Really bad move by that guy in the blue that hit the rider who was standing. Didn't look like he slowed down at all. Just tried to make it through and pass a bunch of people. That's a really big risk to take to try to finish 20th instead of 30th.
why did the guy in yellow stand up not looking behind him, causing the guy in blue to plow right into him? He crashed he already lost a lot of position why the rush? The pay out for 20th is normally not that much, what you get your 40 bucks back that you paid for the race? You should know that the whole field is right behind you and coming quick stay down till it is safe to get up.
@kevinhmiles hey body your A fucking moron crits are high speeed events and there still going full speed to the finish lin even if there in 50th i was just recently in a race with a massive crash so think before you speek!
@leafsfan234 Hey dumbass, what moron races for 50th??? You get no points, no money, no nothing... All you people do is wreck retard. Stay at the front douche...
@kevinhmiles well your just a fucking idiot your still gonna go ass hard as possible even thow your still in 50th. When i race i always go for the win thow !
@leafsfan234 No, you dont go ass hard for a 50th spot... Just be glad you finished... Dumbasses like yourself cause major wrecks for the fellas in the back... Racing for 20th & higher yes go for it. You'll learn one day kiddo how to race for 1st, one day...
@kevinhmiles well i do race for first but in the race i was recently in the inside riders forced the outside riders to wide on a turn wich caused the crash! and well the only crash i have ever caused was only me invloved because i was forced of the road into a ditch because the pelton was so close to the edge of the road.
@leafsfan234 I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were 15 & from Canada... So in the big leagues Cat 2 like myself we don't race for 50th spot. Its dumb, its stupid. If we wreck, we are out lots of money! We dont have a mommy & a daddy to pay for our stuff. I know its hard being a junior but one day you will get it.
Sounds like you dont know how to get & hold a position in a peloton... You will learn one day kiddo, one day, just use the force... Hey isnt it past your bed time?
@kevinhmiles no hard feelings man and also i can hold a postion its just when we get so close togther it shuffles us up and you get nudge of thr road!
@kevinhmiles but as i watch this video more and more it looks as if a guy near the front of the pak crashed in the sprint causing this chain reaction!
Hey mostlyreverend, don't be so holier than now, hindsight is great but with all that racing experience you should know that in the final sprint all the racers heartrates are pegged combined with going 40+mph. In all that craziness shit happens. I think that recursiv did just fine. Standing up immediatley after crashing was the bonehead move.
actually, i'm a cat 1 with 25 years of racing under my belt, and i'm sticking with the "use your brakes" suggestion. a quick review of the clip shows that there was a rider down a few yards before the bikes 2 you cyclist [in yellow], and you were in at least 20th place, and i don't know how deep they paid in that cat 3 crit, but it appears to me that you had time, and prudence would dictate, that you slow down.
I didn't finish. I'd agree. With the benefit of hindsight, it certainly appears from the video that everyone would have been better off if I had slowed down. I doubt whether I would have been able to avoid the collision entirely.
It's tough to go from a sprinting mentality to braking in a fraction of a second. If you were in my place, you probably would have handled it better, but I don't feel it was that unreasonable on my part, given the circumstances.
Just kidding. I did what I thought was best given less than a second of warning. If you've never been in a bike race, which I'm guessing is pretty likely, you should know that slamming on the brakes is likely to cause more problems than it solves during a crash.
I would think having your leg still in your bike and no ample opportunity to even stand up entirely would exempt you from any notion of irresponsibility. Why you gotta add guilt to a man's bruises?

recursiv.... Do you always sprint with hands on the Hoods. A bit more stable in the drops no?!
brentswitt 2 years ago
No, I don't always. I can't exactly recall why I had my hands where I did almost a year ago.
Normally though, yes. Drops.

I agree. Most of the guys coming in at the same time as recursive were going pretty fast too.
I also like how the guy up the road reaches out and grabs the bike out of the road.

"Yard sale", that's what that one is.
Looks worse on video than in person because it happens so fast. Fortunately, every one walked away from it (I was taking pix).
