  • I nominate "Aspergery Weirdness" for next name of a Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor.

  • @crazyelephantofdoom I'm not saying the revision won't happen, I just think that to group it into one condition will make it harder to diagnose, since it affects people in completely different ways. I'm just against it, that's all. What does it mean if you have Asperger's, does the revision mean we all have to get diagnosed again? As to the relationship hetween having AS and being smart, I can't say much, as I don't know the IQ of the people I know with AS, or high funtioning autism.

  • I was snapping my fingers thinking, "She might've died in childbirth..." and freaked out when I was right. But the real comment I wanted to make was something along the lines of: How did they get away with a question like that? Obviously they were just trying to get him off the show... I'm glad he proved himself regardless. I'd hate to play Jeopardy against him though.

  • He doesn't seem weird to me. Then again, I too, have Aspergers. He seems ok to me and therein lies the isolation. To those neurotypicals, he is 'weird' but to those who are in the same boat, we can't see anything weird or odd about him. I have tried my entire life to 'fit in' with the ignorant and dull masses but it has proven quite difficult so now, I spend most of my time alone. Which leads one right back to the classic autistic isolation. I'm beginning to meet others like me, though.

  • @FredericaBimble shut up aspie.

  • @thinkingabout0 The revision IS just calling it all autism. Autism is usually synonymous with autism spectrum disorder, not autistic disorder. Someone with Asperger's has mild to moderate autism, they don't have mild autistic disorder. Autism = catagory Autistic disorder = diagnosis.

Anyway, Asperger's doesn't make you smart, it just makes you 'not intellectually impaired' and once you take that into account the corelation between AS and IQ is negative.

  • thumbs up if cracked brought you here

  • @carmend1665 oh, how precious. The redneck bigot is attempting to wax intellectual. Tell me, what's narnia like?

  • @25tab This comment made my day

  • my point is that having low levels of autism and having AS are not the same thing, otherwise surely the revision would just call it autism? I'm not challenging that they're changing it, maybe it will help the stigma of being associated with either condition, but I believe you're making the mistake to assume one is exactly like the other, which is such a huge obstacle for people with AS to deal with.

  • "If you are saying that there is barely any difference between low levels of autism and AS" There isn't. Quoting the DSM V's revisions on Autism/Aspergers "distinctions among disorders have been found to be inconsistent over time," Therefore they are merging Autism/AS and others into Autism spectrum disorder. That's not my opinion, that's the APA's opinion, which is the only opinion that matters in that case, as they literally make the rulebook on psychiatry.

  • Am I the only one who got strangely aroused by him mumbling to himself at the end?

  • talk about aspergery weirdness. wooooo

  • Died in childbirth, totes knew that and didn't need to recite the poem under my breath 10 times :D

  • Impressive! Imagine this stuff on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire! They'd just stare blankly.

  • Yeah. Looks like aspergers to me. Totally not just an intellectual deep in thought.

    :/

  • @selty Aspergers = A name people who are only kind of smart give to ultra-geniuses. Its not their fault. Smart people like to act above this, but they arent. They are infact terrified of those smarter than them. Take this with a grain of salt, but its information youre getting from someone diagnosed with aspergers after they couldnt find any way I could have cheated those 99th percentile scores. Intelligence has become their only attribute of note. They will not relinquish it lightly.

  • @etherraichu You sound like you've been fed some sort of "having Aspergers makes you special" potion your whole life.

  • @selty Also: Note I am not exempt from such a state. I just recognize its existence. I recognize it because I hate that jerk who learned icelandic in a week. The huge math folks I point out as infunctinal databases that are like worthles computers that age. Though you probably wont see much of this. Smart people like insults that arent obvious insults. Like calling some quack or religious nutjob's ideas "Not Even Wrong." I consider it a win when they think they were complimented.

  • @etherraichu - You may wish to look up the theory of 'closed and open' minds. You have given us two indications that you are of the 'closed' mind variety. And, no, that isn't an insult. It is just the way your mind works. The only place I've seen reference to the research is by Kevin Dutton, author of 'Flipnosis'. Instead of wanting to know 'how' that 'jerk' learned Icelandic, you 'hate' him. You insult people and call it 'a win'. You aren't as intelligent as you think you are, my friend.

  • Anyone else know Roy G Biv? Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet? lol

  • I think they label too many people with aspergers and bipolar as well. I have met people with both. I mean people really with the disease. Just because someone is a little odd, overly intelligent does not mean they have aspergers. Or if they are overly passionate and get angry. That does not mean they are bipolar. Todays society would label Einstein as having aspergers. lol

  • @thewulfone Psychiatric labels are music to Big Pharma's ears.

  • @thewulfone to be fair, and ignoring my snide remakrs above, there are actual symptoms. one of my favorite lines about asperger comes from wikipedia: "they approach others, even if awkwardly. For example, a person with AS may engage in a one-sided, long-winded speech about a favorite topic, while misunderstanding or not recognizing the listener's feelings or reactions." thats abotu right. In my case, I notice the emotion in others. I just dont have the first clue how to respond.

  • @etherraichu Fun fact; In two years the wikipedia entry for Asbergers will redirect to Autism Spectrum disorder. That's because there's little to no differentiation between low levels of Autism and AS.

  • I like his aspergery weirdness.

  • It's easy when you know the rhyme, "Divorced, beheaded, died; divorced, beheaded, survived." Although I have no clue what their names were.

  • @Pedgerow And people ask me how I know those kind of things. Third grade rhyming tricks never go out of style.

  • I don't like his aspergery weirdness.

  • @hip2besquare38 From Cracked's editors to your keyboard. CHEATER! :P

  • @OeditpusRex Mr. Rex, you're a real motherfucker, you know that?

  • @mdcowboy15 Yup. :)

  • @hip2besquare38 lol Cracked?

  • @k28xl obviously not.

  • @k28xl Cracked indeed.

  • @hip2besquare38 You have just ... Cracked me up.

  • @hip2besquare38 it should be noted that Stempel wasn't actually that weird in reality. The show's producers created the image of a nebbishy, awkward "square" in order to first make home audiences sympathize with him, and then root against him.

  • Cracked!

  • cracked

  • lol all you people saying he was given the answers are morons. Herb was the one who the producers were trying to get rid of because he knew everything but drove down ratings. Charles was the one who was given the answers.

  • i like the little jew bastard lulz

  • music to my right ear LOL

  • @uranne That's the first time I've ever been informed by youtube that I'm wearing the my earphone in the wrong ear. =P

  • @uranne - Brilliant... I laughed so hard at your comment.

  • Hes forgotten what the producer told him prior to the show!

  • "now there's a face for radio"

  • It was obvious that he had been given the answer and was "acting" like he was laboring over it.

  • And did you tell everyone in 1956?

  • Is this 2000, or 1950s?

  • December 1956.

  • yeah that episode from was September 4th 2000

  • No, the show ended in May 2000.

And the specific airdate is 12/5/56.

  • @floridapanthersroar are you that stupid?

  • What made Herb lose was that, after this question, it was time for the contestant to choose if they want to stop the game.

Charles wanted to stop, and he won.

  • I could tell, because as the video ended, Charles's booth had it's 'on the air' turned on, when Herb's is still on.

  • WHO HOOO!!! FIRST COMMENT!!! I think that was the funniest one liner I've ever heard from a game show contestant. Also, unlike everything else, that wasn't scripted. Well they all died :)
