@arnicaherb I was an electrical apprentice for over a year.. all major appliances have their own breaker. All he had to do was put a 12 dollar electrical tester on the wires as he flickered threw the breakers in the house electrical pannel when the beeping stopped on the tester the power is cut. Ive been shocked a shit load of times 120v, 15 amp is not a big deal but when messing with water too its a whole new world of hurt.
@arnicaherb He probably didn't think about it. He probably assumed everything under there was insulated. Believe it or not, I probably would have done the same thing. O_O Well, not anymore! Power goes OFF without fail, in the future, anytime I'm trying to fix a hardwired appliance like that.
Okay, this is probably just me being picky, but I feel I should say this:
The dad in this segment got SHOCKED. He did not get ELECTROCUTED. Electrocution is short for "electric execution", which refers to death by electric shock.
@MIKON8ERISBACK They could also just unplug the dishwasher. My dad is an electrician. (however in the event the plug is the problem yeah it would be wise to cut the power from the breaker to the kitchen at least until the dishwasher itself is unplugged) Once it's unplugged, you're fine.
@MIKON8ERISBACK Depends on the way the appliance is set up. Most have appliance plugs which are larger than your normal plugs but there are some that are built into the kitchen and hardwired. My dad is one who has replaced several appliances so he sets things up so if it breaks down it can easily be repaired or replaced.
It did happen to someone I know. My daughter when she was 13 went driving around w/ a carload of fools, the driver didn't even have a driver's license, who lost control of the car and drove it down an embankment where it plunged into the Schuykill River.
Having worked w/ some of the people I've encountered in Emergency Medicine, there was no way I was going to leave her w/ them w/out my being there too. I went w/ them and helped.
As a firefighter/EMT, I've never trusted doing something I have little knowledge of.
You wouldn't BELIEVE some of the idiots we've treated-and I'm not saying this guy's one of them.
The first poisoning call I got was for a man who was working on his car in the garage. He had two 7-up bottles, one w/ 7-Up in it and the other w/ gasoline.
He wasn't looking when he picked up the bottle and he swallowed a large mouthful of gasoline.
I thought, Who puts gasoline in a soda pop bottle.
such episodes such as this one made me wiser and leave the dangerous electrical problems to the professionals like my mom was worried if i fooled around with the circuit breaker box in my apt i may get shocked and die since i'm by myself.
@gregorkrause The guy at the electric company tried to tell me you can't hurt yourself messing w/ the circuit breaker.
I said "I work for the Fire Department, just so you'll know."
He said "We'll send someone out."
I thought he was a doofus. That's TOO lazy. Someone who didn't know about it could have gotten hurt, b/c the electric company wanted to avoid sending someone out to check the circuit. O_o
@vickiormindyb As when working with any electricity, you should sh out it off at the breaker first. If you shut the main breaker off you could work on the panel without being hurt. I would recommend leaving that work to the professionals though

People just fuck around with dishwashers and washing machines alike with no thought whatsoever to unplug the piece of shit first.

They should make a CPR course mandatory for graduating high school. It would save a lot of people...

@Snoep76239 I agree.

I feel bad for the guy, but it's pretty dumb to reach into a nest of wires while the appliance has the power on to it. Flip the breaker first!

"why didn't he switch the electricity off before repairing the dishwasher?" "I don't think I can answer that." Dumb guy.

This is a very expensive lesson! but not an electrocution.
Electrocution is the death by electrical discharge.
Arabhacks 5 months ago
@Arabhacks Well if he wasn't breathing and no pulse that would mean he's technically dead. Which would mean he was electrocuted.

barf245 6 months ago
This could have been avoided by simply cutting the power supply to the dishwasher by switching the electricity off on the circuit breaker.

Until I saw this, I didn't even know you COULD get electrocuted by a dishwasher.
That's kind of scary.
It happened to my sister. That's why I work in Emergency Medicine. I saw my sister almost die. Paramedics saved her life.

tpir1972 10 months ago
@tpir1972 They didn't shut off the breaker to the dishwasher and he touched the wire on it and got himself electrocuted because of that.
PredatorBrendan 9 months ago 2
Always turn off the power via the main breaker.
