The fact that Rimbunan Hijau even exists in PNG is because of corruption within the Govt itself. Let them in for an easy Buck....the government seems as if it doesn't care about the people of PNG, only to make money. They even said in the video that the ministers aren't even present in the province. This is seen almost everywhere, infrastructure such as roads and hospitals are almost non existent in areas such as western province itself. Hopeless government or what?
The SBS reporter who did this story is an embarrassment to jounalism. It is a neo-colonism reporting that constantly published selective and untruthful reports to destroy the attempts of the developing countries to progress. I totally agree with miblopng. I have lived in PNG for 11 years and still am...
I think the narrator was wrong to say or imply that Western Province is the poorest and least developed. There is no scale to measure which province is the poorest or least developed...OK Tedi mine is in Western province and the people get more benefits than others in other provinces that have no mines or means to gain from...its the lack of manageing finance that is poor in Western province...my views.
