Yeah, you can really get an infection from pretty much anywhere. Though the chances are _very_ slim. My friend got an infection in his finger from his shower (cut the tip of his finger in some sharp edge) and ended up having almost 1/4 of his finger amputated. Still, those procedures (tonguesplittings etc) are relatively safe when done by a professional who know what he's doing and has educated himself properly.

Awesome split. People, the tongue is a vascular area, and tongue splits bleed. Oftentimes they bleed a LOT, and this one isn't bad. They cauterized as they split it, cutting down on bleeding and lowering the risk of infection. Good job.
