This is the most horrible interpretation of the Topological Psychic Structure that Freud developed. No wonder why people hate Freud so much. However, it is their fault to take everything as granted and not going to study his writings (not only his books but also his publications) that they misinterpret Freud and his Psychoanalytic theory that is not dead. It is still alive, just look at your closer cities, states, and/or countries.

Maybe I got it wrong at the time, but what I thought I remembered learning about Freud's id/ego/superego structure went something like the following:

Ego = I want "it"

Superego = Okay, but there're rules governing what we're allowed to do to obtain "it"

Id = "It"

...with the "it" representing what the thing we're trying to have represents to our unconcsious. It's been more than 20 years since having it explained to me in this way, but that's what I think I remember.
