  • Very Nice!

  • Nice to see such a quality vid

  • excellent interpretation! you nailed it.

simple with just enough emotional flourish. this is such a strong song that it suffers when other interpreters try to add all of the stylistic "stuff" they want to include.

    my compliments!

  • listened to a whole lotta covers of this song.this is one of the nicest.the guitar was PERFECT.

to me..this is a very emotional song, which has described a lot of pain i can relate to..i'd like to hear a bit more of that depth and feeling in this cover..that's just a tiny bit of constructive criticism ,because i think with that, you'd have a good chance at perfecting this song.

    thank you for the song.

  • Excellent and beautiful. Thumbs up. I did a neat version of this song. Hope you will take a moment to click on my name and look it up and comment. Thanks, Sherrill

  • V nice enjoyed that. Nice Kitchen too

  • A beautiful treatment of a most beautiful song...

  • Nice cover! Free and easy going, just like it should be! Nice voice too 5***** (or a like)

  • @hugglebear69

    Thanks, hugglebear. Much appreciated.

  • Lol monsieur vous chanter Vraiment bien et vous etre full de bon on guitar

  • brilliant mate

  • I love your voice! It fits perfectly with this song. I like how you slowed the song down a little. It gives it a more emotional pull.

  • great cover!!!

  • See what I mean monsieur? Too modest.Great voice on the right songs

  • Encore une fois, vous êtes très gentil,

monsieur. Et, vous vivez en France? Puis-je demander pourquoi et où?

Oui, je suis très curieux, et le nez est très grand. :-)

    Ton ami.

    Alan.

  • Salut Alan, permets-moi de te tutoyer,t'as la peche?Don't have the accents on this P.C so I'll continue in English.Irish origins, French ladybird, teaching English in the Drome(Rhone-Alpes),we like a lot of the same music apparently, but you perform it better than I do.

    P.S I can't find that 5 grand I saved up-can I have your Fylde magician?

    Cheers mate...address to follow

  • beautiful version man, if your worried about your voice, i shouldn't if i were you. What must it be like when you haven't had the flu.

  • Cheers, StuBell.

Enjoyed your excellent version of Catch The Wind.

    Cheers. Alan.

  • Great job, and nice guitar lol

  • Don't worry about your voice here ! It reminds me the magical singing of Nick Drake

  • Hi, fransgreg.

Many thanks, although the voice really is a bit rough at the moment; just recovering from la grippe porcine, je pense! :-)

    Amitiers.

    Alan.

  • very pretty

  • Very beautiful. I did a version then looked around. 5 ****

  • wow!

  • good guitar playing and also good voice,.

  • Very nice . kudos .

  • Great Job Loved Your Rendition.

    Nice Vocals Also.

  • Your voice is particularly nice for this song, imparting the feel of narration and the emotion of the words. Your highs are clean and clear - very nice in this piece, along with such appropriate inflection. Lovely job.

  • Very nice rendition and vocal, and great kitchen acoustics!!! (but this old fart did know that it was about old Vinnie...)

  • perfect voice,heroic work!

  • love it!

  • nice cover mate, check out my version

  • Had a look. Well sung and played.

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Still sounding superb. When will we see more :-)

  • Oh wow. Best cover I've come across and I've been through quite a few. You added the capo too! Good choice, works with your tone. 5 stars!

  • Many thanks, Phlilone.

Wouldn't be without my trusty capo! :-)

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • PLZZZZ, some one tell me where to get a decent TAB... i dont understand all the chord shit yet. i have taught myself.

  • Why not just, gee, I don't know...LEARN chords. Can you read and write words? Or do you just speak? Learning music on a technical level is important that way you don't limit yourself and you don't always have to depend on people for tabs. You get it?

  • hello=)

i'm sweating all the days and i really can't find out the tab

could you be that nice and help me somehow?

    thank you

  • Hi, Weirdscene.

I only have the 'music' sorry, no tab. I listened and wrote it down about 15 years ago. I'm happy to send it to, but first of course, I'll need an email address.

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Love this!!

  • Cheers!

  • Simply, an excelent rendition.

  • Thanks, eabr.

You have a great selection of videos; a gold mine! Don McLean, Lennon & Harrison, Nicola Di Bari, etc etc etc. The list is endless. Really enjoyed listening to many of them.

Must pop along to this $wap Shop sometime!!!

    :-)

    Alan.

  • 5 stars for you , awesome cover of a wonderful song !!!!!!! Keep it up

  • Nice arrangement. Please give us more to enjoy!

  • Wonderful vdo. I love your performing. How you played the guitar and your voice , WOW ! Thanks a million times for sharing this vdo. You are the best.

  • Hi, gentle991.

Many thanks for your very kind words.

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Really Beautiful.. Thank you for that.

  • Thanks, Ronnie.

Really enjoyed watching your PRS demo vids too: and art-form which always blows my little mind! Hope the 'electricity in your kitchen' gets sorted! :-)

    Regards.

    Alan.

  • holy crap shit! Where the fuck did that come from?! That was amazing. The guitar and the voice, enchanting. I'm not sure that even you know how good that was... and bullshit about your voice not "lending itself", that is talent and everything encompassing the art of music...

  • I really love this, outstanding :) - gave me the chills too. lovely. :)

  • Cheers, shaun.

Enjoyed looking through a few of your vids too.

    Regards.

    Alan.

  • Wow. Bravo! Very smooth elaborate version of this poignant song. Gave me chills.

  • Thanks, royadd, for your kind comments.

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Thanks, 482856589378264508928384439674.

    Best wishes.

    Alan. :-)

  • thankyou salixarbo, really great tribute to Dom mclean. You have a really good voice and it's good to see you showing it to the world

  • Thanks, carnutter.

5 out of 5 for your melodian playing too.

    Really enjoyed it.

    Cheers.

    Alan.

  • Emozionante!

  • Tender and beautiful, like...Vincent

  • Hi, reliablebow.

Enjoyed your many Neil Young covers. Lovely sound. Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Hi Alan, I've got myself a new guitar, I'm learning your version of Vincent, singing and playing at the same time is coming to me, but man its hard!!

  • Hi, Deka.

You're right, singing and playing at the same time makes the job so much harder. You will without doubt need months of relentless practice until the playing and singing becomes one automatic operation; until no thinking is required!!! :-(

You didn't think I was being intelligent did you!? :-)

Best of luck and best wishes.

    Alan.

  • guy, i heavily underestimated the sound of your voice its sounds cool i wish i had my like that

  • Dear Sir:

Your voice is one of the most pure I've heard on YouTube (or ever!!), and your rendition of this classic brought a tear to my eye-

Thanks for sharing your art and talent with the world

    Cheers

  • Dear Sanjeev.

I don't know where to turn to hide my embarrassment! You're much too kind, but like I found earlier comments, your words are very encouraging. Must get that guitar out again some time!!

    Very best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Honestly, you have the most beautiful singing voice I've heard in a LONG time. It is so pure and clean oh my goodness. You sing it better then McLean. Chills.

  • Thanks, Claire.

That's nice encouragement! I often neglect this lovely piece; perhaps I should give it a run out a little more frequently.

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • You're really really good. Nice job! You are now officially my Idol.

  • anybody else think he sounds like stuart murdoch from belle and sebastian? definitely a compliment.

  • I really enjoyed your singing and the guitar music. Good job!

  • Thanks, syara/sultan...

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Hi Alan.!

GREAT play and singing - You just complete my da.

    Regards Carsten Lindstrøm - Denmark

  • Many thanks, Carsten.

    Regards.

    Alan.

  • Hi Alan, what are the chords you play in the 'Now i understand...' not sure if that's called the bridge or not.

  • very very nice really enjoyed it

  • I really enjoy listening to this, sounds great! Sorry for posting again :P. I can sing, but when it comes to singing and playing guitar at the same time I find near impossible!! Any hints as to how to do this???

  • Hi, deka.

I find it hard work too, and need to work very hard to learn a new piece. For instance, this piece, I listened to the original countless times over, each time writing down every new note I discovered, importantly bar by bar, beat by beat. At the same time fitting the lyrics in carefully alongside their matching notes. Then need to practice coordinating voice and fingers together, one bar at a time. Repetition & lots of practice. No easy answers I'm afraid! :-(

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Well that's helped actually :D, thanks Alan.

  • Yeah, that was awesome. How long have you been performing for??

  • Hi, deka.

I'm embarrassed to confess that I've playing for just over 30 years now! I practiced and played fanatically for the first 4 years, then have been steadily going downhill ever since! :-)

Enjoyed your Eva-Watermark by the way.

    kind regards.

    Alan.

  • WoW, that's really impressive! I guessed it would have been a while, really enjoyed your version of Vincent, great song. Now I'm sure you're not going downhill, hehe, maybe a little modest.

  • very very good... really good. well done.

  • Ahhh! this is wayyyyy nice! great job yeahs!

  • classic song beautifully sung-as usual ! nice

  • impresive very lovely its so damn nice just like the original ....

  • hell of a cover mate uve done this song some justice

i wouldnt mind hearing you doing elvis young and beautiful

    let me know

  • Hi, shagsta1.

Glad you liked my recording of Starry...I recorded it nearly a year ago, and can barely remember it now! :-(

BTW I could never ever attempt an Elvis impression!

    Cheers.

    Alan.

  • you must have put so much time and effort in over the years to play so beautiful,i have just started a few months ago and will be happy if i can be half as good.great effort

  • Thanks, Strummer58.

You're right about the amount of effort over the years...lots, albeit these days I rarely seem to find time...might just go and give it a run out now! :-)

    Keep up the practice.

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • great!!

  • Very lovely. Your guitar has such a rich sound. :)

If I may make a suggestion? You're a little breathy. Lessons would help that. :) You have a very pleasant voice. Thank you. . .

  • Hi, Deborah/Songsmirth. The old voice is struggling these days I'm afraid :-) To be honest, I think you either have it or you don't...and I don't! :-) You're right about the guitar; beautifully woods, beautifully made, lovely tone. I'm very lucky to own it.

I had it made big so I could hide behind it.

    :-)

    Best wishes.

    Alan

  • You're wrong about that. I forgot to say the lovely feeling you express is a natural talent. I bet people can listen to you for hours. . . I could, seriously. It's the love of the song that's the thing! Happy New Year

  • you must not hide yourself, you are great!!!

  • your voice is so amazingly perfect ! honestly , it is so incredibly pretty. you are very gifted with your ability to play so beautifully, but only select few have a voice such as yours... amazing! :)

  • Hi, Lalalie23. Wow! What can I say? You're very kind. That's quite some accolade from you. Music is very subjective of course, and others would possibly have less complimentary opinions of my voice! All good fun though! :-)

    Best wishes & Merry Christmas.

    Alan.

  • amazing

  • bravo! (clap clap ckap) :D

  • i love how you sang this..very unique. i love van gogh and this song.

  • ive always longed to play difficult acoustic classicals like don mclean's. nice playing there. hope i could borrow your fingers for a while or two, hehehe...

  • Subtle differences, that's all, Dan. It was great to hear someone else playing this tune. I arranged mine by ear, relentlessly playing and rewinding on an old tape recorder, but I notice we still pick almost identical notes...that's pleasing! :-)

    Regards,

    Alan.

  • You blow me away with your guitar playing and singing..well done

  • Thanks, kiwistopher, and thanks for those fantastic Tommy Emmanuel videos! Now that's really whetted my appetite! :-)

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

    Alan.

    Alan.

  • Awesome work, great feeling.

  • Hi alan i must say absolutely outstanding, i myself am very passionate about the acoustic guitar especially fingerpicking and when i clicked on your videos most of your songs i had just been learning by playing along to so obviously we have very similar taste, once again brilliant guitar playing and good voice too, i'm off to practice now so i can be as good as you. cheers.

    Many thanks.

    Alan.

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • your tender voice, hugging each note, your playing taking us into the story, the life of such an artist...

Your voice, caressing each note equally as beautifully as your fingertips..

Thank you for.. sharing with me your talent...

    *sheri*

  • Thanks, Sheri. That's a huge accolade you've just bestowed my way; much too charitable, but I thank you all the same. I've enjoyed your videos of James Taylor and especially 'The Corries'...virtually my first loves in music...I always wanted to be as good looking as Ronnie; all that lovely hair!!!!! :-)

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Alan, you rock. don't mean any disrespect to mr. mclean, but i prefer your version of this classic song. thanks for making my day.

  • What can I say, kungjei? That's quite some praise indeed! Very many thanks.

    Best wishes.

    Alan.

  • Thanks, Richieswift. As for the lyrics to Streets of London, I guess I've just 'let slip' over the years...call it artistic license...or perhaps just a bad memory! :-)

    Alan.

  • Sweet

  • Thanks, Joe.

Alan (just an average bod) :-)

  • Very soothing after a hard days work....thanks....much appreciated

  • Thanks, John. May I ask what the numbers 17815 represent: 17th Aug?

    Cheers.

    Alan.

  • You sang/played Van Gogh with the feel of a man fishing near a lazy river. Surprises me this interpretation; cause Van Gogh always crashes over me.

  • A very learned and qualified opinion, I sure, robinhobb4. Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will sit in a boat, and drink beer all day.

  • alan i have now added a video of this song in rememberance of george best wld be gd if you wld take a look at it and tell me what u think ty..........gareth

  • Hi, Nick. Very nice tribute video to Bestie. I'm sure it'll get a lot of favourable comments.
