn't be using magazine sources then? (Two can play this game.)

  • What are you talking about? Have you actually looked at them?!?!?!?! They give you ALL THE SPECS! They even post the hand-written 'raw data' sheets. Look it up! And BTW, I was emphasizing on a fact that papers reference MANY sources, not one. My paper in English had 12 sources, all different, yet leading to the same conclusion. Please apply the same principle here - find stuff outside dragtimes with pros testing. I did!

  • You're an English Major who can't spell or use correct punctuation? Furthermore, you give me a "raw data" sheet with one data point? This is supposed to impress or sway my opinion? Good luck in uni, kid.

  • R u retarded? Rhetorical question. I know you are. I never said I'm an English major. But if you would be in a university you'd know that you have to take a variety of classes for any degree (English is just one of the GE courses). Back on subject: one data point from one source. Look at other sites as well you lazy bum.

  • If you're not an English major, I'd ask you to consider adding more English to your uni plans.

That said, dragtimes represents a wide number of independent sources and many data points. Perhaps taking a statistics course or an experimental design course would be helpful to you as well?

  • Thanks, I'm good - got all my English finished with flying colors. Yes, independent sources, sure enough, but how reliable? See, you just don't get it - I know it has many data points (as you put it) but ACCURACY is what is in question here. Maybe you should take an intro to basic research - maybe you will learn something about academic vs non-academic sources and how some are arguably better than others.

  • ed> I know the difference between academic and non-academic sources. Last I checked, MAGAZINES are not academic sources, champ. As far as why and how some sources are better than others, dragtimes presents a dataset. You suspect something wrong with the dataset and you've explained why you feel this way. Fine. I don't agree and I've explained why. So, we'll agree to disagree. End of story, we go on about our merry ways.

  • Ok, fine, we agree to disagree. BTW, just for the record, ever heard of the Science magazine? Well if you haven't, now you have, and it actually is an academic source, ergo magazines can be academic sources.

  • Good luck putting "Science" on a scientific research paper. You'll get a note back from your prof (if he's worth anything) to get off your ass and find the journal article. NO. Magazines are secondary sources and are CRAP for hard-science research papers as well as most soft-science papers.

  • Don't be retarded because you clearly do not know that "Science" magazine is peer-reviewed, ergo it is an academic source. I work in a drug addiction lab where we publish papers (mainly, we study drug effects on rats and cell cultures) and to get published in "Science" magazine is incredibly hard because there is a rigorous process through witch all papers submitted have to be peer-reviewed by other scientists. So how about you STFU because you clearly do not know what you are talking about.

  • My mistake. For some reason, I was thinking about Popular Science, which most definitely is a magazine. I admit my error. However, I'd argue that Science is more akin to a journal than to a magazine and even if we were to say Science is a magazine, I can't think of a single other magazine that is considered a primary source.

  • Actually, thinking a little bit more, I think Nature had ads for assorted crap it it as well. Okay. So BESIDES Nature and Science. heh. :)
