  • This music will forever stand the test of time because of its eclecticism and raw power of expression. I can't think of any band that I could say I love more unconditionally, except for perhaps the Grateful Dead. I hate my generation and its ear shattering garbage it deigns to call music. I'm 20, I knew at 14 that the ABB was the best I'd ever hear. I rue the day I'm proven wrong.

  • All this magic because Gregg bought his brother a bottle of coricidin pills in 1968.

Cuts me to very soul everytime I hear it. This is the song that made me want to learn to play. No one will ever play slide with the feeling Duane did.

And what's with the 1 freakin deaf person that dosen't get it.

  • @monslayer probably preferred the live version....

  • This is as bluesy as it gets. Gonna see Greg at the Bluesfest in kitchener Lookin foward to it.

  • thanks for the post.........sends chills slap up my spine !!!!!!!

  • The original Allman Brothers Band lineup are literally the most talented group of musicians to ever play together. From Freight train Trucks killing it, to Jaimo's crazy rhythmic fills, Duanes uncanny ability to play anything guitar, to Dickey Betts amazing writing, to Gregg Allmans amazing Vocals and Lyrics and Songwriting, not to mention Barry Oakley's running basslines, Mountain Jam for god sakes. Just amazing! The fillmore east is the best live album of all time!

  • i met a guy once who told me (when the topic of ABB came up) "y'know i once hung out backstage with the allman brothers. my life has been downhill ever since."

  • RIP with angels Duane Allman... 39 years gone today (29/10/2010) but we will never forget you and your music. The road goes forever...

  • Ooops! what's that! SRV vs ABB band! little bit weird,as both gave us so much.

Let's go out of the field & listen to Taj Mahal version with the great Jesse Ed Davis ( RIP)

  • yes nice

  • excellent

  • Wow,, Duane...... Amazing

  • These videos were put together from many different shows as you can see the clothing and hairstyle/length changes on the guys. The ABB is my all time favorite band---no one else even comes close to mixing Rock/Country/Jazz/Blues like they do!!!!! RIP Duane Allman and Berry Oakley---The Road Goes On Forever.............

  • Duane, certainly in top the 5 to 10 most missed musicians. Right up there with the lost of Jimi and Stevie Ray as far as I'm concerned. I can't even imagine where those cats playing would be now.

  • Nothing can describe Duane Allman better than a force of nature, and the members of ABB, the same coudl be said of them. I feel it's just amazing the story of the brothers their father murdered in their early childhood, how they were sent away to a strict school and then how somewhere along the line THIS! Just pure excellence

  • @dimesy94 man your right. Music is from the soul. and thats where all there music came from. 100% force of nature.

  • jus dont get much betta

  • Boy ain't chu right on!

  • is that Greg singing? Nice footage of the band

  • Praise the Lord for The Allman Brothers Band, the best southern rock band in the whole country! RIP Duane Allman, but his slide guitar performance will be remembered for eternity. ABB is the world's greatest!!!

  • I like the English band's version better

  • i'd give my right arm to see the old concert footage in its entirety, its quite good video quality too.

the original live version takes some beating though

  • i love this raw guitar sound! what other songs are like this, they dont have to be allman brothers

  • yeah dude, never heard anything familiar

  • stevie ray vaughan? this song is sorta in the same vein as pride and joy, imo.

  • well this song came out in 71 so get the years straight

  • oh hahah i forgot about this

  • SRV is nothing like the ABB

  • @salty7121

In SRV's defense he doesn't have quite the band ABB does or did i should say

also hes quite a guitar player you have to admit

  • @CCRockit ya he is fabulous I love srv but I think abb and him are a very different thing

  • @salty7121

    right.

  • @salty7121 ya duane is a completely different kind of monster

  • @salty7121 Have you ever seen how fast SRV played, and how fast and well he played, but still sounded good while doing it ? and what gauge string's he used ? ... course i don't like to rate artists, which is what your doing. All have different styles, and plus they were years apart. SRV performed from around 1983 - 1990 .. Duane was in the 60s - early 70s. B.B. KING - " A fantastic black Blues in a white man's body " .. talking about SRV. Buddy Guy - " This is how Blues should be played "

  • @salty7121 What the Fuck is the point of comparing to great blues guitarist's who are dead?

  • How about Blues Traveller?

  • Carolina Blues by Blues Traveller comes close, but it's more the raw harmonica than guitar, but still a rockin' good song!

  • This is THE REAL DEAL !!!!

    ROCK n ROLL at its BEST....ROCK-ON A.B.B.

  • Duane Allman is a god. Did you know that when he did Statesboro Blues he never played slide before?

  • Not correct, Duane had been slide for quite a while, probably since he and Gregg were in California. The story goes that Duane was sick with the flu or a clod and Gregg brought Duane a bottle or Coriceden cold tablets and a LP of Taj Mahal with Jesse ed Davis and Ry Cooder playing Statesboro Blues. Duane used the Coricedin bottle for slide while he was sick in bed. Plus there are quite a few sessions even before the ABB that duane played slide on. Check out Duane Allman Anthology Vol 1 & 2.

  • R.I.P. Duane Allman!

His music will live forever :D

This guitar sound is so signature and beautiful!!!

  • agrteed.

  • Holy crap!! I remember watching this on TV when it was first broadcast in '72/'73! This was filmed about 2 weeks before bassist Berry Oakley died in a motorcycle accident. This is both sweet and sad.
