Thank for that! Jeff admits freely to lifting the basis of that groove from Bernard Purdie, who used in on "Home at Last" and "Babylon Sisters". Purdie breaks down the "Purdie Shuffle" in a video here on YT as well. The toughest part for me is working the hi-hat on the beat, which Purdie does pretty much all the way through the song, but I save for the chorus because for me it takes a lot of concentration and effort.
that is awesome....your ghost notes almost mirror what Jeff Porcaro plays in "Lido shuffle". My band decided to play that song a couple of months ago and I spent, literally, over 30 hours trying to seemlessly incorporate that drum part (with the fu_k up ghost notes) into the song (based, coincidentally enough, on a guy on youtube who broke down the "lido shuffle" into it's most basic terms).
Suffice it to say, you have that very unorthodox shuffle down for this song.......sounds great!!!
@brendanvdrums Yes, but the only major difference is that on this song a grace-noted FULL-time shuffle is played (downbeat on both 2 & 4) - while a grace-noted HALF-time shuffle is played on Rosanna (downbeat only on 4)...Jim Hodder played it on the original version - and I don't recall him being given credit like Porcaro and Bonham (on "Fool in the Rain") were given (so let's give him credit now)...also, I think Porcaro played the grace-noted full-time shuffle on "Lido Shuffle"...
Thanks for the compliment! I'm not sure this is the reason, but my training (years ago mind you) was based on a mastery of the rudiments. There's a lot of double sticking and right-hand-left-hand coordination in this grove and the fills. If you're having trouble, I would suggest working on your rudiments.
I really liked your playing, wish was on acoustic drums, but well done, thanks for the comment on my djembe vid. I was playing very fast, but you said there was no technique??? You as a drummer should here the rudimentry elements in there, It wasn't supposed to be authentic all African...thing, it was in rhythm though.. and tight. you can't deny that. Anyways, dig your vids thanks.
Very skillful drumming and right on it and in the pocket. Good sound out of those VDrums.
