No one of here has posted why electric cars arent wide spread...its because their range(obviously) and then those batteries are going to last forever they die eventualy and they cost a TON to replace....i mean after like 10years of recharging and stuff they wont hold as much charge like how your laptop looses its 8hour battery life and it keeps ~4hrs after a year or two of usage.

it's a great car and a historic car and I'm a huge EV fan and promotor but Tesla as a company doesn't appear to be viable. they apparently spent around 300.000$ for each Roadster they have made.. and the model S appears to be a similarly costly bet. I'm afraid it wont sell 10k units per year and they'll buckle under the weight of the half billion dollar debt. maybe someone else will buy them out or they'll restructure under bankruptcy and come back but they should have gone light and lean.

For 100k, I'd buy a Lambo or a Ferrari. You'd get more stares on the road! Was on the highway today and I was behind a Tesla today. It was pretty nice..I am not going to lie..but not worth 100k. I still don't think there aint no silverbullet-solution for EVs but I believe you have to start somewhere. I wanna promote and support Tesla Motors because I truly believe in the concept and I love clean energy technology. You did notice that they were sold out in the middle of 2009? The gas went up to 145 dollars per barrel in 2008 and I think petrol will go up very soon again.

but there is a lithium bullet. the 2 seater tesla weighs 1200kg. a 4meter long fiber canoe that can carry 2 people and heavy cargo in rough weather can weigh 14kg. if you imagine using 4 canoes worth of material it can take on the shape of a car and be quite strong and that's 58kg. similar mentality in the wheels and suspension as well as lean aero and 150kg of high density batteries will spec it like a roadster

I love industry hemp, and I know that people have used hemp in their carpanels before with very succesful results. Someone told me that there's a list of over 27 000+ products which you could make entirely from hemp. Now that's pretty cool. I would love to see more bio-composites in the future used as carbodies.

Massive losses of energy on H cars compared to EV's are; electricity for conversion > 95%, engine heat loss 30%, 50% extra weight of vehicle 50% extra loss. Why 1/ make electricity to 2/ make fuel to 3/ run a heavy complicated engine, when instead you could just 1/ make electricity to 2/ run an electric motor? Transporting, storing & creating H gas would continue to strain resources including fresh water!

I have only learned of Nikola Tesla in the past year..which is very sad. The history books and school curriculum should be changed to reflect the magnificent contributions this man discovered. carbon nanotube batteries are out now. You can fully charge a battery pack of the same size as the teslas in under 20 mins with 240V. They are cheap too with the breakthroughs in carbon nanotube manufacturing. Li-ion is coming down in price and has done so a lot in the last couple of years.
