Wynton Kelly was one of the few pianists who remained creative at high tempo's. His lines bounced from the keyboard like pingping balls. That's why Cannonball wanted him so deperately for his quintet around 1960, but he remained with Miles.
I've got an astonishing LP called 'Dizzy Atmosphere' with a.o. Lee Morgan (trumpet) and Billy Mitchell (tenor sax). They play a flashing blues called 'Dishwater' and Wynton manages to set the pace for everyone, including Lee Morgan at his peak.
Anyone know what the first excerpt is from? sounds like Paul Chambers on bass

yeah, it is pretty widely held that Wynton Kelly is one of the most swingin' pianists of all time [to me the swingingest].
he is one of my favorite soloists of all since his solos never give the impression that he is simply playing ntellectually or just unloading chops.
