Hmm, I wonder if most school districts have part-time, non-unionized but paid crossing guards. Oh, they do! Why do I get the impression that Kleefisch hasn't organized a bake sale, nevermind organizing volunteers willing to patrol intersections at 6:45 a.m. in January in Wisconsin.

the laws we have in place to protect workers don't do a thing to help. mainly because no body enforce's them. on the other hand i have seen situation's when the union didn't help either. I don't mind that someone has the right to negotiate their wages. how could I argue against that. In one county here in wisconsin they had to pay double to have their street markers painted because of scotts new law that said they could only hire contractors instead of paying their own

In Green Bay, collective bargaining has negotiated a nice little perk that most private citizens don't get: it allowed teachers to retire and work only 10 days a year and get 1/3 of their full pay. Guess what, this past fall 140 teachers/administrators in Green Bay chose that option. All at taxpayer expense

For those that don't know, Wisconsin is one of the more heavily taxed states in the country. We had to BORROW money from Minnesota to make our last few budgets.

To all the kool-aid drinking union sheeple: most of the places where the taxes went up are places where the socialist / leftist officials layed down to unions and promised to pay before the Budget Reform Act was even signed into law. The Budget Reform Act should NOT have left the police and fire unions out. It's not that the pollice and fire unions should be next, they should have never been allowed in the first place. The unions would have our state motto changed to BACKWARD if they could!

If you don't think unions help you, I have an idea for you. Go into your boss' office and tell them you want a pay raise. One of the first things they will say is that your pay is on average with simular jobs. in the area, thats becuase unions help increase overall pay. Your and my company may not be union but what would the teachers, prison guards, and your county workers be getting pay'd if they didn't have someone to back them up.

@mmeck175 Our schools and public workers are still union. They just have limits to their collective bargaining privileges. Taxpayers are affected by these policies, too, not just workers. If my taxes are raised any more, my family will leave WI.

That costs MORE than using government employees. She's obviously never had to live in an apartment, where the private contractor doesn't get there to clear until mid-afternoon; and you can't even get out of your lot for work in the morning.

@donna8982 Dirty politics come into play when the Unions use our tax dollars as campaign contributions to politicians running for office. Ending Collective Bargaining was not intended to end that as a whole, look how selective the GOP was about who Collective Bargaining ended for (police/fire dpt. donations?). The problem is with the lack of merit system. Also private corp. get gov. grants while lobbying using cash profit for deals you have little to no say in, so don't be selective.

This taxpayer is tired of paying for ridiculous things in collective bargaining such as viagra, stacked-sickpay, not being able to use volunteer crossing guards (many that dedicate their time to give back to their neighborhood) not being able to combine certain facility's that are hardly used, over-charged services, etc. Collective Bargaining is a privilege and it has been abused. TY for giving the public sector the freedom of choice to join or not.

The funniest thing about this video is that, after hearing her go on and on about "the government is...blahblahblah" ...you remember (if you have a working brain) that she's FROM THE GOVERNMENT! Congress is essentially a union as well. When was the last time you heard Congress as a whole vote to reduce their pay from the $150k+ each of them make to a more reasonable, say, 35k. Yes, I think our politicians should make less than the reviled teachers of this country.

The only difference is that instead of the money going to the low waged hard working employees it will go to those at the top that dont deserve it.
