My family ancestry goes straight back to king harold. A.K.A. "king Bluetooth." My grandfather's last name is Rasmussen, It's cool to see things my ancestors did :)
Ya not really into the history here man - hahaha make a Video and you dont really get it - His name was HARALD - NOT Eric - Eirc was the guy who came to Vinland and Greenland - Harald was the son of Gorm the Sleepy and Thyraé - !!
hi! im very interested in rune stones and skripts. Im traveling around scandinavia to see all of them. I have seen all 2500 rune stones in Sweden and soon im going to Denmark to see all the stones wich are located in Denmark. So could you give me any informacion about it. I need a Danish map with all the locations of rune stones in Denmark. Any informacion would be usefull.
And by the way, Harald was not called "Bluetooth" but "the good". Bluetooth is a name given by later historians and is probably due to a bad translation. Popular history thinks this name was about a bad or missing tooth since the vikings did not differentiate between blue and black. In fact they called the native Africans bluemen (and native American indians were called scraelings).
The small Jelling stone (the oldest of the 2 stones) reads "kurmr kunuk karthi kubl thusi aft thurui kunu sina tanmarkar but". This translates into "kurmr (gorm) king made ornaments these after thurui (thyra) wife his tanmarkar (denmarks) pride. The word "but" has never been properly confirmed but is believed to mean pride although it could mean other things.
The large Jelling stone reads "haraltr kunukr bath kaurua kubl thausi aft kurm fathur sin auk aft thaurui muthur sina sa haraltr ias sar uan tanmaurk ala auk nuruiak auk tani karthi kristna". This translates into "haraltr (harald) king asked done ornaments these after kurm (gorm) father his and after thaurui (thyra) mother his that haraltr as himself won tanmaurk (denmark) all and nuruiak (norway) and tani (the danes) made christian.
This is totally wrong. Gorm was the last true pagan king and he died in the winter of 958/959. His son, Harald, tried to make the Danes christian but the people was hard to convince. The last viking king is considered to be Svend Estridsen and he died around 1074. To this day, christinity is still a wannabe religion in Denmark and is really only used for name givings, weddings and funerals. Very few people actually believe in it and even less attend church.
@drummaryan No you dont, for christ sake, do you even know how many danes are called Rasmussen for their last name?
