  • Hey E, quick question were the Marvel and DC comics that you saw in Europe printed in english or were they translated?

  • I saw both versions. The french lanuage ones were most compilations of existing material. For instance, a friend of mine bought an issue that had the entire 'Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk' miniseries in it. I mentioned how it was funny that the French were getting the whole story in one shot, while we had to wait almost 3 years for it to finally get finished. (The book was in french, btw.)

  • Its easy to get last years books for a buck.

Just go on ebay, or conventions. I picked up batman RIP, 52, endangered species, mesiah complex, all for less than a dollar a book!

  • That would be nice if they could sell reprints for a dollar! I would be buying alot of DC, Image, and Dynamite comics.

  • right now here in peru they are publishing one more day (spiderman) and astonishing x-men (last wednesday they published #17). apparently next year we are getting the ultimates vol.1 :)

    LOng Live the comic!

btw they cost around 1$ because they sell them with a newspaper (you buy the newspaper and with 1$ more you get the comic) :D

  • hahaha otro peruano aqui, que chevere.y mas chevere aun que veas CCW.

  • I live in England and I don't have any close friends who read 2000AD, its all Marvel and DC.

  • Thats really sad because 2000ad is putting out some magnificent stories at the moment.

  • Im glad you mentioned my comment. Im the guy form peru btw and yes u are right the licensers are european and all the agreements are done directly with them. I mean the editor in chief of the newspaper which sell the comicbooks went toSDCC this year and talked with many artists and independent publishers, he asked jim lee to sign copies of the peruvian HUSH edition, he was surprised because he had no idea of a new edition being printed.

  • i still say you should just upload the vids un edited elliot.

  • So what do you guys think of Image United? I'm not going to pick it up, but I'd like to know what you guys think of it.

    PS

Thanks for the heads up on Muppets Peter Pan. Looks pretty sweet.

  • I haven't read any of it, Mitiators. Not a big fan of the Image superhero books outside of Invincible. Glad you're enjoying Muppets Peter Pan! Grace Randolph is a great gal and I'd like to see her become a big name in the industry!

  • Add to that the old masters like Moebius, Druillet, Bilal, Caza et al just don't put out work any more and a lot of the younger artists from france, spain and italy who would have taken on their mantle now work for marvel or dc.

not that thats a bad thing for american comics, far from it, but it is rather a pity that the spirit of independance and difference that european comics had is diminishing.

Although sales are still way higher than in america which is kind of ironic

  • Where the American Comics in Paris $1 more than they are in America?

  • The American reprint stuff was comparable in price. The new stuff was priced in Euros, which was a bit more expensive. The albums, which were oversized, hardcover editions, were around 10 euros each which comes out to around $15 american.

  • Thanks, for filling me in. I was curious since me living in Canada, to us $3.99 is comparable to $2.99 in the U.S. since were always charged a buck over.

  • its prety cool. but ur sound is a bit off

  • Yeah, I'm still having issues with my video software. Argh!

    Thanks for commenting, btw!

  • no prob. keep coming out with good ones and i'll stay sub'd

  • I'm glad to hear you had a good time in paris E, the Album shops are fantastic. Just a little misconception you might have about European artists, they would draw maybe 45-100 pages a year so thats one reason why they look so polished.

Parts of american culture like westerns and jerry lewis has always been big in france but in the last 10 years globalisation and corporate marketing has really deluged europe and American films, tv and comic books are starting to crowd out home grown stuff

  • Ahhhh...good point there locus. Thanks for the tidbit.

  • Happy Thanksgiving you guys! I would also love to see European comics come to America. Like Japanese manga, I love it! Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, etc. Naruto is one of my fav comics, if not my fav comic. So if European comics are as good as Japanese manga I'm all for it.

  • The licensees in Peru will charge what the market in peru can take, people there can't pay as much as americans.

In october DC had 12 of the top 25 books and the gap between DC and Marvel is tiny now, this time last year there was a 10% gap.

Overall year on year sales are down, sales on 3.99 books are down and theres a resentment against marvel out there now

  • not so much as they can't as much as they won't ... XD

  • Album Vendor? You don't even know what you're getting!

What do they call a quarter pounder?

  • LOL! Good one AS. Just gotta luv them Pulp Fiction references!

    Thanks for commenting!
