Citizens of Nebraska can carry with a permit. The mall was (and still is) a "Gun Free Zone." The only people that can lawfully defend themselves are those that choose to violate the mall management group's "no weapons" policy. Of course, the smart choice would be to avoid spending money at any anti-gun establishment, then write a letter to the management group explaining why you are taking your shopping dollars elsewhere.
Totally different situation. The main difference is the Hollywood shooters were engaging the police where the POS in Omaha went after civilians since there would be less (if any) resistance. This is why most active shooter incidents occur where it is unlikely that their victims are able to defend themselves. Would I have engaged the Hollywood shooters? Given the scenario and the odds that I would have had access to the rifle in my truck, then hell yes. With a pistol? Maybe.

I live in Omaha. That was a very scary day. I was in English class at school (which is about 2 miles up the street) when my principal announced there was a "situation" at Westroads Mall. I, being the curious person I am, went online. This is the worst thing that's happened here in my lifetime. Things like that never happen here.

Someone's gotta say this, and I don't care if it's an unpopular opinion: I feel bad for this kid. People die everyday but the idea of people living and being miserable (like he was) disturbs me even more.
The world gave him the finger. His family, his girlfriend (I hope she's feeling guilty) and his employers. Why should someone who's treated like that by the world abide by it's rules?
