She does lay on the Us Against Them pretty thick, but musically she seems to be a strong writer. As a straight man I prefer more universal themes. Ferron or Cris Williamson come to mind.
While it's true I like Alix Dobkin's music, in general, she does regardless sound like she has a hate on for men. It's possible she had a cruddy hetero marriage. Her daughter appears with her on the back of the "Love and Politics" CD.
I saw Alix perform in Tucson about 1987, with my girlfriend, and immediately fell in love with her music. I still have 3 of her cassettes...just need to transfer them to CD so I can listen to them more. Thank you so for posting this one. Love those Lesbians!!
@chessielover Her music seems to imply a dislike for men, though. That's unfortunate. I like her folk style generally but let's face it, not all guys are evil.
I think i was 12 when i first heard this on Howard Stern! So that was about 24 years ago!!! It was the first gay song i ever heard and as young gay kid, i LOVED IT!!!!! still awesome 24 years later!!!
I about wore this out from Lavendar Jane Loves Women. I remember when I had to try to explain to my then nearly three year old daughter why she couldn't run through Seattle streets singing "Every woman can be a lesbian!" in 1977...ah, such wonderful memories...
I live in Mass., too! I'm a guy, but I had lots of lesbian friends in college and that's where I first heard the song. Now I have the entire cd from an old friend. Love it!!
Thanks for that trip down memory lane. I cut my baby dyke teeth on this album when I was in high school falling in love, coming out and generally rabble rousing. I'm still doing all three- weee! What a life! I'm looking for one song that I haven't found yet: "I Only Want to Be With You." Please post if you have it. Bravo!
OMG Sweetie, I'm 50 now and this is the first "Woman's Music" album I bought when I was eighteen and just coming out. What a different world it was. I sobbed tears of joy the day we were given the right to marry in Massachusetts. Thanks so much for the memories!

This song makes being lesbian sound like the best thing on Earth. It's close, to be sure, lol. But what about cheesecake?

@dunkinqueen Lavender Jane Loves Women was the first and only 'woman's music' album that I ever bought. I still have it, but no record player.
I had forgotten about this song.
