Gran Turismo 5 fail so hard by not putting an endurance save option, specially for le mans and nurburgring, both 24 hours. People don´t complain in 4 since you can use b-spec mode + 4x time speed up, making those races not a true pain on that game. But in GT5, it sucks. Test Drive Le Mans sure is much ahead of it´s time cause of weather effect and day>night thing.
Its funny, 24 cars on track at once is still more than any of the Forza or GT. Plus the class competition aspect is excelient. In the PS2 version the pit crew was very well animated, alot better than GT5 considering GT5 does stuff like reaching through wings and fueling cars while still changing tires at the same time during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This should really be remade to cover recent years.
im a girl & i love this game & racing games.i have this game from my pc. but since i have windows vista now... i cant play it for more then 20 minutes cuz it closes on me for some reson. the cd rom has tiny scatches but it played mine on my other pc it was a compaq with the old windows. now i have an acer with windows vista and it doesnt work. i want to get a new game to see if a new cd will work. but if it doesnt i might ot be able to return th game. i miss playing this!

Of course, you could say PS2 has this and that today, but it takes around 4 - 6 full years to get 90%+ out of system power. -Dreamcast did not ever have this change...

@die996 Had the dreamcast been allowed to continue, you would have seen versions on it too, look up the technical specification on the dreamcast, google something called "tile rendering" you're going to be very surprised. The PS2 isn't all that great, remember the fist generation of ps2 games looked inferior to the dreamcast, only years after did they start to look better. Had the dreamcast the chance, it would have consistently out-shined the PS2.

Dude. you sound like a fanboy. I'm no expert but I followed the developers of Test drive le mans a bit on the internet. Some of the programmers went to work on a game called "Grand Prix Challenge" for the ps2. Made in 18 months on the ps2, the game runs at 60fps, has 22 cars on screen, each car having 11000 polygons and tracks are very detail with flags and people waving. Most dreamcast games ran at 30fps including this game. The dreamcast was impressive for its time but
"The ps2 isn't all that great" is an insulting statement, and I don't mean to the ps2 fanboys, i mean to the thousands of programmers and developers who worked hard on the ps2.
In an interview with gamespot for grand prix challenge on the ps2(one of the best underrated unknown f1 games of all time!!!), some of the people who made le mans say they respect the ps2 as an organic machine that is hard to program for but is very versatile and adaptable when done right.
Tile rendering is impressive but what's more impressive are programmers making a console do something the hardware wasn't suppose to even be able to do....like bump mapping! The xbox was supposively the only console able to do extensive bump mapping in games like doom 3 but through clever programming the ps2 was also able to do bump mapping (although extensive use only in one game "Path of neo"). Or 1080i in gt4 with real time reflections. Mipmapping in burnout series etc.
Again i am not an expert, but from what i read on the sega's involvement in the dreamcast dev and tech specs, the dreamcast was pretty much outdated a year after it was released. The dc was based on the naomi 1 arcade system, which is strange because sega released naomi 2 arcade system like a year after the dc released. The naomi 2 is supposively on par with the xbox. IMO they shouldve made the dc based on the naomi 2.

He debunks the common view that the ps2 was an inferior console. In reality most programmers were only using 56% of the ps2 vu1 and only 10% of the ps2's vu0. It was really hard to program for the ps2 and expensive too. But the ps2 vector units were a precursor to the future technologies like the ps3. And we know the ps3 is hard to program too. Though harder to program it had lots of hidden power.
@colonforsecs That tends to be the case for most systems. If you look at early PS3 games you see the same trend. I do agree that it was a shame that the dremcast got nixed. This game, albeit being one of the better looking ones, looks better than a lot of early xbox and ps2 games, and still better than a lot of wii games.
look at that sense of speed....what the new generation racers only dream about. this game really made you drift off into a racing mindset. top 5 racing games of all time here.
you think this is awesome, add the the VGA cable that hooks up to a LCD monitor or an hdtv. The system is capable of peaking at 480p and it looks sexy. Sega did too much for the dreamcast, I just wish they kept at it even after their presidents(or ceo) sudden death :(
This Game was so incredible and got over shadowed by GT series. Back then this game was doing what GT5 is trying to do in their game. Lemans had volumetric lighting, day to night/night to day transitions for the lemans courses. it had 24 cars at one time in races. Also,like GRID/PGR3-4/FORZA-no crap cars like the GT-series. Only high end racing cars. Screw GT overated SONY racing shyt.

Wow an actual 24 hour race, not a sped up "24 hours" like GRID's and it has save points via pitstops while racing. That's a feature Gran Turismo and Forza should copy.
Despite most of America not caring for Le Mans, there are American car companies that do join it like Chevrolet. Btw, if you pronounce "Le Mans" the way you do while in Europe they would either correct or laugh at you.

Awesome game! I have the a dreamcast and it is much more fun and "alive" than any console I have ever tried. MSR, F355 and Le Mans 24 Hr. are some of the best games I know. For simulation still nothing beats F355.
also if youre tinking about the GT4 graphics, about it refflection effects, everithing, let me say that no racing game pushed the Dreamcast, seriosly most people say that MSR looks good and this and that, well that game dont pushed 15% of the Dreamcast power, the only game that pushed a litele by te Dreamcast was test Drive le Mans, pushed 5 Milion Poligons in game in the Dreamcast!
the Dreamast polygons could be pushed to 7 milion and its maximun but this i pushing very hard, it could do 9 milion polygons in game, ofcorse this is much hard to do so most of its games would only run at 7 milion a litle more and thats it, well 7 milion poligons may not sound good, but trust me its emough to run games like Driv3r, Driver Parallel Line, GTA's, God of war and some more, even GT4, also the Dreamcast has better textures then ps2 so thats it
Le Mans 24 Hours (Ultimate Endurance Challenge) as we know it in the UK was one racer that was way, way a head of it's time. The technical wizardry that was put into this has not change much with the evolution we see from driving games of today. Awesome game, very nice if you can display it via the VGA adapter! :)
I <3 my dreamcast, and this game rocks All games are free just download a disk image and burn it using Padus DiskJuggler. No hacking or modding of the Dreamcast required. if u like free games that also happen to be great games, I would highly suggest picking up a Dreamcast now.

the Dreamcast i more powerfull the the ps2 even though there is no very big difrence, the dreamcast can run a special ting caled Tile Based Rendering that makes the Dreamcast only render what youre seing, it kind plays with the polygons, with that you can have better results then in any ps2 game, also the dreamcast has better textures and less jaggyes then ps2 also better resolution, the Dreamcast is superior in effects to, like refletions, light and mostly everithing

the graphics on ps2 , only looks like they are cool because of the anisotropic and antialiasing filtering , most of it's games run at incredible low resolution , like ssx 3 for example , that if i remember , it runs in something like 512x448 , and almost all the dreamcast games run in 640x480 and at 60fps

@die996 Had the dreamcast been allowed to continue, you would have seen versions on it too, look up the technical specification on the dreamcast, google something called "tile rendering" you're going to be very surprised. The PS2 isn't all that great, remember the fist generation of ps2 games looked inferior to the dreamcast, only years after did they start to look better. Had the dreamcast the chance, it would have consistently out-shined the PS2.

Dude. you sound like a fanboy. I'm no expert but I followed the developers of Test drive le mans a bit on the internet. Some of the programmers went to work on a game called "Grand Prix Challenge" for the ps2. Made in 18 months on the ps2, the game runs at 60fps, has 22 cars on screen, each car having 11000 polygons and tracks are very detail with flags and people waving. Most dreamcast games ran at 30fps including this game. The dreamcast was impressive for its time but

"The ps2 isn't all that great" is an insulting statement, and I don't mean to the ps2 fanboys, i mean to the thousands of programmers and developers who worked hard on the ps2.
In an interview with gamespot for grand prix challenge on the ps2(one of the best underrated unknown f1 games of all time!!!), some of the people who made le mans say they respect the ps2 as an organic machine that is hard to program for but is very versatile and adaptable when done right.

Tile rendering is impressive but what's more impressive are programmers making a console do something the hardware wasn't suppose to even be able to do....like bump mapping! The xbox was supposively the only console able to do extensive bump mapping in games like doom 3 but through clever programming the ps2 was also able to do bump mapping (although extensive use only in one game "Path of neo"). Or 1080i in gt4 with real time reflections. Mipmapping in burnout series etc.

Again i am not an expert, but from what i read on the sega's involvement in the dreamcast dev and tech specs, the dreamcast was pretty much outdated a year after it was released. The dc was based on the naomi 1 arcade system, which is strange because sega released naomi 2 arcade system like a year after the dc released. The naomi 2 is supposively on par with the xbox. IMO they shouldve made the dc based on the naomi 2.

He debunks the common view that the ps2 was an inferior console. In reality most programmers were only using 56% of the ps2 vu1 and only 10% of the ps2's vu0. It was really hard to program for the ps2 and expensive too. But the ps2 vector units were a precursor to the future technologies like the ps3. And we know the ps3 is hard to program too. Though harder to program it had lots of hidden power.

@colonforsecs That tends to be the case for most systems. If you look at early PS3 games you see the same trend. I do agree that it was a shame that the dremcast got nixed. This game, albeit being one of the better looking ones, looks better than a lot of early xbox and ps2 games, and still better than a lot of wii games.

you think this is awesome, add the the VGA cable that hooks up to a LCD monitor or an hdtv. The system is capable of peaking at 480p and it looks sexy. Sega did too much for the dreamcast, I just wish they kept at it even after their presidents(or ceo) sudden death :(

This Game was so incredible and got over shadowed by GT series. Back then this game was doing what GT5 is trying to do in their game. Lemans had volumetric lighting, day to night/night to day transitions for the lemans courses. it had 24 cars at one time in races. Also,like GRID/PGR3-4/FORZA-no crap cars like the GT-series. Only high end racing cars. Screw GT overated SONY racing shyt.

Wow an actual 24 hour race, not a sped up "24 hours" like GRID's and it has save points via pitstops while racing. That's a feature Gran Turismo and Forza should copy.
Despite most of America not caring for Le Mans, there are American car companies that do join it like Chevrolet. Btw, if you pronounce "Le Mans" the way you do while in Europe they would either correct or laugh at you.

Awesome game! I have the a dreamcast and it is much more fun and "alive" than any console I have ever tried. MSR, F355 and Le Mans 24 Hr. are some of the best games I know. For simulation still nothing beats F355.

also if youre tinking about the GT4 graphics, about it refflection effects, everithing, let me say that no racing game pushed the Dreamcast, seriosly most people say that MSR looks good and this and that, well that game dont pushed 15% of the Dreamcast power, the only game that pushed a litele by te Dreamcast was test Drive le Mans, pushed 5 Milion Poligons in game in the Dreamcast!

the Dreamast polygons could be pushed to 7 milion and its maximun but this i pushing very hard, it could do 9 milion polygons in game, ofcorse this is much hard to do so most of its games would only run at 7 milion a litle more and thats it, well 7 milion poligons may not sound good, but trust me its emough to run games like Driv3r, Driver Parallel Line, GTA's, God of war and some more, even GT4, also the Dreamcast has better textures then ps2 so thats it

Le Mans 24 Hours (Ultimate Endurance Challenge) as we know it in the UK was one racer that was way, way a head of it's time. The technical wizardry that was put into this has not change much with the evolution we see from driving games of today. Awesome game, very nice if you can display it via the VGA adapter! :)

I <3 my dreamcast, and this game rocks All games are free just download a disk image and burn it using Padus DiskJuggler. No hacking or modding of the Dreamcast required. if u like free games that also happen to be great games, I would highly suggest picking up a Dreamcast now.

the Dreamcast i more powerfull the the ps2 even though there is no very big difrence, the dreamcast can run a special ting caled Tile Based Rendering that makes the Dreamcast only render what youre seing, it kind plays with the polygons, with that you can have better results then in any ps2 game, also the dreamcast has better textures and less jaggyes then ps2 also better resolution, the Dreamcast is superior in effects to, like refletions, light and mostly everithing

Because it is, if you analise the facts, also it only leaved 2 years no one pushed it to its maximun! also see this, all games that got ported from Dreamcast to ps2 looks worce on ps2, less textures, more jaggyes, al that, the had more Polygon capabilities, the maximun poligons the ps2 pushed is 10 milion in game, no game surpased that, on the Dreamcast in 2 years the maximun they pushed was 5 milion, But analise that the ps2 lived 9 years the Dreamcast only 2!

the graphics on ps2 , only looks like they are cool because of the anisotropic and antialiasing filtering , most of it's games run at incredible low resolution , like ssx 3 for example , that if i remember , it runs in something like 512x448 , and almost all the dreamcast games run in 640x480 and at 60fps
