  • What a surprise, a Genesis clip that ends up in a discussion about old vs. new. Well, if you don't like Phil Collins-era Genesis, then WHAT are you doing here? Just go away and take your venom, hate and whatever else you have with you, it's boring, we don't care (anymore) about it.

  • Holy shit - He said "orientated". Phil, you're English! You should have a better grasp of the English language!

  • I just hate the Collins era of Genesis

  • @anonymusum so you hate A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering too

  • @Kruegerisgod

Ok - you´re right, those were albums somewhere in the middle. But not to compare with the Gabriel era.

  • @anonymusum I am a fan of both those albums and a fan of Phil Era of Genesis and Peter's Era but I can see why you don't like Phil's Era. I disagree with you on those albums but I respect your opinion. My favorite are with Pete too you know

  • @Kruegerisgod

I guess their development was just logical. They lost Gabriel and Hackett as musicians and composers. Phil doesn´t have that special Gabriel intensity and Rutherford´s guitar - well lets talk about something different.....

  • wow this song sounds like asshole

  • Interesting conversation going on here, the usual "which is better, Pete or Phil". Speaking for myself, Tony is the sound of Genesis, and you can hear his influence all the way through from Peter to Phil to Ray. So I say all eras are successful. All had their greatness, yes, even IT. "The Brazilian", anyone? "Domino"? "Dividing Line"? Heck, the Gabriel era had both genius and iffy songs. "In The Beginning" could have been written during Phil's time, if you want sentimentalism.

  • I always felt that 'We cant dance' was a much better album than Invisible Touch, which was a real low point for the band, although 11 million album sales would suggest Joe Public disagreed. Fair play each to their own, but I tought generally they were at their best with Hackett on guitar. The Gabriel era was fantastic, but I think Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering are two of their best albums. By that point they were at their best as musicians and were working with a great producer.

  • @WarrenCromartie2 Agreed. I am a staunch believer that Phil Collins is the devil. jk, but I do hate him, it's probably because I was named after him and I resent him for that.

Their first two albums with Collins were still quite experimental and (SOMEWHAT) enjoyable. I actually just saw the tribute band The Musical Box do a show of that material. I've been thinking lately that, although Collins was obviously a large part of it, that the change in sound had more to do with the era changing.

  • hahaha tony banks is very funny

  • amazing song from a great band

  • stop complaining about 90s and 80s.....gosh!!!!!! what about 00s.?????

  • Genesis with Peter Gabriel singing=Amazing

    This= Repulsive

  • @LAYNESTALEYISAGOD Bullshit, them with Collins, Rutherford and Banks was the best thing that happened to the band, and the sales show that

  • @AshArcherMusic So you're saying songs like I Can't Dance, and No Son of Mine, are good songs becuase they might have been commercially successful? There comes a point in an artist's career where they have to choose between Commercial success, and Artistic integrity. We can tell what Collin's era genesis chose. I will admit that their early work still had some residual artistic merit from the Gabriel years, but their later works are a complete and utter disgrace.

  • @LAYNESTALEYISAGOD no im saying before And then there were three, Genesis was shit

  • @AshArcherMusic You are saying that their more artistic and groundbreaking endeavors are shit. You're saying that Foxtrot is shit? that Supper's Ready is shit?

Those first albums with Gabriel were some of the most important Pog-rock albums of all time. Those albums helped influence an entire genre. What did invisible touch do?

I thought you were just a fan of the Collins era before, now I know that you're just an idiot.

  • @LAYNESTALEYISAGOD naw man, just a diehard fan of the Collins era... not denying the importance of those albums for the pogressive rock era... i more meant that compared to their later stuff, it doesnt sit with me well... preferred Gabriel as a solo artist, sledgehammer was a gr8 song... and its not what a song does, its what a song means, and Invisible Touch was a worldwide hit

  • @AshArcherMusic Peter Gabriel Solo is incredible. As a solo artist, he has always been at the forefront of new technology and sounds. Regardless of their voice, and the style of music, you must admit that as a lyricist, Gabriel was better than Collins.

  • @LAYNESTALEYISAGOD tough one... i reckon as a solo artist, collins had some great moments, but he had lots of dull ones too, where he became a slow crooner similar to that of Lionel Richie (altho Richie is also good sometimes)... Gabriel i reckon is an amazing solo artists, but i just like the direction Genesis went after Gabriel's time... i reckon Collins writes his best stuff in Genesis where Rutherford and Banks are there to stop him becoming a crooner :P

  • @AshArcherMusic Yeah, see. That's the problem I have with Phil Collins. Everything has to be a sappy love song. My mom made me go to his farewell concert. I couldn't stand the cheesiness.

Basically, it seems as if you tend to go for more of the poppy genesis, and I go for the more experimental, winded cuts from the earlier albums. They are basically 2 different bands in my opinion. Let's call a truce, sound good, Pal?

  • @LAYNESTALEYISAGOD i couldnt have said it better myself. I went to that concert as well, and was disappointed. Truce it is :D

  • @LAYNESTALEYISAGOD ..actually at both of you having the truce..Genesis isn't "different" era to era..compare "Driving The Last Spike" or "Home By The Sea" to the epics from Peter's time like "Suppers Ready" or "Cinema Show". The reason is that they all collaberated, all of their solo stuff is very different..no sappy love songs by Genesis, I guess the closest was "Hold On My Heart". It's all brilliant, fantastic music and thoughtful emotion provoking lyrics..imo best band there ever was.

  • phil collins dudnt play the father he just sang the song and it's called no son of mine

  • I know there was a regular music video made of this song, but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone post a link for the actual video?

  • PHIL ROCKZ!!!

  • Thanks for posting this, was cool.. thank you

  • :54 scares the shit out of me!!!!

  • Why lol?

  • his face, like the way he reacted lol

  • @KP258 ha!!! ;) i love the look on his face!!

  • Tony que bomboncito que sos!!!!

    I Love You

  • phil doesnt act in this video, he just sings lol, theres another guy playing the father.

  • wow I cannot believe this is when phil still had hair when we see him now he just gone bald

  • I think Phil's acting is very convincing in this video - in the role of the abusive father.

  • Any 80s Genesis fan interested in learning more about the band's progressive roots in the 70s should do a youtube search keywords "Genesis - Six Hours Live" for details about the new double live DVD highlighting the Peter Gabrie/Steve Hackett years

  • Yes! Both era's of the band are incredible. If you like one, get to know the other!

  • God, the 80s were horrible.

  • What makes you say that?

  • What a blah! The 80s were FANTASTIC!!!

  • Er, shame this is the 90's...

  • This is from the 90's

  • Actually this is from thee early '90 - not the '80.

  • Thanks for uploading, MeanAuntie.
