he is describing post-postmodernism as pseudo-modernism/performativism. summarizes the mini-consensus on the issue in a minute sharp. good for ppl with short attention spans. =)
Post-postmodernism to me isn't so much people finding meaning, as it is MEANING finding meaning. It is a means of taking out the "ultimate" in philosophy, and turning the word "truth" into something less dogmatic. It isn't something self-evident or autonomous but is a system whereby it needs OTHER truths to exist.
i am reminded of Nietzsch'e intoxicating vision - the condiion that seems to be part of many nervous disorders.
"extreme mobility that turns into an extreme urge to communicate, the desire to speak on a part of everything that knows how to make *signs* - the need to get rid of oneself through signs and gestures, ability to speak of oneself through a hundred speech media, an explosive condition"
(from introducing aesthetics by christopher kul-want)
A definition of irony is that this guy is using youtube to make pointed criticisms of social networking sites. Really though, what's the difference between a digital reality and physical reality...beyond the obvious ones. I would say there isn't really one --except that one is more compressed and flash frozen than the other.
This is satire right? I really don't want to be one of those people that doesn't get the joke.
No joke to get. The system of social networking and youtube works, but it is used and glued together with a form of narcissism and self-referencing. Irony is a emotion that according to psychology tries to uplift oneself to appear more better. Still, irony can be justified. Off topic, I've noticed, some people try to apply literary cricism to science, which is one of the most pathological features of some of the postmodernism, including the fact that postmodernism is a culture-only discerner.
Well, in order for satire to be valid, there must be some truth in satire to begin with. I think we've played so fast and loose with the term "satire" that it's often hard to tell when they're telling the truth even when they call it "satire."
the conversation he is having with us is a postmodern one. not a postpostmodern one. his fears of the comming simulated world is the fear that drives pm thought. not a rebelion against it, not an answer to it.
I think you're right: that sounded like a proposal for postpostmodernism and fear. However, the obvious was stated: narcissism is arguebly a part of a part of post-modernism, especially babyboomers and the associated condicion called boomeritis. His was just a proposal for post-postmodernism, while some people like me claim that there is a vMeme (value meme) that essentially is post-postmodernism, also known as the integral movement that proposes an evolution of consciousness and culture.
The end of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, where he is staring at a wall with a cigerette in his mouth. Spun out on quality. I'm spun out on efficiency. I'd like to dedicate a screen staring moment to Terbo and Michael. Care the screen. Amen.
Exactly, it is not about us anymore. We are in a trance. We won't make it near 4.5 billion years so who cares. Yes, who cares? To be most efficient I need to put caring aside. But then when it comes time to care, we find ourselves writing about it on YouTube. Odd, and that is what I love the most about the Continental non-analytic tradition that can look strange situations in the face and describe them in terms of faciality.
Reading a book called The End of Everything. And one part talks about Jameson's obsession with the Sun going out in 4.5 billion years and to survive this event is the ultimate goal of life. To do this, thought will have to continue without a body. And thinking about this thought, with nobody, it would be an efficient thought, the most efficient thought. But when we can make ourselves on YouTube how much efficient thinking do we need or require.
I'm talking to myself, not even talking. Do you the screen care? No, you are a screen and project light. If everyone I care about is through this screen, do I care about the screen as much as I care for them?
Yes. Because once the digital connection is established, it is more accessible. And because it is more accessible, I become more accessible (to the digital connections). It perpetuates until one day I realize I spend most of my waking life in front of a PC monitor. Looking back at history, there are certainly worst fates. And all I/we would have to do is unplug. Sit and stare at a wall and count the breath. But we live in a community, a community seduced. What can I say right now?

The Postmodernism Generator is a computer program that automatically generates postmodern essays. Gramatically correct but meaningless.
Now watch a college language student reviewing a computer generated essay. He has no clue of its true origin.
A must see.

A less stubborn form of objectivity maybe.

why does it say post post modern on the screen?
jplanchua 4 years ago
Because it is a postpostmodern criticism of postmodernism.
