  • Always in Europe's history, England has been a counterpower to keep the continent balanced (and protect its own interests from some hegemonic power). Cesar, Phillip, Napoleon, Hitler, European Union... Sometimes England (or the UK) was right, sometimes was wrong. Phillip is portrayed as a dark devil, but under the rule of Phillip II, Spain founded the first university of America. I'm jealous how the English reflects their history. The fact is that we, the spaniards, would like to do the same.

  • Wonderful film! It's such a shame that the English people are now destroying their country through immagration and 'multiculturalism' and are set to be minorities in their own lands.

  • what's the name of first music in this video? the one before my name is lincoln?

  • 4:20 - 4:39 just motivated me to stop being lazy and do my homework. why? i have no idea.

  • Why are the Spanish portrayed so dark and swarthy? Phillip II was fair and light-haired!

  • @ecp2014 I was thinking the same thing. I've been to spain, and many of the people there are very fair skinned.

  • @Castillaleon19 No kidding. they're Spaniards not Mexicans!

  • @2138red That's why I said they are light skinned...

Also, there are Mexicans of European descent, so you're comparison doesn't make sense. just like there are white, black Americans, Mexicans come in different colours!

  • Brilliantly composed trailer, which really gets to the marrow of this movie...and what a movie!

  • Eddie Redmayne .... <3

  • THE TRUE QUEEN OF ENGLAND! I want to live in this era and enjoy the time when England singlehandedly defeated the Spanish empire. Thanks to the English Channel and all our brave men and women who fought for our freedom from the dictates of the pope in catholic church and the dictates of the king of Spain ^_^

  • Hey guys. Could anyone tell me, how the music in the first minutes is called? (I'm sorry for my bad English ;-))

  • @AnnaMondragon91 Hey anna. It's called My Name Is Lincoln by Steve Jablonsky. It was originally from The Island soundtrack. Hope this helps?

  • @TH3GUNSL1NG3R Thanks for the answer :-) but it's not the part that meant.

I meant the part from 0:00 - 3:40. I'm sure there are not all from one movie. Maybe someone knows about them ;-)

  • For the enemy of Spain, Phillip II is so ugly but for Span and her colony he is the best king of Spain

  • Elizabeth: the pirates age!!!!...LOL...more than 20 years pirating Spanish ships...1560's- 1580's...one of the best movies from Renaissance era..I want to live in this era under the rule of Phillip II and I want to see how glorious our mother country SPAIN....I am here in the PHILIPPINES derived from Spanish king, PHILLIP II..my family tree was mix by Spanish...

  • Cate Blanchett is just perfect for regal roles. She's got the looks and aura.

  • Was that Laurence Fox with a silly blonde moustache on?? LOL!!!!!!!!

  • Elisabeth: the pirattes age.

  • This is amazing. :'D

  • Queen Elizabeth reminds me alot of Better Midler in Hocus Pocus, they have a simliar look.

  • Haters

  • And that castellano when speak on the movie is moore close to the portuguese than castellano...

  • amazing cinematography, bright direction and flawless acting makes this movie epic... Elizabeth the first was a great ruler and avant garde visionary.

  • Mmm Clive Owen's character and Elizabeth go so well together! Very watchable movie.

  • @NovaScotiaChick

"Mmm Clive Owen's character and Elizabeth go so well together! Very EPIC movie"

    fixed =P

  • the war was won by spain in 1608.......the spanish armada was a battle...like the counterarmada that failed the very next year against spain by england.....i never hear about that one...why?...,,,it must be the protestantism propaganda,,always so effective.

  • Phillip II lost because he thought that he was better than Elizabeth I, in the name of God.

  • @87mikegv No, Philip Lost because his plan was stragegically flawed from the very beggining. Religion was just really the excuse he gave the Pope.

  • @DaniMajor of course, I've told in a religious sense

  • My class will watch this movie next week.... jezuz help me! just trailer bored the shit out of mee

  • i have always felt so blessed to have been born in the same month and bare the same sign that this wonderful women had. i have always found her as my inspiration to never give up and to always do what i can to succeed! LONG LIVE QUEEN ELIZABETH THE FIRST!!!

  • I prefer this trailer to the actual movie, to be honest.

  • "I have no mustard"

  • I watched that the three or four princesses before Elizabeth(Virgin Queen) were cursed and died in rapid succession. All too fast, which gave her sole rights to the Brittish/English throne of Queen right before the 1600s Renneissance.

  • I learned Anne Boyelin was the whore/mistress of King Henry 8 Tudor. So that made Elizabeth half a princess. (sanctified in the womb?)

  • @TheOliverDg Anne Boleyn was Henry VIII's second wife. Her sister, Mary Boleyn was the kings mistress

  • Cate Blanchett's voice is EPIC!!! =D

  • loved that mary s. died, whore

  • Epicness starts at 4:13

  • Does anyone know the music playing at the very beginning?

  • "Tell Phillip, that I neither fear him, nor his armies. I have a hurricane in me that will strip Spain bare if you dare to try me!" Gives me chills every time I see it. Cate Blanchette, you are an amazing actress. Oscar worthy for sure.

  • whatever that queen said at 4:31

    that was music for me~

  • @account5014 I to can command the wind sir I have a hurricane in me that will strip spain bare if you dare to try me

  • whats that song at 3:53

  • @jesjenanddom

"my name is lincoln" from the soundtrack of "the Island"

  • Oh Britain, we are so blessed with many bright and compassionate monarchs who put country first :)

Europe is plagued with unpleasant monarchs. No wonder their people suffer from such violent revulsions. While they suffer,Britain prospered led by selfless monarchs through history

We have evolved from nomad tribes, to feudal lords, to absolute monarchy, to a republic, to a dictatorship, and to a parliamentary democracy-constitutional monarchy. Now we have the most stable government in the world.:)

  • @Wisdomfanatic2011 I wasn't trying to imply Scotland was any less of a victim than England from Spain. I was merely try to point out that every country has done its murders and has its flaws, Britain included.

  • @Emmercedes ok. i get your point :)

  • @Wisdomfanatic2011

    sounds quite arrogant ;)

  • @Wisdomfanatic2011 stable, not against the economic crisis

  • @Wisdomfanatic2011 Agreed although I hope your not being sarcastic

  • @Wisdomfanatic2011 That's because Britian exploited, corrupted, enslaved and colonized damn near every civilization in history.

  • @whateverman181 really? if you look at all former british colonies from west to east almost all of them are now the most progressive, richest and least corrupt countries in the world: Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, the Bahamas, South Africa, New Zealand, America, Gibraltar, Malta, Solomon Islands, Cyprus, Belize, Jamaica. i dont see the nice people living in these places complaining about Britain in anyway. So, shove your nonsensical quacks down your throat, dork.

  • Wow... the gorgeous metaphor in the very last scene-- Elizabeth standing on the map of the world, her gown fluttering over it, foreshadowing her nation's domination over one quarter of the globe...

  • the movie was boring but cate blanchett's acting was exceptional.

  • I have a question ever since I finished the movie does the guy that shot her really did shoot her???? Please answer quick....

  • @iiTraffel11 No. It's sort of unclear as to whether the gun was rigged not to shoot and just scare Elizabeth or if it was meant to shoot and jammed (I tend to think the former and not the later since I don't think anyone would actually shoot someone in a church, even a religious fanatic. Of course, I could be wrong, LOL!).

  • @DarlingNikki2

yes, Hatshepsut was much earlier, you are correct, but that only makes it more significant

  • @raigekimaru True, her reign is significant, but I'm only speaking in context of this movie. Most people have never heard of Hatshepsut (or other ancient female rulers) and, sadly, probably don't care. Elizabeth is always held as the shining ideal of a female sovereign; blame the way history is written and presented in classrooms of the world for that...

  • @iiTraffel11 He thought he shot her but the gun had only gunpowder in it and no bullet. So it didn't harm her.

  • The virgin queen one of the most famous English rulers in its long history her nation saved and hers would begin along rule. While spain would begin along pathetic decline.

  • I absolutly get chills!,GoosBumps!! This movie is just breath taking. There will never be another queen like her

    Long Live the Virgin Queen

  • this films shows that England has some bad times. But we always come back stronger

  • Somebody know the music beetween 2.33 to 3.30?

  • And the highest empire in human history was the spanish empire and Philip II of Spain was the ruler-

  • @christianuchija Yep...that turned out well...

  • in 1589 the queen ordered an expedition against Lisbon, the Contraarmada (superior even to the Armada), with the goal of eliminating the remnants of the Spanish fleet in the Atlantic and Portugal inciting an uprising against Philip. However, this expedition ended in disaster because it was unable to capture the Portuguese capital, losing lots of soldiers, sailors and ships, and causing a major economic crisis....

  • ...better the corruption of the political and religious world of that period. And ho spanish did that also english did aftee, agains puritans. So what I wanted to say was that thar period was a bad period for all europe and queen elizabeth did something better to improve it and if in that occasion spain is the "bad enemy" in another occasion england will be. I don't speak about country, I speak about the clever ruler, Elizaveth I.

  • tommiesis1313...I studied that one of the reasons of the economic fall of Spain under Philip II was that he chased away muslims and hebrews in the name of Catholinism and hebrews were an important part of spanish economy. Anyway gold from Americas came and even under Charles V spanish economy fell because of his wars to conquer Italy. I know that under religion was naturally money and power, money and power that the Vatican (and so Spain) lost in England with a Protestant queen, but this shows..

  • Anne Boleyn's legacy. Elizabeth I of England. Without her, England would never be a Protestant.

  • It's not about religion is it? It's about your faith. The whole war was about King Philip II and Spain's ego. Look what happened to Bloody Mary. You don't kill for God. I'm from the Philippines, a country that was name after him. We, experience first hand what Spanish can do. I was so happy when I heard Elizabeth pwned him. Their Priest talked about God, but do they really know Him and His words? No, they just used their powers to corrupt.

  • @skewnesz123 It really wasn't. Religion wasn't the reason Philip attacked England by that logic he would have attacked every protestant country in Europe. He enjoyed good relations with the Protestants Kings of the North. So come on that really wasn't what happened. What you feel towards Spain is exactly what the Indians feel towards the English or the Brazillians towards Portugal (And I'm Portuguese), it's a valid patriotic point but it's historically wrong.

  • 4:19 - 4:45 OSCAR!

  • ...a person that spoke about love and tolerance

  • I believe that this film is a statue to Queen Elizabeth I because with her govern England became a rich power and, more important, a power in peace without religion wars. Philip II of Spain killed muslims and hebrews and the spanish economy fell. In the name of a Holy Catholic Roman Church he wanted to destroy England only because English didn't accept a corrupt Vatican. It isn't a film against the Spain of Philip II, it's a film against wars that the stupid Europeans did in the name of...

  • @SimoneTrentacarlini spain did not fall because of religion wars...... because he had no money comming from south-america anymore, spanish got their gold from south-america you know....

  • That Philip of Spain is a clown, a stupid caricature perform by a catalan actor with silly lines.

  • this is basically the whole movie i hate when they do this

  • "i have a hurricane in me that will strip spain bare if you dare defy me"

    epic delivery man

  • Why did Cate Blanchett not get an Oscar for her portrayals as Elizabeth?

  • @TheNuharoo Because Marion Cotillard got hers for her performance in La Vie en Rose.

  • @freakishhigh Its actually "..if you dare to try me"

  • all this speak of arrogance comming from the british is laughable...I would think a sudden hurricane sweeping up and destroying over half of the Armada would prove who the old man upstairs felt was arrogant.....Oh yea plus the entire country going bankrupt thanks to an arrogant man threatened by a woman's power...and we all know what Spain does to women they are threatened by. Perhaps next a movie about that monsterous psycho-killer Isabella.

  • .i love how she portray her character as queen elizabeth!

  • Anyone knows the song playing at 2:36 ? Thank you :)

  • @LAsexyLA

    Thank you so much.

  • Does anyone know the song playing at 3:52 ?

  • @RekaiKyioshi1 It's My Name is Lincoln by Steve Jablonsky from The Island Soundtrack. Sometimes the song is easier to find by just searching The Island, Steve Jablonsky :) i'm looking for the song right before that one in the trailer. If you knew it I'd love to know the title!

  • no dudo que elizabeth formo un gran imperio, pero eso no significo la caida de ningun otro...

  • Typical characterization of the Spanish, black eyes and black hair. There are also many Spanish blonde with blue eyes, not just the British. I don't want to be racist but it's true.

  • @1994cordobes If you'd actually seen the whole film then you'd realise not all the Spanish had dark hair and eyes, nonetheless, so what? If you're not being racist then why even mention it?

  • @TraffordReds9 I mention this because I don't like being characterized in a way that I am not, and you're wrong, all the Spanish in the film are characterized with eyes and dark hair (except the king), it is clear that this movie is crap that was British to ridicule the Spanish. The way in which the king of Spain walks and talks is ridiculous, I was ashamed to see him.

  • @1994cordobes The only thing clear is that this interpretation of this piece of history has offended you, right down to the colour of the hair. A greater proportion of Spanish people have dark hair and eyes than English people. But if you want someone to get the exact proportions right then perhaps you should retell this story from a Spanish perspective. Perhaps then the Spanish Armada will have won that particular battle too. As it is, this is just ONE interpretation and I don't think less of..

  • @1994cordobes ...the Spanish because of it. I know that there was good and bad on both sides. Both nations swept across the globe bringing their diseases and greed and religion with them. But this film is just ONE interpretation of many, and it's admired most for the acting performances. Elizabeth I will always be admired by the English for bringing prosperity and pride to a poor land during her reign. That's just how it is. History is told by the victors.

  • @TraffordReds9 This film is not told for many, is told simply by the British. I do not hate the UK, this occurred many years ago. And you're right, the story is told by the victors, but it's badly told. The movie wants to show the bad Spanish and the English good, that's what I denounce, was a war between two countries, and had good and bad people in both countries ;) Greetings.

  • @1994cordobes This wasn't about the bad Spanish and the good English, it was about a holy war fought between Catholics and Protestants. Many more English died at the hands of other English because of this Holy War. In the end, BOTH sides won because Spain remained Catholic and England remained Protestant (and they both kept land their fore-athers had stolen from people who were pagans) many centuries before.

The moral of all this (in my opinion) is that religion sometimes sucks!

  • @TraffordReds9 I guess all countries have their personal heroes. What the English feel for Elizabeth is basically the same thing the Spanish feel for Philip, the "most Spanish King of all the Kings of Spain" (F.Braudel If I'm not mistaken) and for Charles V.

  • @1994cordobes Philip actually was whiter than Elizabeth (when he was born he was thought to be an albino), blonde reddish hair and blue eyes. So yeah this is a bit unfair but Mollá is handsome.

  • Es excelente la musica la trama todoooo...

  • I remember seeing this advertisement on TV and screamed - my husband looked at me as if I were insane.

  • @chibomato78 lol scream?

  • What dp you do, when you are facing your Death?

I FEAR NEITHER HIM, NOR HIS ARMIES. WHEN THIS DAY OF BATTLE IS ENDED, WE MEET AGAIN ON THE FIELD.....OF VICTORY!!!!

  • @CaptainKubla

    Obvious spelling mistake.........

  • The song at the end is called "My Name Is Lincoln". its a shame this movie is such a misconception. It gave me the impression there was going to be an awesome battle at the end, then it ended up being 5 minutes long :p

  • Far better than the whole movie.

  • Abbie Cornish is really beautiful here. She is the most beautiful mid-evil lady I have seen :)

  • damn is there really no way to find out what is the music since 2:35?? it´s been bothering me now for a few years!

  • @lubi238 music from the movie "the island"

  • @olimoj if you mean my name is lincoln, that´s not what i mean

  • @lubi238 The movies soundtrack is available for purchase. The song, whatever its called, should be on it.

  • @themailman43 Remember it's a movie about British history, not Spanish history, therefore the "English Armada" wasn't given much of a focus for the film. And who in their right mind tell a story all about national defeat? Aren't you reminded of a movie named "Pearl Harbor?". Remember, black legends and white legends, they're always around us.

  • @daxdigital I know it's about British history , but it's such an over exploited victory and a movie about it should be more accurate for the sake of history.

  • @themailman43 try telling the British producer of the film to balance it out and add the English armada backtstory, Not to mention the corrections for the errors and anachronisms in the film story.

  • @daxdigital Oh, the British don't want to hear anything about that one. It would take all the glory out of their Spanish Armada victory.

  • @themailman43 Damn right it would. Let the Spanish spend money on making that movie.

  • @JollyRodders Yeah it would be a good idea. A movie minus the british arrogance.

  • @themailman43 Ha Ha - You sound a little bit jealous of the British. Still sore about that storm that blew up in the channel The Battle of Trafalgar...or the ceding of Gibraltar perhaps..?? Lets face it the Spanish tried to invade England and failed several times, even trying to use the back door Ireland. The British have got a right to feel arrogant when it comes to the Spanish.

  • @JollyRodders Well is true the British won most of the battles, but don't forget also the battles that the Spanish won. The English Armada in 1589 , Cartagena de Indias in 1741 ( the worst defeat in Royal Navy's history) , and there's a few more that don't come to my mind right now.

  • @daxdigital Let the Spanish make that story.

  • Trailer in 5 MINUTES? Are you kidding me?

  • Jeez, the trailer gave away the whole movie!

  • @demonfelix No, history gave it away

  • I thought Alexander The Great had the Greatest Empire ever know ?!

  • this trailer gives me goosebumps. the true original girl power movie :)

  • English and Russin are language future

  • 1. Elizabeth was a stand alone hero in the sense that she was the only female sovereign to defy another male sovereign in a time when women were thought of as weak

    2. No country is inherently superior to another--all nations have dark, sometimes shameful pasts

    3. This is a dramatic rendering of historical events, therfore, quite a few artistic licenses with appearances and motivations have been taken

All of the above is just my opinion. Now, just try and enjoy the movie! :)

  • @DarlingNikki2

wrong. there was also Hatshepsut, woman pharaoh of Egypt. she's worth looking up

  • @raigekimaru I know about Hatshepsut (and a variety of other strong female leaders from ancient times), but I was speaking specifically about the time Elizabeth ruled. Remember, her father (and most other men of his time) didn't believe that women could be effective rulers, thus the obsession of having male children to secure the ruling line. Elizabeth herself was questioned many times, by her own ministers, as to her ability to rule. -con't--

  • @raigekimaru Just to finish what I was saying, Hatshepsut reigned way before Elizabeth's time (1508–1458 BC), so my initial comment was not wrong. Hope this doesn't come across as defensive, just wanting to state my case.

  • @DarlingNikki2

Really the only woman sovereign in Britians history? What about Queen Boudica who fought the Romans?

  • @Archaicconjurer I guess my comments are not clear. I am speaking of Elizabeth being a stand alone hero in the sense that IN HER TIME she was the only female sovereign to stand up to men who thought women were weak and useless. I am in no way dismissing tother female sovereigns BEFORE or AFTER her. There are several women in history who have been amazing leaders and all have in common the battle against not only outside opponents, but sexist insiders who think women are lesser.

  • @DarlingNikki2

Are you aware Elizabeth succeeded the crown from another female Queen, Bloody Mary, Queen Mary? There is a lot of chivlary concerning women during the English era throughout the years. . .This is a womans nation. . .

  • @Archaicconjurer Yes, I'm well aware that she succeeded her half-sister Mary. I really don't want to discuss this further since I feel like I am being misunderstood and taking over the comment section of what should be about the movie. Good day.

  • @DarlingNikki2

Then you are aware according to your profile, how influential women can be towards kings ;) Where it not for Anne Boylen, there would be no protestant chruch, ja ;) good day

  • @Archaicconjurer Yes, I'm aware of the influence of women over men (unfortunate for Anne that her influence couldn't save her neck from the chopping block, but that's another story).

  • @DarlingNikki2

Ah, you dont know the full story. . .Whispered in the chambers of court to only those who had more common sense then was perceived at that time. . .Anne Boylen tried to murder King Henry. . .Trace my nations history further back and further forward, outside Big Ben in London we have a Statue of Queen Boudica. . .Winston Churchill was a Druid (seen the photograph of his circle in a museum) Helen Duncan helped Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher won the Cold War. . .

  • This nation is unique, we have Stonehenge, we have Avebury, Royalty, Legends (not mythology) This land is like a spiritual magnet and women in the past and future are strong in Britain! How else did this land have the largest empire known on this globe to date?

  • More than one ruler defied Phillip of Spain. This trailer tries to depict Elizabeth I and England as some stand alone hero in the face of Catholic aggression when it clearly ignores the Dutch Independence Revolt, the Protestant Princes of Germany, the King of France who always hated Spain, the Ottoman Empire and its Sultan Suleiman. England did not fight Spain alone!

  • Comment removed

  • @1994cordobes I was very dissapointed with this movie. It's definetely anti-spanish, those actors that played spaniards, didn't even look spanish. They must have contracted mexicans which is easier and closer to Hollywood. Also the Spaniards were all dressed in black , to make them look the bad guys. It's really funny and ridiculous. If we see Spanish paintings from the period, the clothing was very colorful like any other euopean country. This is just a bad pro- english flick.

  • @themailman43 You are right, hiring Mexican actors to make Spanish ... is a shame

  • @themailman43

I don't think that they were portraying the Spaniards as bad guys to reflect negatively on the country, but to show how the English in their fear would view those who were threatening them. I would be interested to see a film from Spain's point of view, during which I am sure the English will be the "bad guys". Considering how the film is about an English woman during this time, they would want her to be the "good guy". In this case, both countries did good and bad things.

  • @ArmagonAuthor Yes, i would like to see that too. Remember also that this war was started not by the Spanish, but by the English themselves. Constant attacks on undefended Spanish merchant ships and cities in the Caribbean and South America , also their meddling in Spanish wars in Europe , specially Flanders. If the Spanish would have beaten them at sea and would have been able to land their infantry, England would have been lost , and they would have had nobody to blame for it, but themselves.

  • @themailman43 It's an interpretation of the English battle against the Spanish Armada. And it did happen, as written in historical accounts of the two countries involved (unless you want to invovlve the realms of the Duke of Parma at the time.) You have to look deeper into the stories and accounts that inspired the film, not just merely basing on the appearances of the Spanish people portrayed in the film, therefore giving your less than favorable review of the film.

  • @daxdigital Oh i know all about the Spanish Armada. Did you know that it was one of the few battles that the English won during the Anglo-Spanish War (1585-1604 ).? Look for some information about the " English Armada " in 1589 and how the English were defeated that time. The " Spanish Armada" battle is an over exploited propaganda battle by the English in a war that they lost to the Spanish in 1604 after which the English were forced to sign the treaty of London with ......

  • @daxdigital ....terms mostly favorable to the Spanish. That doesn't get mention much does it.? Remember the European power during the 16th century and half of the 17th century was Spain, not England.

  • Comment removed

  • @themailman43 not all spanish are that dark but some are

  • @themailman43 Omg!!! like always, blame the Mexicans! ha! But you have a point, U.S and Hollywood has always descriminated the Spanish language.

  • Te gustaria ser reina dei englaterra...

  • What's the music for this trailer? Specifically the music for the part where she's talking about the armada fleet and battle??

  • @AshleyDoubtsYou It's called "My Name Is Lincoln", and was on the film "The Island", composed by Steve Jablonsky. If you are on Spotify it's on there. Hope this helps.

  • @actornwriter Ah yes... I recognized My Name is Lincoln. But I wanted to know the rest of the music used in the trailer. Do you know?

  • Philip the second would have had to destroy the british and make them again subjects of the Pope ...

  • so ironic that all the things henry viii did to get a son, his daughter becomes england's greatest monarch

  • @shoobedoorocketship It's such a shame that she never had children, but once again, we can thank her father for traumatizing her.
