Since this video, I've actually switched to an Invidia N1 Street setup. It has pretty much the exact same sound, it's just a bit quieter.

Luckily, I was able to find a G200 midpipe for sale, which is the same at the Invidia N1 Street midpipe. Therefore, I was able to keep the axleback. I actually still have the race midpipe; maybe one day I'll switch back.

I've noticed that the N1 Street makes the exhaust note sound a bit deeper, which actually sounds very nice.

@lilstahlly22 Since I updated this video last I've actually taken off the N1 Street setup, along with removing my Helix catted DP. I found a great deal on an APS 3" R1 TBE (catted), so I picked it up and swapped it onto my car. The sound of the APS is much more tolerable for a daily driver in my opinion. However, it definitely still opens up when you get on it.

@lilstahlly22 The N1 catback is a great exhaust - but after 3 years of daily driving with the same loud sound - it can get a bit annoying. To answer your question more specifically - yes, there were times where I'd be driving with the N1 street at 2am coming home, and I'd be afraid of waking up the neighbors. (Read: N1 street is loud)

@lilstahlly22 Cruising on the highway, there is definitely plenty of drone - and catless would only make this worse. In fact, highway drone is what pushed me to search for something quieter. 07 STi's actually have better boost control than previous year STi's. This is due to the fact that 07's have VF-43 turbos, which have slightly larger internal wastegates, when compared to the previous year VF-39's.

Cobb recommends a catted downpipe for their off the shelf maps. With a protune, you can run anything you want, as long as your tuned for it.

Oh and better yet an external wasegate will also solve the boost creep :] Hi flow cats will do an ok job for a mild tune or if ur running a stock turbo on low rpms but when ur around 4-5k it will choke your car a bit.

just wanted to tell 07 STI guys that are replacing their factory downpipe to get a CATTED downpipe to reduce the risk of boost creep/spike, if you do plan on getting a catless DP instead you might want to also consider getting an external wastegate to eliminate boost creep. STI FOREVER...AND COBRAS FTW! :]

If your going to replace the downpipe, you pretty much have to get engine management as well. The two go hand in hand. The Cobb accessport is nice, but I'm actually no longer using mine, and I've moved to opensource. With that said, your best off getting a custom tune done, which can be tuned to eliminate boost creep, even with a catless downpipe.

An external wastegate will do the trick too, but it's a bit overkill for the stock turbo.
