1) Wilson-CF 2) Beltran-RF 3) Brett-3B 4) Bo Jackson-LF 5)Sweeney/Mayberry-1B 6) McRae-DH 7) White-2B 8) Porter-C 9) Patek-SS Bench- Seitzer, McFarlane, Otis, Butler, anyone else not named Angel Berroa or Tony Pena Jr. Rotation- Saberhagen, Cone, Splittorff, Greinke, Appier Bullpen- Montgomery, Tom Gordon, Hrbosky, Quisenberry, Soria Yes, only ten pitchers, these 12 and 13 man staffs nowadays are stupid. Tempted to go with 4 starters, decided on 5.
Oh man a lifetime .326 OBP leadoff hitter woo-hoo. Hal McRae in right? Seriously? Out of the 1837 games he played for the Royals only 84 were playing in RF. He was mostly a DH. Amos Otis was the CF and Willie Wilson was the LF when they played together.
I would definately bat Big John Mayberry cleanup. It's good that you remembered him being an early Royal into our earliest playoff games. He was probably our all time best true power hitter. A case could be made for Bo Jackson too but he just didn't play long enough. A real shame as I would like to have seen him develop base stealing skills.
Dennis Leonard, Bret Saberhagen, Paul Splittorff, Steve Busby, and Mark Gubicza would be my rotation with Jeff Montgomery and Dan Quissenberry in the pen.
First off, if you are going to put Otis in the lineup (which I have no problem with), he plays center. Wilson should be in left which was the order they actually played for most of their time (1976-1983). Darrell Porter should be the catcher. McFarlane was fine but Porter was almost AL MVP in '79.
My premise is based primarily on the DH rule. Scenario: Willie gets on base...he steals second base and sometimes third base. A RBI is basically waiting for Brett who still has a bat in his hand at home plate. Plus Patek is a solid hitter in the nine spot. Brett would hit .340 and drive in 125 runs either way. If Brett played in the National League...the 3 spot would be a better option. But I understand your point. Historically he has batted third. Are you a Royals fan? If so, Congrats.
I am actually a Yankee supporter but first a baseball fan first. I remember as a young boy how Brett used to kill the Yanks in several playoff meetings. I go back following MLB around 1981-82. You make good argument OP but i have to disagree.
I would bat Frank White 2nd and George on your all time KC team.
No offense to Phillies fans but Geroge Brett 'pound-pound' was the best 3rd baseman i seen in my life, both offense and defense. Schmidt was also great.
Why isn't Carlos Beltran on this team? He is a 5 tool player.

Brett should be hitting cleanup. I can give you 1,595 reasons why. I would also have Sweeney bat 3rd and Jackson 5th.

McFarlane over Porter???? Huh??? Plus, where is Bo Jackson??? This list is screwed up

Definitely missing Bo Jackson . . . Danny Tartabull had a pretty good bat, too, as I recall

Why would you not have George Brett batting in his normal spot third?

I too think Darrell Porter is the catcher.

@OPSportsInc who cares about scenerios, and premises, GEORGE BATS 3RD DAMMIT, END OF STORY

OP what i mean 'jerks' of course i mean A rod, McGuire, Sosa, Bonds, Clemens, etc.
They ruined the legit records for great players from 1970'/80's like Brett, Schimdt, Reggie Jackson, Andre Dawson, Rod Carew, Joe Morgan, etc.

brett saberhagen not paul splittorf

It was a close call. Saberhagen would make the all-time Royals starting rotation. I'm working on those montages. Stay tuned.

i think saberhagen had a better career for the Royals
