And.. Pernell Roberts? Pernell Roberts was forgotten in this video. Pernell passed away in January 24, 2010 (Pernell Roberts Filmography: Movies and Series 122 // Series Bonanza-(Adam Cartwright) Episodes:202 // Series Trapper John MD-Episodes: 151)
This is the original sound track with TCM remembers 2010. This is the best sound track by far. There is another with the same title with a much inferior sound track- a bland and generic "filler" kind of music.
Wonderful Tribute. Life is so fleeting. Live each day as if it were your last. Write that book, song, screenplay. Direct that film. Travel. Just Do It Right.
What I don't like about the Oscars/Emmys tributes are the applause and cheers - more for those who are known because of reruns and the media or because they were pretty vs older contributors or contributors who were not in front of the camera. My thing is that that the applause should be for everyone in the reel or there shouldn't be any at all. In these TCM tributes - everyone is given equal weight - Sally Menke and David Brown get the same treatment as Dennis Hopper and Tony Curtis.
TCM has such a fine tribute to those in the film industry who have passed away. I am 78 years of age, and I have seen most of the actors and the works of many of those not directly in the camera. Thank you for these fine tributes to a group of very skilled actors, actresses, directors and all of those who have made my life more pleasant through their talents and skill in the movie industry!
Every time an actor or actress from Hollywood's Golden Age dies, I gasp. Almost all the Old Guard are gone, now we're seeing the passing of people who were the last of the big studio contract players from the 1950s starting to pass away. It's so sad - many times I feel like I'm losing an old friend. I spent lots of time with them at the little 3rd run movie theater my grandmother ran watching them over and over on that long vanished movie screen. Thank you for posting this.
@oldflix4me So true, with Elizabeth Taylor and Patricia Neal gone most of the contract players from the forties and fifties have vanished from this earth only to haunt us on TCM. With only Olivia DeHavilland, Joan Fontaine and 100 year old Luise Rainer there is virtually no one left. I grew up watching old hollywood movies as a teenager 30 years ago just to see 75%-85% of them pass since. So sad! This song is devastating accompanied by the clips. BRAVO TO TCM!!!!!!!
@bitchslppd65 Sorry Luise Rainer is 101. also Mickey Rooney, Deanna Durbin, Shirley Temple, Ann Rutherford, Maureen O'Hara are all still with us - 1930s stars. Esther Williams, Arlene Dahl, Gloria De Haven, Audrey Totter are still with us good bless them all.
I love how TCM's year-end memorials are always beautiful, stand-alone music videos. And of course it's impossible not to watch these and begin to cry midway through. Beautifully done.
Meinhardt Raabe you see, the munchin coroner from the "wizard of oz". he appeared in the film for a mere 13 seconds (on timing), died in April that year at age 94, not only was he one of the last people assossiated with the film but SADLY he was also THE LAST ACTOR WITH ANY LINES of the film.
When I was younger I walked into a barber's shop and said to the barber "cut my hair like Tony Curtis" When he'd finished I said "Tony Curtis' doesn't wear his hair like that!" The barber replied " He would if he came in here!"
I say this every year: if the Oscars can't get it right and show respect to *all* these stars, not just a selected few for "time purposes", then they need to scrap the "In Memorium" segment all together. I mean, come on, ABC! You left out John Forsythe? He only starred in two of ABCs most memorable shows (Charlie's Angels and Dynasty)
Those idiots at the oscars “claim” they did not have the time to honor everyone. They sure made certain that they had the time to honor Leni Riefenstahl, a Nazi filmmaker in their memoriam, back in 2004. Damn shame!!! They are worse than I had thought : (
Corey Haim should have been included on the Oscars! Why don’t we call the Oscars out on their blatant disrespect? We can post our comments on their website (email address below). It most likely won’t change anything, but after a stunt like that, they should hear what we have to say. contact@oscars.org.
What may help with TCM is that they acknowledge actors (male/female) , directors, producers, writers. they don't acknowledge agents, publicists (no Ronnie Chasen). Sometimes I think the Oscars and other shows should just cut the in memoriam because someone will be left out and I hate the applause gauge---some get wild applause some get a trinkle & the show already runs 3+ hourse. They should just leave it to the pros @ TCM.
Why was Corey Haim, Eddie Fisher, the girl who played Sacrlet and Brett's daughter from Gone With The Wind, Jean Simmons, John Forsythe, and Peter Graves left out of the Oscars Memoriam?
@xxxWarriorGoddessxxx why would the Oscars put in Cammie King? only noted for that one film appearance, they try to select carefully. do you want Mienhardt Raabe (munchin coroner, last actor from the Wizard of Oz with any lines) in as well??
They did cut out a lot of people, just for the sake of keeping time, and that Lena Horne tribute, very subpar. Whoever produces these should produce the Oscars.
Congrats to TCM for actually including EVERYONE ! This is how you do a memorial, The Oscars need to take tips from TCM ! If you seen last nights Oscars awards they left out so many people its a disgrace. Thanks for uploading this...
I just adore Barbara Billingsley RIP my dear. Very interesting how TCM chose Airplane! for her tribute bit. So sad that we lost 3 in a row AIrplane! stars too, God bless them all. Goodbye x
Everytime I see this on TCM or even just hear the song representing it, I get very teary-eyed. The song is so moving and beautiful, and put with the clips of those lost but not forgotten is so emotional. It's the perfect tribute to the great ones. I applaude TCM.
@pernelldh Their reasoning is probably because they were all, besides Blake Edwards (what a mistake of an omission!), were known primarily for tv and the majority of their work was done on television. Isn't that the excuse the Oscars gave for omitting Farrah last year?
@mybutterpecanbutt ~ Yes, all the 'remembered' are classic movie actors/producers/directors..My guess is that Blake Edwards was passing on just as the final cut of tcm's remembrance was coming hot-off-the-presses this year..ironic isn't it?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@pernelldh ~ Gary Coleman??? Sad, yes, but could we even call him a 'classic tv actor'? ...hmm.. to some, perhaps... personally his redundant "Whatchyoutalkin'bout Willis?" didn't send me...at least after a couple of seasons of the show. I'd say he's more a tragic, fallen tv star, than a classic one.
@MIKESOWELL ...career? hmm.. well, he did manage to get his name in the news, {lawsuits, dating stunts, etc.}, and his fast-cash commercials through the years, but I always thought it was sad he couldn't put more of his quick wit, {rather than quick temper}, to a more positive use. - It seems that the "Diff'rent Strokes" producers didn't have much of a protective stance toward their child actors all together. I'm glad Todd Bridges finally came through alright.
What I loved about TCM's tribute is that it seemed very thorough; they paid homage to character actors and forgotten silent stars as well as the legends. That being said, this tribute seems a little short; missing are Brittany Murphy, Rue McClanahan, Maury Chaykin, Christopher Cazanove, Corin Redgrave, and Andreas Voutsinas (hilarious as "Carmen Ghia" in Mel Brooks' The Producers).
Better than last year's TCM Remembers, they last one was so quick. I thought they were gonna put Brittany Murphy in this one since she died in late December 2009 and she couldn't be included in the last year's tribute. They did to Eartha Kitt when she died on Christmas Day 2008 and she was included in the 2009 one. This one is just beautiful.

@AntigoneAeterna They should include Blake in this one, they did for Jennifer Jones and she died like the same week TCM Remembers 2009 came out and they included her like 3 days later.
They brought us cinematic glee, laughter, adventure, nostalgia, ❤, fear, rage, excitment, anger, tears of sadness & tears of joy which we will reflect infinitely. If you don't slightly choke back something in your throat watching this thoughtful ode to our films iconic parted, you probably have No Soul!
