  • Things you SIGN, YOUR NAME ON THE DOTTED LINE, BUZ!!!!!

  • HYPENATED words, X-RAY, MOTHER-IN-LAW

  • Jamie Farr was like "I got to have a beer after that"

  • Are you fucking serious???

    "black market"

    "Things with a hyphen".....

    That is INSANE!!!

    Woman is hella smart.

  • @phirephate I could've sworn that he was giving an illegal clue -- but, checking the dictionary, to black-market something is to sell it on the black market. It is a hyphenated term, hence legal.

  • @darkstar7646 Even if it was a hyphenated word I would argue that she said it before he completed his phrase.

  • 1:46 It looks like she hits Dick in the face when she throws her arms up. lol

  • That's why I love Dick Clark's version of $(X)XX,000 Pyramid. She said the word and they gave it to her. The judges were so strict you basically had to have the exacty phrasing of the clue in the winner's circle during D.O.'s short stint that it made the show unbearable to watch.

  • how did she get that????

  • this game is the shit!!

  • something white.. A ghost

  • Just in the nick of time! Awesome!!!

  • HYPHEN? I don't know how she pulled that.

  • WOW!!!!!!! That was SO close! A great win, indeed!

  • $100,000 can be won ONLY DURING TOURNAMENTS WEEK ONLY - otherwise is $10,000 or $25,000

  • Words with a hyphen? That was a fucking tough one, the fact she got it was amazing.

  • In all fairness to Jamie Farr,'Words With A Hyphen" would be so hard to break down and describe because 30 seconds wouldn't be enough time to name them all that come to mind.

  • This was the best and most intense game show ever!Yes,I even do include John Davidson's incarnation in the early 90's in that statement as well, but Donny Osmond's was a new show and paid 0 homage to this.

  • @landrykkb It's the sound of the timer. That thing makes me nuts!

  • @daward2 then you probably don't want to watch the Speed Round on "Sale Of The Century" clips or the Bonus Round on "Chain Reaction (Original) as the timer sound is the same

  • ralphie gets his red rider bb gun and 10 grand..sweet

  • @Taxi502 I didn't get that at first, but now, it makes sense!!! LOLZ!!!

  • Words with a HYPHEN qualifies as a $100,000 answer...IMO.

  • She's won $10,000!!! She's wearing fruit!!!

  • I like how they both looked at Dick Clark like he had any say in the matter.

  • How about isolated audio of the flute and rim-shot BOOP BOOP BOOP?! Peace.

  • she got help from Michael Larson

  • She also got lucky because I don't think you write out black-market, but "black market." If he had finished saying that (and there was time left), they might have gotten buzzed for leaving the category.

  • @WavemasterAshi I've seen it written with a hyphen and without. As a noun, it's usually non-hyphenated, as in "I bought guns on the black market", but as an adjective, it's usually hyphenated, "I bought black-market guns". This is according to my aunt who taught English for thirty years.

  • I thought of water-skiing,or old-fashined,or Hillary Rodam-Clinton,that is all I could think of

  • Whoo! Close one, but a great win nonetheless!

  • I have been watching these game shows, that has to be the most dramatic finished in a while.

  • Wow...how the hell did she get hyphen out of those clues?? !!!!

  • The woman was brilliant to get hyphen. I would have said Farrah Fawcett-Majors, Chris Evert-Lloyd, etc. with the hope that she'd get hyphen.

  • wtf? $10,000... thats it?! and she barely won... at the last second.

  • On the GSN

  • That has to be closest finish in game show history, by fraction of a second, and right out of blue, she says hyptened-words, fb.

  • wOw hOw she qet the last One riqht

and he didnt have a clue? lmaOOO

  • @xPrettyFlakax P.S. does dis show still come out today??

  • with half a click left!!!! That's a gr8 win!!!!

  • fake?! she somehow gets every single one on one word, and then on the last one she goes from "ancient things", then after going "uhh uhh" for half a minute he says "black" and she comes up with "hyphen"? give me a break!

  • @sillierbill Guess you just dont believe in dumb luck.

  • that was tough one.

  • They should tell the audience not to clap when they get an answer right because it takes up valuable seconds waiting for them to stop applauding before starting on the next one. Great clip.

  • not as funny as when Joey from FRIENDS was on it

  • I expect Jamie Farr has better things to do than watch old game show clips but I hope if he did watch this he would feel good because he totally had her back at the end. "She said it-she said it!" Man, I'm a loser.

  • @sweeneysister I like that he was for the contestant there. Celebrities are going to collect regardless of the contestant winning or losing, but the fact that he was fighting for her just makes him that much better. God I miss seeing stars like that - we need Pyramid and Password back.

  • he can`t think of clues? he only gave her one clue and kept saying uuuuuurrrr

  • I can't believe she won----he gave the lousiest clues. Good for her.

  • "Black, uh -" "HYPHEN!"

  • Where did THAT come from??? LOL. Incredible win. Sometimes words just appear our ot nowhere and people blurt them out. Great clip.

  • other hyphenated words: mid-december, president-elect, great-grandfather, non-fiction, and half-pinted.

  • For Jamie Farr it was probably one of those categories that you just get stumped on. You could see that he had alot of trouble coming up with stuff cause he never thought he would have to come up with enough hyphenated words just for her to guess that their hyphenated.

  • Here is a few more: light-year, forget-me-not, hurdy-gurdy, and open-minded. :)

  • or what this was: shot-in-the-dark =)

  • although the bell was ringing and the $10,000 was flashing on the screen... Still, she didn't know she won until the music started..

  • i love the tension at around 1:42-1:48... when Jamie is screaming, "She said it, she said it!" Dick is waiting for the judge's call... then he gets the signal from off stage and the music blares in... I'm glad the judge made the call right there so she could have the classic Pyramid winning moment... Rather than the judge checking the tape and coming up with the right call after the break... Takes away some of the drama that way... There is a clip of that happening somewhere here on youtube.

  • didnt she only win 10,000 not 100,000?

  • Only $10,000. NOT $100,000. The name of this game show is "The $100,000 Pyramid."

  • @pressmin Yes, it is - and you get to try for the $100,000 after you win TWO GAMES IN A ROW - the first one permitting you to do for $10,000. You did NOT get to try for $100,000 by winning only a single game. :D

  • Wow! No idea how she got that one.

  • The crowd shrieks in ecstasy. The bell rings incessantly. The catchy theme song hits.

The host and the contestants lose their minds in glee, and the big prize is given.

"Things that happen on the $100,000 Pyramid!"

The above clip is the essence of game shows in the 80's. I love it!!!

  • @ebonygentleman79 Oh, WOW!! Very eloquently put! TV game shows just aren't as... electric (and plentiful) as they were back in the days of the above clip. I think there really needs to be another big game show boom; so let's hope for another writer's strike, eh? ;-)

  • @ebonygentleman79 there was no confusion, clear cut, she said hyphen with 1 second clearly left on the clock, they gave her the money instantly, beautiful

  • @ebonygentleman79 First of all, you're getting way too descriptive but it's true, that's what made Pyramid a hit on TV.

  • yep def said hyphen with 1 second left

  • Yes, she said the keyword "hyphen" with one second left. In the Winner's Circle, you only need to say the category's keyword to win it.

  • what is she wearing? ugly

  • LOL - this was the mid-80s. Not the best era for fashion.

  • it wasn't the best era for fashion, it was the greatest.

  • I mean ok. Farr's hair was cool. Vicki Lawrence had her red hair. Stuff like that was cool. I just didnt realize it wasnt the best for fashion then.

  • I agree. Just look at the Gene Rayburn video for match game where he wore that terrible suit.

  • @vegas00729 Late '80s... 1987, to be exact. :-)

  • BAD FASHION IN THE 80's. WHAT DO YOU CALL DROOPY PANTS ON ALL THUGS..SHE LOOKS DAMN NICE.. OH AND HOLES IN JEANS...TATTOOS ON WOMEN ESPECIALLY THEIR LEGS. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AROUND TODAY..

  • Today women and girls look good. A lot better than in the 80's but the culture was better then cuz they didnt care what u did on television then. Just match match game clips.

  • they were so late on the bells and music, because they were so shocked she said it, lol

  • he has a huge nose

  • Was this Jamie's last $100,000 pyramid appearance?

  • No, he did appear on The $100,000 Pyramid with John Davidson and he and Loretta Swit appeared on Classic TV Week on The All New Pyramid with Donny Osmond.

and BTW, when Jamie appeared on Pyramid with John and Donny, he was showing his age, in other words, he had gray hair.

  • regis killed password, not pyramid.

  • The "big money craze" killed Password.

So many changes I would make to it...

But Password isn't dead yet. CBS is airing the remaining MDP episodes later this month.

  • No, it wasn't. It was on CBS! You lie.

  • It's on CBS and Regis can't host the daytime version. I still don't what you're talking about.

  • Best part ever, 1:46

Get out of the way! Haha

  • he was doing the dramatic falling off of screen, more for show then dodging her flailing. You can see better when it goes back to the front view, he likes to where jamie ends up standing.

  • That's true. It just looks funny from the angle its at to me.

  • Actually, Spiked, she said "hyphen" at 2 seconds left, and got it. :) Wasn't really a buzzer beater, but I don't think half the people onstage didn't hear it until she actually phrased it.

  • I saw 1 second on the clock when she said "hyphen".

  • Oh sweetie..you poor thing....actually, I have been paying attention, you should not misjudge people you dont know. What I AM SAYING, is, in my opinion, one has nothing to do with the other. Bitch.

  • what does regis and NBC have to do with Pyramid?

  • She started the word a millisecond before the buzzer sounded therfore it was a win....nice job!!!

  • Farr's nose serves as runway for 747s part time.

  • You could park your bike on Jamie Farr's nose!

  • if i am the first to say this she got it by a nose!

  • watching Dick Clark dive off the railing is just priceless

  • Seriously...how the hell did she get that??? Just great to watch.

  • She's fricking good. He hardly had to say anything.

  • You technically only need to say the key word before time runs out. So her saying "hyphen" with 1 second left works and constitutes a correct answer, and the win.

  • Was that the only time HYPHEN was used on ANY pyramid version?

  • She did pull that out of thin air.

  • Wow...she pulled that out of the thin air!

  • How the hell did she get hyphen?!?! Wow.

  • dam thats hard.

  • Great job Sergeant Klinger!

  • That's Corporal Klinger (although he did become a sergeant in 1981).

  • Wow talk about cutting it close. How did she come up with hyphen. They needed all the time they could get.

I did not know what clue to give without using word as a clue.

  • HYPHEN, wow how did she get that?

  • it was close but she says the word "hyphen" at about 1 second so the judges made the right call

  • to close to call but the judges made the right call

  • Dick Clark diving off the railing is just priceless!

  • I just love how one of the audience members starts screaming bloody murder once she realizes that the correct answer was given! Love it, just love it.

  • he said it i heard her said hyphen then the buzzer sounded

  • How in all hell did she get that?!! Great win!!

  • That lady is good.

  • If I had been Jamie Farr, I would have had to have a drink after that.

  • it looks like DC cliff dives off the circle at 1:47

    and here's a clue....

    farr's nose

things you can land a plane on

  • Man, he does like he leaps off to crowd surf.

That was IN-SANE that she got that. (Improper use of hyphen, I know.)

  • Now that was very funny, you could just see that Jamie Farr had no clue how to get it across to her that she had to guess hyphen. I bet they came to the conclusion never to use that kind of answer again.

  • Try never using that CLUE again. I was sitting there and I just couldn't come up with one off the top of my head either.

  • some of the higher numbers, merry-go-round etc

  • yo-yo came my mind immediately.

  • i remember seeing this epsiode on TV...wow!!!...so much suspense in those 60 seconds!!!

  • The buzzer was already sounding when she said it, so if I was the judge in this situation I would have said no.

  • She said "Hyphen" with one second left, so that's why they gave it to her. It was hard to hear as Jamie was giving his last clue.

  • She said it with 1 second left, and said it again as the buzzard sounded. Tough category, way to go!!!!

  • They were looking for "Hyphen" which was the essence of the category.

  • And, as the "Things made of Flannel" clip elsewhere on here illustrated perfectly, you need the essence of the answer. "Things made of" or "words with a" for example don't count. The main point of the answer must be said before the buzzer, and she did it, even if it's not included in a full sentence. She won fair and square.

  • "No fault of yours!"

    Classic.

  • Watching this show brings back the good old days before the stroke took over Dick Clark's life. I'm also a big game show fanatic, not to mention the 80's game shows to be specific so I am loving watching this!

  • Jamie Farr's reaction is great, so is Dick Clark's! Not to mention the people screaming in the audience. And of course the contestant too!

  • This was the best game show format of all time. Just brilliant and never boring. The celebrities seemed to really root for the contestants. Mom and I watched so many of the shows over the years. We still think of hard categories and test each other with them as a kind of parlor game.

  • Is your name Howard Sprague?

  • that was amazing. wow. i had no idea what the outcome was when i saw this clip, and watching it, i never would have guessed she would have come up with it under the gun. i had to watch that part twice.

  • yes, its describing the catergory instead of listing.

  • "Words with a hyphen"? I would have expected a clue THAT difficult to be in a final $100,000 game. <-- when i read ur comment i thought the same thing at first but then when i looked at the clip a few times i realized that even if she was given the more obvious hyphenated words, it wouldn't have registered with the contestant to be thinking of that answer- i've gotten about two hours of sleep in the last three days so i dont know if what i just said made any sense- lol

  • in you description u said the contestant is playing for 10,000 dollars but shes playing for 100,000.

can't believe she got the last one. good job!

  • disregard last comment i watched it again and actually listed to dick clark this time ahahahah

  • "Words with a hyphen"? I would have expected a clue THAT difficult to be in a final $100,000 game. Geez....

  • Hyphen just came out of her mouth, but CLEARLY in time.

  • The last clue is almost always next to impossible to describe. Hilarious! I would have said 'topsy-turvy' and 'so-so', but that's me talking with the benefit of having pressed 'pause' on the video and thought about it. :-)

  • Have you seen the "$10,000 Pyramid" clip when Billy Crystal set the record for going to the top of the pyramid the fastest? I guess even he was surprised his partner got it on the first clue. The subject was "things that wilt" and the only clue given was "old flowers".

  • That was The $20,000 Pyramid.

  • That was billy crystal? I know where that clip is!

  • Mother-in-law? Father-in-law? Sister-in-law? Are these correct clues?

  • Yeah, but I'm sure she would have said "Relatives" or something like that.

  • twenty-one

    merry-go-round

  • She said "hyphen" with one second left. If she didn't say that, "black market" wouldn't have been a legal clue, I believe.

  • Mmm... it's wouldn't be legal on "Password". It would work if you use "black market" as an adjective (Black-market smugglers), but not as a noun (...sold on the black market).

  • Now that I look at it, you're right. Black market, when hyphenated, could be used that way.

  • I believe that hyphen rule applies to any two-word noun that can become an adjective (like I just did). I'm not sure how much use it would have as a clue however.

  • You can put full episodes on VEOH if you have any.

  • Jamie Farr was a real good celebrity.

  • I was rooting for Jamie. I was saying, come on, you can give great clues. And she somehow got it. Incredible.

  • Jamie said "Black Market," and that isn't a hyphenated word...

  • HOW???

How did she pull that one off?

  • You have anymore Pyramid wins (CLARK ONLY)?

  • Not sure. youtube discontinued .rm files a few months ago.

  • That was a tough 1.

  • Hyphenated words. Man, that's a killer. This show really tested your brain. I remember someone winning $100K by getting "Things that are enshrined".

  • WHOA! Another close one!

  • How did she get HYPHEN, poor Jamie was struggling for 28 seconds?

  • Oh, God the shoulder pads.

  • Great Post!!!

  • Just in time!
