Migraine Auras - a perceptual cornucopia of experience

I have migraine with aura. I get visual disturbances and olfactory hallucinations. The visual disturbances resemble that weird distortion you get on TV when someone wears a houndstooth pattern. The smell is that deep fryer/french fry smell that permeates fast food restaurants.

Like you, I can tell that my visual disturbances aren't real, but I can't tell the difference between my olfactory hallucinations and a real smell.

I'm a little bit confused....do you mean that you have a migraine aura all the time? I don't think I could live like that but humans are really quite clever at adapting to most situations. As for me, I started having migraine auras this year. The visual disturbance lasts for about 15 minutes and I am left with a dull ache on the right side of my head. Not nice when it happens at work.

aura is actually a simple partial seizure in the condition of Epilepsy. They are unique but both happen before the episode itself. Confusing for me dealing with two condition that have aura lol.

Nice job. I am deaf-blind (with residual of both) and I also have epilepsy (complex partial seizures) and migraine with aura. I find that migraines and epilepsy are co-morbid in many people. My migraines became worse here recently so I've been trying to find people like myself and share story and insight.

I have aura for both seizures and migraine. They are both different and usually come up suddenly and last several minutes before my seizure and an half to full hour before a migraine. Seizure

Yeah, my auras only last like 45 fucking minutes and it's like i'm fucking blind, either its a nice 1 or its really frickin bad. depression, nausea, dizzyness, and all. But they usually last from a day to a month.

I have the aura without the migraine. I have one eye, goldenhar syndrom, I had 2 retina surgeries that failed. After the first I started getting this. Because of retina disease my retina doesn't get rid of the light easily. I get vertigo, loss of appatite, intermitent depression, ageatated, I get this with the aura. My auras can last for 2 days. Mine's bad to where you see light everywhere.

I agree as well'.. I have had this since I was kid every other years., But know I am older and they come every 6 month's or so'.. I get the blurriness first, 20 min then I get a Big Strong Headache that makes me feel Week, And nausea, Vomiting.. So i have to sleep The whole day .. I do get scaired if I have to drive or Work.. Or in the middle of something-- But, I guess I am not the only one'.. I am glad' Is something Normal.... Migrane with aura..

I get both aura with and without the headache. All different types of aura. I used to get many more headache after the aura but through meditation and medicinal mushrooms/herb, they have turned into mostly aura without the headache. These aura are still life affecting without the pain, as you describe. Yes sometimes I experience stuff like you are describing in your video.

Oh my goodness, I thought I was the only one who experienced this. I've had this forever, I'm 18 and have experienced this for 18 years. I remember explaining this to my doctor once, and she had no idea what I was talking about lol.

That was amazing, thank you so much for your post! For 12 years I have had this, I am almost 31, I don't deal well with mine because of the Vertigo I get with theses. I will feel so ill, weak, sick to my tummy and see what I call oil spill colors in the top of my vision or off the the side. I have bad floaters also and have freaked myself into thinking I have brain cancer or something else bad. Sounds and light bring on the Vertigo even more, I gave this 5 stars thanks again for posting this!!

holy fuck my migraine starts with a blurring thing in my vision then after maybe 20-30 mins. one side of my head fucking aches so much...angeleyes79gs is right,, you just gotta sleep it off or kill your self...

My migranes start with aura, 30 minutes later i get the horrific headache, then comes vomiting, the best way I try and get over this killer headache is to sleep it off, you would have to experience migranes to understand, everyone has them different...

i have much of what u say as well as aura with headache too. much of it has always triggered panic attacks for me. how have u accepted and embraced these so well? amazing. i think i could learn alot from u. one q. do u ever wake up with auras? perceptual ones....

I've had ocular migraines since I was 31. I am 48 now, and experience them 6 to 8 times per year. I never ever have head pain but only aura--extreme sensitivity to light before the visual black hole and bright jagged lights get really disturbing. Before I was diagnosed, I thought I was going blind! It is not an uncommon thing my ophthalmologist told me. They never last longer than 20-25 minutes. Why they happen, I just don't know!

That's a pretty interesting experience. It's like you have full control of your senses. Me, I just get aura and and agonizing headache during a migraine. And it interferes with my sight. I can't control it. I've never tried and I hope I will never be able to again because my migraine headaches just suck.

wow thats awesome cause I didnt know what those headachs where. but people I have told said that is sounds like Im haveing a migran.. but I know Im not.. but its a feeling you just dont get. I started to call them psychic headachs. in my case I get shooting pains in my head randomly all over my head.. and it could last for a second in one area and them move toanother and last a min or so. but I do have psychic experience with it all my life. I can feel what others feel and I have telepathy
