  • During pre-production, this sequence was used as an audition scene for actors who were auditioning for the role of Winston. :)

  • Haha yeah, I love the music in this.

  • the fact that the world trade centre towers are still erect in this scene makes it even more creepy

  • @wimblewomble21 i know i saw that too...creepy

  • reminds me of the scene in the twilight zone movie where dan akroyd is like.. you wanna see somthing scary? haha

  • based on this scene, i think if you could remake Ghostbusters (only in theory). Seth Macfarlane would be good as Ray.

  • Am I the only one who watches this scene just for the music at 1:13?

  • Oh man, I get chills!

The dialogue along with the scenery and soundtrack truly gives the viewer a sense of foreboding. Something ominous and unknown is dawning in the horizon, can you feel it?

  • 1:26 every time i see the towers i get a little emotional.

  • I've never been able to explain it, but this is my favorite scene in my favorite movie of all time and now I know I'm not alone!

  • @durburgle Same as me - this scene has such gravitus. It is so good to know others feel the this way about this scene.

  • i was looking for this in my bible 7.12

  • There're only 12 tracks on the Ghostbusters OST. At least according to the one I found on Amazon. Is there any possible way to get the track that starts at 1:13?

  • @retrog33k

There's two soundtracks. The first was released with the movie. The second one contained lots of original music which had never been released on a soundtrack before. It was a limited edition, and the composer himself put it out. It was released a few years ago, and sold out like almost instantly. I don't know if that track is on it, but it might be.

  • @retrog33k i have seen song online. the part is only 20 sec long. its called ghostbusters bridge muisc.

  • There're only 12 tracks on the Ghostbusters OST. At least according to the one I found on Amazon. Is there any possible way to get the track that starts @ 1:13?

  • thank you! I've been searching for this for a long time ;)

  • I also have never met god, but I haven't met Aykroyd either, and I'd rather meet Aykroyd first...

  • The music from this scene is track 25 of the Ghostbusters Original Score by Elmer Bernstein. The title of the track is "Judgement Day."

  • This scene somewhat reminds me of those videos that have been popping up recently where people are hearing strange, trumpet like sounds coming from nowhere

  • They could use Rays line from this for a Ghostbusters 3 trailer.

  • What is that music?

  • This scene has always stuck in my my mind since I was a kid as well. Very atmospheric. What about the name of the song at the end of the scene? I could never ever find it.

  • This scene was always terrifying to me as a kid.

  • where did ray get the blue prints for a NYC skyscraper

  • @TURBODORK2 I believe records like that are kept at the city hall of most cities.

  • wow Ghostbusters has started a religious debate.

  • the person who made this video is gay period thats alll

  • Haha, judgment days supposed to be tommorow!

One of my favorite 80's films ;)

  • @sparkly358something That's just the latest 'dating' of the 'rapture' by the nutjobs. Remember when the Worldwide Church of God members were jumping up and down on the hoods of their cars? Scripture states that ONLY the Father - not even the Son - knows the day and the hour. Period.

  • This is the best scene, LOVE IT!

  • One of the most poignant scenes ever filmed. That look of realisation on Ray's face is perfectly timed. A moment of clarity and stillness in a world of shit. It captures the true horror of their circumstances in just a few words.

  • there's a raccord error in about 1:00

  • Being serious now BUT anyone else feel with Australia being hit with floods, new Zealand hit by earthquake and Japan being hit with a earthquake and now with a tsunami hitting more countries.

I mean anyone else feel THIS SCENE came to anyone's esle mind straight away as for me it did

  • @AbhiB Now that you mention it, there is alot connection with this scene, and what's been happening in reality in recent years. The natural disasters, the unstable global economy, war on terrorism, and everything else that has been occuring, it appears that we are INDEED coming close to Judgement Day.

  • That shot near the end of the intact world trade center is visually stunning, looking back at it.

  • 6 fools who dislike this are probably creaming over the just beiber movie rumours. Ghostbusters is my fave film of all time.

  • @86Stooy hey if justin beiber is in ghostbusters 3 i will refuse to watch it even if the original cast is in it

  • @hitch20000 i agree

  • @hitch20000 I would watch it if Justin Bieber died in the movie. That would be great!

  • Other than the misquote of Revelation 7:12, I love this scene. It's Revelation 6:12.

  • you're right, this is actually one of my favorite scenes from the movie, I loved the first one because it had alot of dark overtones, the second one was made more for kids!!!

  • I JUST LOOCKING FOR THIS SOUND !!!!!!! THANKSS THIS IS AMAZING!!!!

  • In many great stories there is a calm before the storm; this is a perfect illustration of that scenario. I won't bury this comment in details, but the feeling I get from watching this never fades.

  • REVS 7: 12 - Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, [be] unto our God for ever and ever. Amen

IT WAS 6-12 THEY MEANT TO SAY...

  • @Oeagrusson most bibles are under copyright (which is ridiculous) I've always wondered if that is the reason they said the wrong verses and made up a 2nd part of the verse (the seas boiled and the skys fell)

  • @theambassadors wow i never realised that was made up , what i remember mostly about Revelations is the devil arrives on earth and all nations fight him. the devil is a 4 headed dragon

  • @TURBODORK2 in revelation the antichrist arrives on earth and rules it through a one-world-government, THEN the devil possesses him and for the most part the nations are on his side until Jesus comes back and takes him down... with a proton pack (my translation)

  • @theambassadors Well to be fair, only Ray was quoting; Winston was just paraphrasing.

  • @Oeagrusson The mistake was likely intentional to make the scene more realistic. Since Ray is reciting the verse from the top of his head it's unlikely he would get every detail correct in reality.

  • This movie is considered a "comedy". But honestly, I think its one of the creepiest movies of all time. Sure, much of it is cheezy, and it does have its funny moments. The thing that makes is a legitimate scary movie is the ending (up until mr stay puft). The scene with Gozer crossing over on the sky scraper is one of the creepiest scenes of all time, realistic, and how I might imagine it happening. I would say on the level of poltergeist.

  • Your title still makes me laugh. I recall seeing this at our Arlington theater (Fox landmark in Santa Barbara). I remember a revelation about the sound. The incredible Dolby Surround sound. Back then it was a luxury when they got it right. And these analogue tracks were pumping back then. This is still the best film from the past 30 years. There is no doubt. It's only competitor came out the following year, a little film called Back to the Future!!!

  • god dammmit !! i remember this part of the movie i actually watched 20 million times ! there is something about that scene that got stucked up in mined ! j love that movie !

  • I knew this was a great scene even when I was 4.I'm not trying to say anything about my intelligence, that's just how good the scene is.

  • This is the film's only scene that makes use of a helicopter shot. I think that the more distant and moving angle puts the characters into strong contrast with the size of the city around them. It adds to the ominous & threatening mood for the scene. The impending crisis is made more acute by highlighting the (comparatively) insignificant proportion of the ghostbusters to the world (and supernatural world) around them. The car moves just as time does towards the unavoidable finale.

  • It took me a decade to not be scared of this. Now I love it

  • A friend of mine found the Elmer Bernstein score on the internet for me, wish I could tell ya's where, but I got it and it's awesome. This was some of the best music of the movie, dark and forboading.

  • awesome scene and i love that shot of ecto 1 going towards manhatten. the twin towers were beautiful , r.i.p all those who died

  • its really creepy at the end w/ the twin

    towers in the background

  • @billycarr it's not creepy. it's sad to see them knowing that they were in a number of movies set in nyc and now they're gone.

  • Anyone know where I can pick this up/download it or just listen to the full song?

  • When I first saw this seen as a kid...it did freak me out a little...when they were talking about Revelations: End Of Days

  • Great scene, not sure if it's best of all time, but def in my top 10.

Bill Murray said in an interview that this scene gives him the chills and it's his favorite of the movie. Especially because you see the ecto-1 crossing the bridge + the music and NY skyline in the backdrop.

  • @FormerlyKnownAsShun Mee too it's scary

  • Am i the only one who noticed that when they first drove across the bridge it was night, then when there at the end of the bridge- Sun rise.

Its the little touches that make a good movie great.

  • Epic scene and the music in the back when Winston talks about the dead rising is very eerie. This film would be creepy if it wasn't a comedy.

  • I loved Ghostbusters as a child. It's still my favorite movie. As an adult, it boggles me to think about what the movie managed to get past the radar. Though this scene brings up Christian mythology, only one god shows up in the whole movie: Gozer. Was it the Sumerians who got it right? Is there a pantheon of gods? Yet, in the end, it isn't the Christian deity who saves the world, but rather mere mortals: the Ghostbusters. The implications of that may bring some to see this movie in a new light.

  • @mattthepale When I saw it as a young kid, I just took it for the BIG Question. That happens to be my favorite scene. I sure that in the good book it talks about Saddom and Goomora (sorry about misspells I'm not a big reader) that while there are those who believe in God the land and lives shall not be destroyed. Hence the ending of gb!

  • @mattthepale christian isnt "mythology". obviously you dont know your history or science. just another secular humanist bafoon who thinks we came from monkeys. ha. you dont have anyone fooled. you also have to remember that this is a MOVIE and not to be taken super seriously. God in the end has already prevailed over those unbelievers and athiests. the movie is fun but not to be taken that seriously obviously.

  • @burtonrules123 0.5/10

  • @mattthepale right whatever that means

  • @burtonrules123 yeah! Tell me about it...I hate those damned scientist fools and their "facts" and their "evidence". The only evidence I need is the good book.

  • @mattthepale Well, the Christian mythology never denied there were other gods, it just advised against worshipping them. I'd say Gozer sort of enforces that recommendation :-D

(But he sure knows how to fry eggs)

  • @mattthepale "Yet, in the end, it isn't the Christian deity who saves the world, but rather mere mortals: the Ghostbusters. The implications of that may bring some to see this movie in a new light."

*Ahem* ... The NEXT time someone asks you if you're a GOD. You say... YES!"

  • @mattthepale strange you say this because as I give my testimony of coming to God through Jesus Christ, I always mention two things : Ghostbusters and the OC Supertones. Ghostbusters because it was them doing battle with Gozer in the movie, Tiamat in Citizen Ghost- that opened my skeptic mind (even as a child) to the possibility that the supernatural existed.

  • Yeah, that's right, make the black guy the superstitious one...

  • I just noticed. When Ray says Judgement day and Winston nudges his shoulder, in my version you only see a close up of Ray, and Winston's shows up.

  • @Mrster You must have a pan-and-scan copy instead of the widescreen version.

  • @David8693

Probably. But it was like zoomed in, I don't know.

  • umm great movie butt thats kinda a boring part

  • This is a very awesome Scene! The only thing I gotta say is its not Revelation 7:12 its actually 6:12. Doesn't matter though, still awesome!

  • @Chevypower265 yeah I went to a Bible and checked it myself. Maybe it was in purpose so people will read there Bible

  • @sluggo06 Well, I dunno if it was that but saying 7:12 just comes out more easy then 6:12, say his lines with both. You'll notice 7:12 sounds better.

  • @Chevypower265 true, anyway that is a very "makes ya think" moments

  • @sluggo06 Yes it does, let me throw this one at you, we have more proof now of the paranormal then ever before and the proof is getting to be more and more everyday, as in videos, pictures, recordings.. Yeah we have more research on it and more technogoly but it seems like the dead is awful restless. Almost like Winston says, like the dead are rising from the grave. Think about that for a while and its kinda scary. And it says in the Bible near the end you'll not be able to tell one season PT1

  • @sluggo06 PT2 from the other and have you noticed how wild weather is every season now? like right now, its fall and still in the 90s. and all the weird storms and stuff we have, if everyone would pick up the Bible and do some reading, they'd understand that a lot of the signs that the Bible says will show before the end are in fact starting to show. Then if you believe that and then if you believe in the mayan prophecy only being two years away, it gets really scary to think about it all.

  • @Chevypower265 i got a video on my favorites list you might want to check out. its number 1.

  • lol dont know if its the greatest, but its one of my fav. movie.

  • i agree the one only serious scene, i think people always read too much into biblical content. in films. Its like samuel jackson in pulp fiction. Its the way its delivered. I never noticed the two tower in the background, thats a good point, but this is 1984.

  • Very interesting, nuanced scene - it doesn't seem to endorse either viewpoint. Ray doesn't seem to care about the larger implications, he's just taking a scientific tunnel-vision approach. While Winston doesn't seem to care about the practical implications, he just wants to tell someone about his faith (as is the case with many Christians).

  • W@lovetoeatallthefood well said

  • what's the song with the drums and coo guitar at the end? not the classical song.

  • It's not a song it's part of the GB's score

  • This is so powerful. What a performance by Ernie. HE SHOULD HAVE GOT AN OSCAR FOR THIS!!! ERNIE ERNIE!!! Best scene in the whole film, that song IS CLASS!!!!!

  • I just love the baleful tone of the scene, complete with the silhouette of the Twin Towers at the end.

  • im a Christian so im totally on winstons side when i watch this scene. ernie hudson is a real life Christian as well, i have the Bible narration with lots of famous ppl and hes one of them on it lol. notice how calm he is in this scene, more confident. "i LOVE Jesus' style".

  • @burtonrules123 Really? I had no idea he was a man of Faith

  • @sluggo06 yes ive read various places that he is a Christian, he also did a voice on the audio CD version of the Bible (forget what character he does the voice for) but yes he did an interview for it and you can tell hes really into his faith. all around cool guy.

  • @burtonrules123 thats good to hear, as a fellow child of God that makes me love this man even more. (not in a gay way)

  • Fantastic!

  • My insides hurt when I still see the Towers standing after Winston's "reminder." I love this movie and I love this scene. Peace from Queens.

  • The end is comming o_o

Great video :) Look! The twin towers D:

  • I thought I remember this film with the rose tinted glasses of childhood. But it's still really excellent. It's a paragon of tasteful entertainment.

  • Ditto. I hadn't seen this film in nearly a decade and re-watched it recently - I think I like it even more than I did as a kid. There's so many great, subtle bits of dialogue, etc, that I didn't get as a kid ("Listen! Do you smell that?").

  • The music is what really makes this scene all the more memorable! RIP Elmer Bernstein.

  • yeah this scene in paricular gave the film a more dark element to it, and I glad Winston got to be in it

  • 1:14 what is the name of the song???

  • THANK YOU for putting this up, been searching for it for ages. I've been able to quote this scene word for words since I was 7. Even as a kid I knew it was the coolest scene ever.

  • I've always thought that was a great scene for whatever reason

  • Hear, hear! A mainstream film that touches on the topic of religion, without turning into a polemic for or against? Pretty hard to imagine something like that being made today!

  • The title for the track that the music for the last part of this scene is 18: Elmer Bernstein-Peter Arrives(I Am Zuul/Myth). Search it on Youtube it's on here.

  • i fell in love with 50s cadillacs because of ecto 1, that may have been the first 59 cadillac id ever seen

  • that skyline shot is epic this is really one of the greatest scenes ever in a movie

  • o_O

Yes... some music would be nice.

  • is this c.d available out side USA?

  • that scence creep me out

  • i cannot find the song at the end of this scene. ive read that its called judgement day by varese sarabande, and that its called zuul? I looked on the itunes store and the song isnt on the ghostbusters soundtrack they offer. Can anyone give me a bit more direction on where to find this song???

  • the song is judgement day, its by elmer bernstein, and its some "club collection" called "varese sarabande" im lookning for it my self,

  • It's at the end of 'Zuul' on the original soundtrack. It's the same length as the bit in the film.

  • I just love the way the music kicks in at the end and their driving over the bridge with manhattan in the background.

  • too bad that song isn't longer. i'd like to play it on a roadtrip after a serious conversation.

  • hahahahahaj

  • hahahaha

  • After reading the 'More Info' i agree 100%

    Great points

  • the music at 0:53 - 1:11 sends chills down my spine. It used to make me un easy when I watched this as a kid.

  • @stuarachel I wish I could find that song. Its creepy and very chilling for the scene, but I like it.

  • @Chevypower265 "Ghostbusters (Original Score) - 13 There Is No Dana Only Zuul - Myth - Elmer Bernstein " type thats into youtube. the piece of music your looking for starts at 8min24secs"

  • @rallyeluke Alright thank you very much!

  • You, know, it's weird, Ray says here he never met God, but in the game he mentions about a time when he was in Seminary.... interesting huh? Maybe a little history there?

  • I was about 95% sure that once they turned on the music it was going to be....BZZZIIITT.... Never going to give you up! never going to let you down!...

  • whats the song at the very end of this scene called?!?!?!

  • Song is called "Judgment Day" and its on the Varese Sarabande released Ghostbusters Soundtrack by Elmer Bernstein, the beginning of the scene's music actually is still the song from the previous scene "Dana's Room" Purchase with that in mind (the whole soundtrack is awesome)

  • This part gives me the chills. Definitely in need of some music after hearing that ;)

  • Who is the artist of the song at the end of the clip?

  • "Song is called "Judgment Day" and its on the Varese Sarabande released Ghostbusters Soundtrack by Elmer Bernstein, the beginning of the scene's music actually is still the song from the previous scene "Dana's Room" Purchase with that in mind (the whole soundtrack is awesome) "

  • Walter Peck has the best scenes in the film

  • Ray is actually quoting Revelations 6:12, not 7:12.

  • Hey, if you wanna get nit-picky, it's actually called the "Book of Revelation" not "Revelations."

  • Excellent scene extraction.

  • I have the score in MP3 format :)

  • smack my bitch up with a link to that song broski.

    thanks brah

  • Anyone else bother to look it up and notice that it's really Revelation 6:12?

  • yo theambassadors ive seen the ghostbuster movie a million times and i thought i was the only one who thought this scene was amazing it gave me goosbumps everytime i watched it. its just perfect the acting, the mood, the music, and then the awesome background of the New York skyline

  • bro this is even the scene that got me to first check out the bible- it's just powerful- I dig it.

  • @theambassadors --I love this scene the most as well, I made a Fan film, splicing scenes from the movie with Interviews and extras from the blu-ray and dvd, This scene is the opening of my movie..of a 6 hour fan film/documentary I made..

  • Awesome scene.

  • This scene is great, and is somewhat creepy don't you think?

Hrrr. Let's put on some music.

  • New York 1984 with Twin Towers. Beautiful ! They should build the Twin Towers II not the Fearom Tower!

  • Nice thought but who the hell would want to work in it after the last time?

  • Comment removed

  • What song ?

    Please

  • It's 'Zuul' from the OST.

It's on GB fans website if you want a listen.

  • I agree, this is one of my favorite scenes from that movie and one of my favorite of all time. When I become a Director, I hope I can make scenes as good as this despite the horrible trash we have as movies these days. Awesome scene.

  • My favourite scene from the movie - and it's hard to choose just one. Love the way that bookends the 2nd act with the that small conversation and shot of NY at dawn

  • Amazing. Just fucking amazing. I am so terrified about Ghostbusters 3 when I see cool shit like this.

  • it's the best movie of all time

  • name of the song dudes? please

  • it's already been answered on the original page of comments.. go have a look.

  • We were spoiled with perfection here. Now, on with the countdown.....

  • Only thing I see wrong is he says its 7,12..its really 6,12 But still very awesome scene!

  • @Chevypower265 legit- i noticed that too!

  • pretty wonky chopper shot at the end

  • except not ghost's but zombies

its gonna happen sooner other then later

  • No... it certainly one of the best!

  • I don't know if it's the best scene of cinema history but hey, good choice. :-) I love the movie and this scene is very good, kind of chilly and much subtler than it'd seem. Look at the way it's shot: they're crossing a bridge, which suggests transition - even more so, in these very 90 seconds night is turning into dawn...

  • what song do they put on in the end of the scene, i wanna DL it

  • It is called "Judgment Day" and its on the Varese Sarabande released Ghostbusters Soundtrack by Elmer Bernstein, the beginning of the scene's music actually is still the song from the previous scene "Dana's Room" Purchase with that in mind (the whole soundtrack is awesome)

  • It's off the Elmer Berstein score.

  • this is high art to you?

  • oh yes, i do not hold to the belief that just because it makes AFI (which this does) that its great. One of my requirements for a great movie is it entertains the "average" person and not just film professors. Ghostbusters is the ultimate example of genius and this philosophy of entertainment.

  • haha - you need to get out more

  • This has always been my favorite scene in the entire film. It also features a great Bernstein score. Glad someone else enjoyed it as much as I did.

  • Don't read too much into this...

  • explain and I'll address. and no I don't think the mention of "bible" or "Jesus" makes Ghostbusters a Christian movie.

  • Search Richard Dreyfuss JAWS#6 (USS Indianapolis)

Fast forward to 3:03 and watch from there onward. Robert Shaw's delivery of the story of the USS Indianapolis is far better then this.
