@Saberq1 sorry i meant to say i will admit he is better than rafa, Federer is the greatest right now, he is obviously not going to be the greatest forever, just a decade ago Sampras was considered the greatest now it roger, so federer time will soon come to an end so.....
@Saberq1 the fact is that someone is going to come along and beat this guys record, whether in the next four or in the next fifty years, its still going to happen, and you dont have to have mediocre opponents to do it, you just have to be the best, federer didnt have mediocre opponents when he reached his record, your acting like he wins in three straight sets every time he is in a final..
@Saberq1 Federer hit the trifecta!!! Hence why Rafa to many experts are on par with Federer, because even though he has less grand slams, however all his grand slams was won when Federer was considered the "greatest of all time", that is what makes Nadal's 10 grand slams so impressive compared to Federer's 16.
People who solely look at numbers don't know the game well enough, it's that simple.
@den525 Well man I watch tennis for 30 years and I will tell you that Federer is the best I ever seen.....Rafa in my opinion is not even top 10 regardless of his success.....
@Saberq1 Just because you've watched tennis for 30 years doesn't mean you know what you are talking about. Federer is #1... Rafa is not even in the top 10... shows how much you know, pure bs and bias. Federer is a great player, one of the best, and so is rafa.
Federer's greatness comes from being consistent and basically having a flawless game. Nadal's greatness (even at 10 grand slams) comes from his dominance over Federer and his ability and record. 2x FO and Wim double, olypmic gold, fed?
@den525 When Nadal defends non clay title plays 5 times in a final of each GS wins something besides RG 4 or more times and plays without cheating aka medical timeouts before TB then he can be considered one of the best....He Nadal is a fluke great player but still......I see you are his blind fan and I respect that but Federer is the greatest......Djokovic is going to reverse his H2H against Rafa and what will your excuse be then?
@den525 well if you want to throw out the statistics, Federer has won an Olympic Gold Medal in DOUBLES which is pretty impressive since he hardly EVER plays doubles. Btw, he still has a chance to get gold for the 2012 Olympics in London. He has a career grand slam, the most majors, reached 10 straight major finals, reached the SF of majors 23 straight times, reached the QF 29 straight times, and from 2005-2010 has been in 18/19 major finals...I guess thats not good enough to be a great huh?
@federer1116 Stop wasting my time. Did I say Federer is not great? No. There are too many douchebag fans! The knowledge of Federer's fans seem so low nowadays, i guess that is what you'd expect from a bunch of glory hunters. No one said anything bad about Federer's consistency or achievements. Federer fans only care about the number GS titles, you guys probably don't even watch Tennis regularly and don't realise there are other players out there. Ps. No offense to the real supporters out there.
@den525 to be honest bro. Federer is the GOAT . Nadal is a great player and he has a game specific to beat Federer on Clay. Yes, he has had success on Federer but that has to do with Federer's age as well. If you see, Federer is a better OVERALL player. Let me give you a small example. Nadal has a zero record against djokovic this year but Federer beat djokovic. Similarly, davydenko has a winning record against rafa federer does not...so Nadal is GOAT on clay only.
@xcoollynch Please to pick and choose what you want to compare. Nadal has a game to beat Federer on ANY surface and he has proven that. Federer's age, are you joking? He is only 29, he Nadal has been beating him for several years why Federer was still in his prime!!! Federer has the better OVERALL game, i didn't deny that, but having the best game doesn't mean you are the best, there are many other factors, such as mentality, fitness etc. Bringing Djokovic into the equation is just pointless.
@xcoollynch There is a BIG difference, you are bending the truth/bias towards Federer and i'm simply stating the facts. I'm a fan of both players, but i'm sick and tired of federer fan's (not necessarily you) rating him as the best ever and ignoring the facts that he is not the best in his generation, and has a bad record against his rival of that generation. I don't get why people bring in head2head records of other players, when they are not part of the consideration.
@den525 no offence buddy but just cuz if some things seem right to you. doesn't mean they are right. We will talk when nadal gets 16 GS. I am also not a NADAL hater and I clearly agree that he is a great player. King of Clay if you will. but Nadal doesn't have the class that Federer has, not the variety that Federer has. Nothing. He is just a runner and will retire earlier . Secondly, he doesn't even have the consistency as Federer. Sampras /Mcenroe, Borg all tip federer as GOAT .R they mad?
@den525 I've been a supporter of Federer since 2001 when he beat Sampras at Wimbledon. In the end, people will remember Federer, Nadal, Djokovic along with the other past greats for THEIR MAJOR TITLES not HEAD TO HEAD RECORDS. How many times do they bring up the past greats head to head rivalry record? None. How many times do they mention the majors they won? A lot. I'm not being a smartass, its simply the truth, that's all people will care about when greats like Federer and Nadal are mentioned
@federer1116 lol@supporter since 2001. People who don't understand Tennis enough, will only focus on the # of majors aka you. People don't talk about head to head records? are you joking? Evert vs Navratilova, Navratilova has an amazing record of 10 vs 4 in majors. Agassi vs Sampras, both greats, but Sampras won 4 in 5 major finals. ALL the greats get compared to their rivals, tell me a great who doesn't have equal or better record compared to their rival? Especially in big matches. Only Fededer
@den525 ya see on the stat u just said about Evert and Navratilova: 1) ur probably the ONLY one that knows that stat by heart. 2) nobody cares about that. Both great players, yes. I don't think Federer will be the GOAT forever, there will be another great player that will win more majors, its gonna happen. Federer is a great, Nadal is a great. Bottom line. And I will consider Nadal to be the GOAT if he surpasses Federer's record, which be probably will. end of story.
Rafa was not injured. Soderling outplayed him. Every time Nadal loses Nadal fans say he was injured. Give credit to the winner and don't whine about injuries. Federer never gives excuses he always gives credit to opponent when he loses.
John Mcenroe is the greatest commentator in the world in any sport.. "Listen, I just wanna say as a fellow tennis player that it´s a priviliage to be standing next to u, here to witness (?) when u finally do this, it´s well deserved u´re a class actor and I hope u keep playing for many more years. The great, great Roger Federer, the greatest of all time!" epic...
i am a Nadal fan. i love the way Nadal plays, he plays with heart and soul, with emotion. Federer is more like a robot. Federer is classic, he is the king. i like Fed, but i love Nadal. if Nadal is not playing, i am not watching.
Lefty players are always over rated they say lefty have better top spin. I think it's bull. Doesn't matter if you are a lefty or a righty. If you hit the ball right, you WILL generate heavy top spin, just like Roj.
Federer will be a more loved and remembered champion than Nadal will ever reach.. 1 million times more
ask why crowds in paris love roger and boo Nadal when he lost
i'm not saying Nadal deserves that reaction but his over celebrating for many years is a pain in the ass trait of his and there are under lying smug arrogance about his camp and the spanish media/fans
Greatest tennis player of all time, a true gentleman, a devoted family man, all-round nice guy, picture-perfect role model for young players and tennis fans everywhere... This guy really is God's gift to tennis. Everyone remember these days, because we will never see anyone like him again.
Not surprised that some bitter Rafa fans are coming here trying to take away from Roger's amazing win. The ppl who say Roger won by 'default' obviously didn't see the Haas or Del Potro match. It was a well deserved win. If you still have doubts on who the GOAT is, ask Sampras, McEnroe, Laver, Aggasi, and Borg. They all say Roger.

The Injury happened in ROME. GOT WORSE IN MADRID, THEN THE WHEELS CAME OFF IN PARIS. NADAL HAS BEEN CRITICAL OF THE ATP SCHEDULE FOR YEEARS! OK. Face it 4X French Open Championships. Your gonna take FED Over Nadal on Clay Okkayyy?
Nadal will never be dominant on Clay either anymore now that the Soderling's, Del Potro's and Cilic's have finally arrived! They totally neutralize Nadals high top-spin balls because of their physique and strength!
Hamburg 2007?.. ohhh let me guess Rafa was injured too, isn´t it?. Pathetic. I hate when Rafa Fans put the same excuse, over and over. I am not denying that in fact Rafa had problems , but that´s the consecuence of his game´s philosophy.Roger is class and elegance, pure talent, he don´t need run like a cheetah to win tournaments, he simply moves so swift and smoothly, the perfect movement economy.
I agree with most of what you said. Roger is so fluid very great player. I just like Rafa's rugged style and as far as Nadal I think all the tennis players would agree that the ATP has way too many matches played in the year. It is a catch 22 because if Roger or Rafa were to skip some tournaments they will drop in the rankings which none of the top players on tour want to do.
Rafa was indeed exhausted during the Hamburg final but Roger played brilliantly in the match as well, so it's tough to say who wouldve won. You said "he (Rog) doesn't need to run like a cheetah to win tournaments". What does a person's particular style have to with winning lol. Either you win or you don't, whatever works, dont discriminate against a players game because its not a style you enjoy. Im a Roger fan but Ive always respected Rafa & his abilities as well.
You´are right. I am not beig fair with rafa. He is a great tennis player and a nice guy, and i was impulsive in my last comment, but like a fedfan i was really angry with the nadalfans who always make excuses.
It's tough, it's a great rivalry not only because of the contrasting styles but because both players have loyal fan bases. At times, however, it seems like theres little respect given to the other man. Nadal fans sometimes tend to make excuses, he's hurt, his knees and so on, and sometimes it gets tiring. However, Fed fans used to make excuses during his mono days saying hes not at full gear. In the end, I hope Rafa gets healthy so I can see more battles bc theres nothing like a Fed-Nadal final
A) Fed fans are true. Most Nadal fans are girls who like his looks. Nadal is great but to directly insult Federer by saying Nadal (overall) is better than Fed (when speaking about careers) is just a joke
B) Nadal fans seem to live in some magical word where Federer didnt break almost every record ever set in tennis history.
So that's why. Nadal is GREAT, Fed is GOAT. In 30 years people wont be asking who Federer beat to complete his career slam or who he played in any slam finals. Enjoy it
you have it mixed up, nadal fans hate federer fans. and wodz30 is right nadal is GREAT but Federer is the GOAT. and nadal fans just have to deal with it.
@Saberq1 Destroying? A few masters finals and a grand slam final wins is NOT destroying. Djokovic is on top of his game without a doubt, but a few months of dominance is not destroying. Let's not forget, Nadal did beat Djokovic at the US open last year, he also won the French this year. He might not be winning every single grand slam, however, he is not exactly getting destroyed.
@den525 well nadal is a great player. But he's in his prime. look at federer, now he's on his way out. It seems as if Nadal might have trouble getting to Federer's record as Djokovic has beaten Nadal the past 5 times. You can't have a winning record against EVERY single person on tour, it's just not possible. Laver, Emerson, Aggasi, Sampras and all the other greats had losing head to head records to at least ONE person. Ya, Nadal is better than federer, but nadal can't be the GOAT with 10 majors
@federer1116 Why do Federer fans always use Federer being "on his way out" he is still playing very good tennis, just because he is not beating everyone, doesn't mean he is not on top of his game. As for Nadal losing 5 times to Djokovic, that was within a few months, Nadal still made it to the finals of all those finals, apart from this year we haven't seen Djokovic being this consistent, there is along way to go before that. All the greats have a winning record against their rivals.
RafaNadal08 you say you "really" like Fed, and yet you keep ranting about how Nadal had Federer "crying like a baby" and keep discrediting his well deserved victory at Roland Garros. Jesus Christ, grow up, and stop being an immature Nadal-freak.
Then why do you keep ranting about it like a fucking baby? Everybody knows what happened; do you have a purpose in repeating it again and again? If you like both players, you haven't shown it.
He broke down because of the fans response to him when they shouted "we love you Roger". it was emotional for him.
Plus Rod Laver presented him the trophy. He has cried twice when presented with a trophy (once in victory and once in defeat) and both times Laver gave it to him. He respects the game.
Imagine playing in a stadium called Rod Laver Arena, and Rod Laver hands you a trophy. i would cry to.
"..because you cant be in every grand slam final" LMFAO, unless your name is Roger Federer....it is beyond hilarious for him to say that hahahahahaha... so classic already.
but now there's no more question... HE IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!... even if Nadal has his number... he will never get even close to all of his records... and They call him Fedex... because he always.... DELIVERS!!
@roter13 And Andy Roddick even called out a lot of the "experts." Same with James Blake who said(about Roger in 2008), "If getting to a semi, 2 finals, and winning the US Open is a bad year, I'll take that year," or something to that effect.

He is a great tennis player and a nice guy, and i was impulsive in my last comment, but like a fedfan i was really angry with the nadalfans who always make excuses.
bragunovskoie 2 years ago 3
It's tough, it's a great rivalry not only because of the contrasting styles but because both players have loyal fan bases. At times, however, it seems like theres little respect given to the other man. Nadal fans sometimes tend to make excuses, he's hurt, his knees and so on, and sometimes it gets tiring. However, Fed fans used to make excuses during his mono days saying hes not at full gear. In the end, I hope Rafa gets healthy so I can see more battles bc theres nothing like a Fed-Nadal final
tikealpzyx 2 years ago
@RafaNadal08 that is the thing, he never actually seems to be "healthy"
DLPBurke 2 years ago 8
I guess so but I hope he does get healthy because Fed and Nadal in the final is pure magic!

I really like Fed Nadal is my favorite player but I just don't understand why most Fed fans dislike Nadal fans? Two great players don't get it.
RafaNadal08 2 years ago
A) Fed fans are true. Most Nadal fans are girls who like his looks. Nadal is great but to directly insult Federer by saying Nadal (overall) is better than Fed (when speaking about careers) is just a joke
B) Nadal fans seem to live in some magical word where Federer didnt break almost every record ever set in tennis history.
So that's why. Nadal is GREAT, Fed is GOAT. In 30 years people wont be asking who Federer beat to complete his career slam or who he played in any slam finals. Enjoy it

exactly
federer1116 2 years ago 8
you have it mixed up, nadal fans hate federer fans. and wodz30 is right nadal is GREAT but Federer is the GOAT. and nadal fans just have to deal with it.
federer1116 2 years ago 42
@federer1116 If Federer is the GOAT... what do you call the guy who consistently outplay and beat the GOAT???
den525 8 months ago
@den525 Djokovic is destroying Rafa in his prime so what's your answer
Saberq1 7 months ago
@Saberq1 Destroying? A few masters finals and a grand slam final wins is NOT destroying. Djokovic is on top of his game without a doubt, but a few months of dominance is not destroying. Let's not forget, Nadal did beat Djokovic at the US open last year, he also won the French this year. He might not be winning every single grand slam, however, he is not exactly getting destroyed.
den525 7 months ago
@den525 well nadal is a great player. But he's in his prime. look at federer, now he's on his way out. It seems as if Nadal might have trouble getting to Federer's record as Djokovic has beaten Nadal the past 5 times. You can't have a winning record against EVERY single person on tour, it's just not possible. Laver, Emerson, Aggasi, Sampras and all the other greats had losing head to head records to at least ONE person. Ya, Nadal is better than federer, but nadal can't be the GOAT with 10 majors
federer1116 7 months ago

I like tennis dude. Ok I like both player but it was true he did break down at the Aussie Open. Am I dead wrong dude?
RafaNadal08 2 years ago
Then why do you keep ranting about it like a fucking baby? Everybody knows what happened; do you have a purpose in repeating it again and again? If you like both players, you haven't shown it.
Sonic2710 2 years ago 4

Wodz30 2 years ago 13
Just shows how humble a guy he is... Simply the best player ever... but on top of it he is a great human being...
satishsatishiyer 2 years ago 5
Exactly, he's called the 'Federer Express' because he always delivers.
928vamoskata 2 years ago 15
but now there's no more question... HE IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!... even if Nadal has his number... he will never get even close to all of his records... and They call him Fedex... because he always.... DELIVERS!!

And just to top it all he is Number 1 again...

"people starting to doubt you" john mcenroe was one of those people doubting him

John mcenroe is a fan of Roger.

yeah but he was still doubting federer. eveyone did except sampras
roter13 2 years ago 5
@roter13 And Andy Roddick even called out a lot of the "experts." Same with James Blake who said(about Roger in 2008), "If getting to a semi, 2 finals, and winning the US Open is a bad year, I'll take that year," or something to that effect.
