For example a mazda miata is much lower geared and has a lot less torque available at low rpms vs a ford gt which is geared very tall and has huge amounts of torque at low rpms

@sweat4me Starting on up-hills can be quite tricky. I would suggest that you try it out on a low traffic street to get used to it. What I do is I leave the clutch pedal at the posistion right before it catches, then I quickly move my right foot off the brake and immediately and rev the gas while at the same time releasing the clutch all the way. It takes time to get used to

@improvised88 Think about having a 1987 5.0L Mustang GT as a daily driver. Now take that car and make 100 stops in a day. That little rev each time adds up to a pretty big drink of gas when you think about it. If I downshift to stops I can pretty much guarantee I will get no better than 13mpg. On the other hand, by neutral stopping I can get as much as 21mpg in city driving. And thats coming from a 24 year old V8

here's one for ya: if you care about your gas consumption you should never coast in neutral because gas is being consumed (when in neutral) to keep the engine idling. however when your in-gear while slowing down/ coasting and not pressing the gas the car uses no gas at all because the engine is being turned by the wheels.

always use second gear in town for slow corners, like sharp 90º bends.

20-40km/h is always second gear.

40-60 = 3rd

60-80 = 4rd

80 - rest is 5th, unless you have six gear.

if you get below a speed of 20km/h in second gear, the car will start to .... and you can actually feel the motion of the pistons shoking.

you only use 1th gear to launch, but not to stop the car, just use brake below 20km/h, for precise slow motion (like parking) you do use 1th gear. but you don't drive in 1th gear, never!

Well.... A Ferrari is a bad car to learn manual transmission. They are like trucks because they've got so much torque you can start in 3rd gear (or 2nd uphill). => Try it the next time you drive a Ferrari ;-)

Never coast to a stop in neutral. Always be in a proper gear so in case of an emergency situation you do not have to worry about what gear to select. As you slow down and the clutch is engaged shift down through each gear in the transmission. In panic stop situations you can use the downshift method (takes a lot of practice to master) to help you stop much faster.
