That was a heads-up play by #3 of the purple team! Yes the play should have been dead, but (like the video title says) always hand the ball to the ref on plays like this! Even with the play being dead, the refs couldn't see where the ball was (as they were trying to clear the pile and missed #35 in the white squeezing out with the ball), so they had to rule based on whomever had possession of the ball when they were able to clear the pile, which was #3 on the purple team. Simple as that.

As a football official myself, the fundamental mistake was the side-official should have STAYED WIDE and let the other officials dig for the ball. The recovering player was BEHIND the covering official when he "lost possession." Idiot officials for sure.

Yes guys, of course the whistle was blown, but the refs never got to see the player on white uniform with the ball, nobody did except himself. They know the rules, they are not deaf, they're only stupid.

but seriously, what a bad kid onside kick recovery gets fucked because some bad kid is too stupid to give the ref the ball, the ref is trying to see wear the ball is in the pile, not some dumbfuck running around with it

How are the refs idiots if none of them saw it?, and the video shows how that is possible.God I get sick of people whining about refs. We have the ultimate camera angle and there isn't any kind of review. Gain some perspective people. Fluke play, and thus is life.

i would have tackled the reff if i was on the white team. he blew the whistle and cleared the pile but i guess didnt know he stopped the play so he gave the blue team the ball. wow

true... play stops there... but who do you give the ball to? on video tape it's easy to see who had it... but was any ref looking when the guy comes out of the pile? no... i mean... the guy should celebrate... wiht the ball in his hands... it's unfortunate the ref isn't looking but it's the guys fault... i could see the refs thinking the ball just squirted out of the pile... simply thinking no one had had it... and the blue team recovered a loose ball

exactly... i dont even know why the guy jumped out of the pile, how were the refs supposd to spot it? dont they just stay down in the nfl until the refs pull everybody off? they made the right call from what they saw, apparently
