  • calm down ppl u see the BASIC word in the title????means basic for rookies...i know u are all pros but there r some rookies out there LOL

  • Marty, I love ya man but I can not agree with your advice to blindly practice in front of the TV. Yes, it improves muscle memory but it also gets us used to just going through the motions and that comes through in your playing. Oh well, keep it up Marty!

  • the Let It Be solo covers the entire pentatonic run. its too easy to do.

  • for the extended scale, the best song to ever learn that on is the Let It Be solo........covers the whole thing. and it is simple too memorize, and it is simply the pentatonic. It almost cheating!!!!!! So easy.(Marty rocks!!!!!!!)

  • you are the greatest guitar teacher ever

  • thats for that advice marty it really helps :) keep playing and posting :)

  • im in love with pentatonic scales :D

  • awesome marty thanks

  • Great teacher!

  • Marty i have a question for you how long do u play guitar?

  • Amazing marty! Wich guitar is that? I want one like that too

  • @LemonicHQ Gibson Les Paul Traditional?..

  • One of the best explanations on how to begin soloing. I get frustrated learning ALL the scales, and he explains that concentrating on one scale and extending that one scale is the best way. The hardest part of soling is making a scale sound musical, instead of a boring repetitive scale lesson.

  • lordzero545 if you don't know what it is you're not ready for this advice.

  • lordzero545 if you don't know what it it you're not ready for this advice.

  • What is the A minor pentatonic scale? I mean how do you play it? He doesn't tell you how. :O

  • Its like your Jonah Hill or something....

  • This is wicked helpful. Thank you. This did make a huge difference.

  • I Love your guitar man! <3 give it to me! haha! :-]

  • plz i would really agree that u should make a lesson for the expendables bowl for two. thumbs up if u agree

  • it´s such a cool feeling after 2 years beeing schwartz´d to recognize some of thoses tasty lil licks from previous lessons ... like one of marty´s favorite one around 13:17....thanks marty for keeping up such a high level of education/entertainment and all you bring in over the internet .... danke schöööön from germany

  • That is just what I've been looking for. Thanks. I knew both of those, but not how to put them together. I kept trying to start the extension at the root and knew something was wrong but couldn't figure it out. Got to get off the dope.

  • Ok Marty says always slide on the ring finger. Can do, but would like to know why? I know if you slide on the first finger low E string, you can get a nice sliding affect easily if you want it. Now bending on the ring finger seems to be a cool thing. Been playing with bending any of the ring finger notes just to see the effect. Gives it more blues feel and less like just notes.

  • im soooo happy!! i feel like a realy good guitar player now! thanks marty

  • nice tie!!!

  • Marty, can u do a lesson about runs, blues runs... and how to use 'em?

  • 1 dislike is for the person who dosent know there scale

  • nice video bro

  • Awesome lesson Marty, thanks a lot!

  • @NickOHification Same thing up and down the neck sure. You know what the guy meant when he asked there's no reason to try and be smug about it. If you're gonna reply to him just give him the info don't just leave him hanging with that.

  • i agree with flashpadxxx ! WE'D LIKE TO SEE SOME INTERMEDIATE LESSONS!!!

  • great lesson man!

  • really cool to see how it all fits together. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the great video, it was very helpful.

  • This is sooo nice thank you very much !

  • is that a 4x10 deville?

  • Really great lesson!!!

  • you sound like you got the flew marty! take care!

  • @Pollutens FLU*

  • u rock!!

  • The finale really amazed me, just perfection, knowing where the notes are on the fretboard without even looking at the left hand, from what I could tell anyways :p Maybe glanced down, but seemed majority just knew where notes were, and played perfect, no dead notes, heh

  • @NickOHification no there is major aswell....

  • Hey Marty I'm getting decent at soloing but I don't have a lot of progressions I can solo over using my loop station. Could you make a video showing some different blues/rock type progressions? You're a great teacher man keep up the good work.

  • Comment removed

  • 1 person did'nt watch the finale.

  • Great video Marty, and thanks for the Backing Tracks. The B minor is awesome to jam to. Maybe you could throw in a lesson on how to change scales throughout this backing track, and others. I think a lot of beginners get stuck in the same "Box".

it would be great to move patterns through the song.

Thankyou for all the great work.

  • @NickOHification No there are many more.

  • Jamtracks are great. I love that slow a minor. It made my day.

  • Lets get Marty some halls for his throat

  • ah dude great guitar. I have the same one :p I love the traditional plus's sound.

  • @NickOHification WRONG SIR! hahaha there are really 5!

  • Marty, i ve learned a lot of things about chords from trying to play songs that i like.

It would be great if you did some scales lessons combined with famous solos.

I mean to try to learn a scale from a solo that is on the scale.Love you man!!!

  • @NickOHification There are technically hundreds dude, "lmao"

  • @NickOHification There are more

  • Hi Marty try some whiskey and honey with a little lemon juice for your cold oh and a Lemsip, usually does the trick ;-)

  • Good to begin soloing.!

  • what happened to your voice? better quality sound? sounds different.

  • this truly helps. thanks so much man. u are very appreciated

  • Why only beginners lesson all the time.We need some intermediate lesson.

  • @flashpadxxx How can i give you like a hundred thumbs up?

  • @flashpadxxx maybe you need to buy the dvd lesson don´t you think??'

  • @nakin01 Yes indeed. Marty needs to eat, just like the rest of us.

  • @flashpadxxx If you need the intermediate lesson, you don't need the lesson. You just need to learn to look at what you know already in different ways. I know these as 3 of the 5 pentatonic shapes. Sweep pick a scale form!

  • @flashpadxxx

    if you're intermediate; teach yourself..

  • @flashpadxxx becuase begins buy all the DVDs and books, their is a larger market for guitar noobs

  • @flashpadxxx he has plenty of intermediate and advanced lessons on his site, well worth the money, Marty is the best on net

  • @flashpadxxx

Because most people who sit around on youtube suck at guitar

  • @flashpadxxx Yeah, well if you consider yourself intermediate then you should know the basics of everything u just need to practice more and not the same thing throw in a bunch of random other stuff

  • And on top of Major and Minor Pentatonics there is a pentatonic scale for each of the Modes, and all of those in several positions.

    Big Ron

  • Thanks Marty..

  • Hey Mr. LMAO there is a minor and major pentatonic scale, in every key, and on the guitar in several different places for each one. Go ahead and LYAO - expert.

    Big Ron

  • What's wrong with your voice?

  • @BonjourRich getting over a cold.

  • You should make a separate channel and do some more intermediate/advanced stuff!

  • thank you marty...

  • Damn that Gibson sounds good!

  • @Magnawulf its not the gibson its marty lol

  • @NickOHification

    there's more than one.

  • Is he kinda ill or something?

  • A very good lesson.

Damn, you make things look so easy.

  • Les Paul Gibson !!!!!!!!

  • Demrit For A Glossy look On A Guitar! ... :( -- U get alot of Finger Marks and The Binding Turns Yellow Cause of Weathring..SAD! Really Soon! Gotta Polish it Most Of the Time!

  • can you teach us how to get your les paul guitar ??????????? i´m jalous marty and thankful for the lesson too

  • @NickOHification yes there is just one but in 5 forms so it will be nice to know ....i can give u the tabs but if u look for martys videos u will find all the pentatonics forms :D

  • @NickOHification there's 2 lols pentatonic and pentatonic blues

  • thanks marty learn alot!

  • When I started playing and getting into scales I learned the C Major scale first. After that with practice, the other scales come easy. Great lesson on the Pentatonic, Marty.

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhh...... sorry im dribbling over your gibson

  • Very useful technique! it does makes sense a lot!

  • are you sick marty??get well soon :)

  • @NickOHification THERE ARE DIFFERENT POSITIONS OR "BOXES" WHICH HAVE DIFFERENT SHAPES THAT IS OBVIOUSLY WHAT HE MEANT AND YOU OBVIOUSLY COULDN'T UNDER STAND THAT

  • @NickOHification If its the same thing then why do they call it minor and major.

i get that it has the same notes in some relative keys, but its no argument saying theres only one pentatonic scale.

we learn them as different scales and thats how it is.

next to that, theres shit like egyptian and japanese scales.

  • @MiniDaab The difference to major and minor pentatonic for the standard

1-4,1-3,1-3,1-3,1-4,1-4 is where the root of the scale is on the E strings.

when the root is on the pointer finger it is the major pentatonic, but if you shift it to where the root is on the pinky finger it is minor. so every pentatonic is the Major of one scale and the minor of another.

there are multiple patterns to the same scale to play it in different positions on the neck, the extension uses parts of the others

  • @NickOHification major pentatonic, minor pentatonic, melodic minor pentatonic... more than one, buddy...

  • this was amazing marty please do more of these vids! this helped me a ton. oyu've transformed me into a blues master.

  • i would love to see a few lwssons on major scales and modes

  • I love your videos but you've done the same video for a year gotta get more variation

  • i know this is way out of your normal style but any possibilties you could do some lessons on the scales used in modern heavy metal? or some tips for building up speed for shredding? im sure im not the only one who plays music like : Bullet for my valentine, All that remains, Avenged sevenfold, megadeath etc.? would be GREATLY apreciated. maybe some lessons on sweep picking to :O that would be amazing!

  • @NickOHification but there are many positions so....

  • @NickOHification major and minor?

  • @NickOHification You're right the A minor pentatonic scale is the only scale out there. No such thing as a C major pentatonic etc.

  • @Fickes

Look at this video by Marty

Guitar Lesson - Lead Guitar Solos - Major Pentatonic Scale - Relative Minor/Major Concept .. Pinky on root instead of forefinger.

  • I think Marty needs to make an update video of all his gear. You sure have acquired some good stuff in the past year or so. New guitars, amp, effects, custom t-shirts....

  • I have learned so much from you Marty ,hope you are getting rich because you deserve it.
