She reminds me of Janet Jackson and Chaka Khan. She should have completed a bachelor's degree in music education. She certainly did not exactly belong in the music industry, but in a good music education program helping young talented kinds to be as good as she was.

I was suprised to hear that Vesta would often sing backstage for Chaka Khan back in the day when she was so out of it, they would turn the mike off for Chaka and Vesta would do the show. Once Chaka fell down while on stage and Vesta did not know it and kept on singiing. Her voice was so strong, reminds me of Phyllis Hyam - both talented ladies gone too soon.

Man I miss the old skool music days..even though as a producer and songwriter myself I am somewhat biased. I miss good chord transitions, background vocals, music that supports the theme and feel of the lyrics..hmm..has anyone else noticed that music made in these last 2-3 years is a lot like the disco craze of the 70's. And yes I do happen to love disco. Philly soul made it and hip-hop is still keeping it going. Think about it, all these new songs sound like one big Studio 54 mash up.

@marcusrob02 : Popmusic has been awful since the advent of Simon Cowell's "talent" shows. They spawn only forgettable industrialized drivel. Luckily the countermovement is strong: lots of good singer-songwriters emerge (not from the USA though!) such as Kate Nash, Duffy, Adele etc who show that creativity is not quite dead yet.
Watching her Unsung episode introduced me to Vesta. And it made me appreciate her and her music.

Vesta Williams is the one who should play Etta James, should they make a movie about Etta. That poor excuse that Beyoncé did in "Cadillac Records" is just so laughable. And I even had that idea back in 1988 when Etta came back at the age of 50 with her album, "The Seven Year Itch." But, noooooo... Beyoncé! I'm shrrrrrr!

Man I miss the old skool music days..even though as a producer and songwriter myself I am somewhat biased. I miss good chord transitions, background vocals, music that supports the theme and feel of the lyrics..hmm..has anyone else noticed that music made in these last 2-3 years is a lot like the disco craze of the 70's. And yes I do happen to love disco. Philly soul made it and hip-hop is still keeping it going. Think about it, all these new songs sound like one big Studio 54 mash up.

This song came out the year I was born.. My mom actually gave me a lot of cassettes and records that she used to listen to when she was pregnant with me. She said she used to play this song and put the headphones on my belly so I could listen to it. LOL... Interesting to finally see this video though.. My mom used to love Vesta Williams

This is one of my favourite 80 classics,the mistery in the sound captivates you from first listen and her vocals are awesome.THis songs proves you can produce a pop song and actually be good music.But you need to be a musician to recordthis and todays music is recorded by Djs,so called"producers" copy n pasters...everything but real musicians. LOL I love the 80s soul singers and ROOT for them ANYTIME they put music out. 2009 was HORRIBLE, in terms of the ACTS that people go "ga ga" over ...YES, I was referring to (talentLESS) ACTS like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Susan Boyle (she's NOT GOOD AT ALL), etc. BTW, did anybody kno about the old little feud between Vesta and Regina Belle? It started from a comment Vesta made on Video Soul way back in the 80s I think lol. I'd LOVE to see those two duet!

@marcusrob02 : Popmusic has been awful since the advent of Simon Cowell's "talent" shows. They spawn only forgettable industrialized drivel. Luckily the countermovement is strong: lots of good singer-songwriters emerge (not from the USA though!) such as Kate Nash, Duffy, Adele etc who show that creativity is not quite dead yet.
